State Authorities Asked To Join Hunt for Woman

    Published: Sat, June 30, 1990 12:00 AM

CARRIER State authorities are being asked to join in the search for a Garfield County woman missing the past two months.

Garfield County Sheriff Bob Cates said Friday that he has sent a letter asking the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to help find Penney Peeler.

"A lot of evidence has led ... out of the county and out of the state," Cates said. The 37-year-old Peeler, described as 5-feet-4 inches tall with long blond hair and blue eyes, has not been heard from since April 25, said her mother, Margaret Carloss of Prairie Grove, Ark.

Carloss said her daughter was upset the last time she talked on the telephone. Carloss said her daughter's husband, Glenn "Bud" Peeler Jr., has said she left to visit friends in Arkansas and California.

He told her Peeler left during a trip the two made to Albuquerque, N.M., Carloss said. But Carloss said her daughter told her the trip was canceled.

"As far as I know, she disappeared the day after I talked with her," Carloss said. "There's not been a word."

    2-Year Hunt for Woman Resumes
    Michael McNutt
    Published: Thu, June 18, 1992 12:00 AM

While authorities continue to search for any trace of a Garfield County woman missing for more than two years, the woman's mother said Wednesday she believes her daughter was murdered. Margaret Carloss now hopes her daughter's body can be found so she will know of her fate.

Carloss, of Prairie Grove, Ark., said her daughter, Penny Peeler, was upset the last time she talked to her by telephone in April 1990.

"I have no hope that she's alive at all," Carloss said. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation brought in trained dogs Tuesday to search ponds and dumps in a rural area around Enid in the latest attempt to find her body.

Deputies with the Garfield County sheriff's office helped by searching for evidence in the Carrier house where Peeler had lived. "We have some evidence, and it's being analyzed right now," OSBI agent Frank Bourland said Wednesday.

He said there is a suspect, but the case would be hard to prosecute because Peeler's body never has been found. Carloss said her daughter, 37 at the time of her disappearance, had been married for 16 years.

Penny Peeler was described as 5 feet, 4 inches tall, with long blond hair and blue eyes. She last was heard from on April 25, 1990. Bourland said people with information about the case should call the OSBI at (405) 848-6724. BIOG: NAME:

I think it's a story we have heard too many times of it being "The Husband". She told her mother that "Trip" was cancelled. But the next day She was conveniently gone according to him as an explanation. And not heard from since 1990.
