He went to Stock Island (Key West) to help a friend move their boat to Marathon. It is possible that he took a Key West bus from Marathon to Stock Island. The boat ran aground early on June 17. People at the marina say his friend has gone to New York, but no one knew where Paul went. He has not answered his phone, responded to FaceBook messages or accessed his bank accounts since he went missing.

Detectives Still Trying To Find Missing Man One Year Later

    Paul Thomas Murray

Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes detectives are still looking for a man who went missing in June of last year.

48 year old Paul Thomas Murray lived on board a boat in Boot Key Harbor. Detectives say he was last seen on June 16th by friends.

Investigations indicate he was planning to help a man named Donny Vanaria move his sailboat from Robbie’s Marina on Stock Island to Boot Key Harbor in Marathon. The sailboat, called the “Hornet” was found grounded on some rocks near Robbie’s Marine. No one was on board. Witnesses say Vanaria left town shortly afterward. Detectives have not been able to locate Vanaria to interview him about what may have happened.

Since that time, detectives say they have not found anyone who has seen or heard from Murray. There has been no activity on his bank accounts or social media accounts. He has not been in contact with any family members, including his children.

Anyone who knows anything about Murray that might help find him, or find out what happened to him, should contact Major Crimes Detective Bob Dosh at 305-289-2410.

We are looking for Paul Murray -aboard Sailboat Double Feature (Boot Key Harbor west of Boot Key bridge)

He went to Stock Island (Key West) to help a friend (Donnie) move his boat to Marathon. They ran aground, got in the dinghy and safely made it to shore on June 16. Folks at Robbie’s Full Service Marina at Stock Island tell me that Donnie has gone to New York but no one knows where Paul is. He isn’t answering phone (likely destroyed in boat mishap), isn’t responding to texts or FB messages and hasn’t accessed his bank accounts in last 2 weeks! We have contacted his friends and family but no one has had any contact.
If anyone has any ideas I can check out or knows anything, please let me know ASAP. I am Paul’s dad.
Bill Murray and can be reached at 248.974.8218

    4/3/2016 Larry,
Attached is a corrected version of the Monroe County’s press release about my son’s disappearance:
Family, detectives looking for information about missing man
Sheriff’s detectives are hoping to help locate a Marathon man whose family and friends say they have not seen nor heard from him since June 16th.
48 year old Paul Thomas Murray, who lives on a boat in Boot Key Harbor in Marathon, told family members he was going to help a friend move a sailboat from Robbie’s Marina on Stock Island to Boot Key Harbor on June 16th. A short time after that, the sailboat he was supposed to help move, called the “Hornet” was located, grounded on some rocks a short distance away from Robbie’s Marina. No one was on board.
A friend of Murray spoke with Murray’s father. He said the owner of the boat, Donny Vanaria, and Murray were going to move the boat together on the 16th. A man whose nickname is “Red” reportedly told Murray’s father that he woke up at 4 a.m. on the 17th and the boat was aground; he said neither Murray nor Vanaria were on board, but Vanaria returned by dinghy and asked Red if he would take care of his dog because he had to leave town.
Since that time, there have been no reports from anyone who has seen or heard from Murray and his family says there has been no activity on his credit/debit card or cell phone.
Anyone who knows anything about Murray that might help find him, or find out what happened to him, should contact Major Crimes Detective Dawn Agusto at 305-289-2410.

    7/15/2016
There has not been any progress in the investigation. The MCSO Major Crimes Unit is trying to investigate but there is a lack of information at this point.
We think that Paul left Boot Key Harbor on 6-16 to help a man deliver a boat (S/V Hornet)from Stock island to Marathon. They left that evening and the next morning the boat was crashed on the rocks outside Robbie’s Full Service Marine. (it is still there on its side full of water – I will forward a pic). While the owner made it to shore and then left town immediately, Paul was not seen again.
The sheriff’s office is looking for persons who have specific information about Paul arriving at Stock Island and boarding the boat. Right now, no one has come forward to help us figure out what actually happened.
Thanks for your interest and help.
    Bill Murray

    July 06, 2016 09:27 AM

Paul Thomas Murray, 48, has not been heard from since, agency information officer Becky Herrin said Tuesday.

Murray traveled to Stock Island to help a friend, identified as Donny Vanaria, and a third man move the sailboat Hornet north to Boot Key Harbor. Paul Thomas Murray left home to help move a sailboat on June 16.

    The 48-year-old never came back.

More than two weeks later, Monroe County sheriff’s detectives are still looking for the Marathon resident.

On June 16, Murray, who lives on a boat in Boot Key Harbor in Marathon, told his family he was going to help move a sailboat from Robbie’s Marina on Stock Island to Boot Key Harbor.

The sailboat, named Hornet, was found grounded on some rocks a short distance from the marina without anyone on board.

Murray’s father told a friend of Murray’s that Murray, the boat’s owner, Donny Vanaria, and a man known as “Red” planned to move the boat together. Red reportedly told Murray’s father he saw the boat aground when he woke up the next day at 4 a.m.

Vanaria later returned on a dingy and asked Red to take care of his dog because he had to leave town.

Since then, no one has heard from Murray, and his phone, credit and debit cards have not been used.

Anyone with any information about Murray is asked to contact the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office at 305-289-2410.

Missing man’s family: Someone has info

The family of a Boot Key Harbor man missing for almost two years remains hopeful that someone in the Florida Keys has information that may resolve the mystery of their loved one’s disappearance.

Paul “Paulie” Thomas Murray, 49, who has been missing since June 2016, reportedly was last seen at Robbie’s Marina on Stock Island.

“There’s got to be someone who knows something that can help us find him,” Chris Murray, his brother, told the Free Press last week. “I know it’s not a crime to be missing, but this isn’t like Paul. He always calls. He checked in with my mom often. He called all the time, just to say ‘hey.’”

Paul Murray is the father of four children: two older girls and two younger boys. He had been living on the 34-foot Irwin Aft Cabin sailboat, Double Feature, moored in Boot Key Harbor since 2014.

He moved to the Keys from Naples but is originally from Michigan. He has knowledge as an architectural draftsman. He’s worked in the construction and carpentry trades as a tree trimmer. He is an avid sailor and has previously restored sailboats.

“There hasn’t been much progress on finding Paul or finding out what’s happened to him. If something bad happened, there’s a violent guy out there still. We may not find him alive, but at least we can find out what happened.”

Paula Murray-Lhota, their mother, longs for a resolution on Paul’s disappearance.

“I want my son to come home,” she told the Free Press. “There are no words intense enough to express how much he is missed. We lived together for many years. He is everywhere in my home, always in my thoughts. Not knowing where he is just eats at me.”
