So many twists and turns in this case! First Chief Couch portrayed the info leak involving DelTondo as a "clerical error," then he is placed on administrative leave, and now we find out why.

I wonder if this somehow relates back to DelTondo's murder. She has been described as a person whom others, including students, could confide in. I wonder how long the inappropriate communications from Couch been going on with LW. Did LW initially confide to DelTondo about it? Was the report that was leaked months earlier actually faked to discredit DelTondo and try to keep her quiet?

Acting Pa. police chief removes department from teacher homicide probe
By Jonathan D. Silver and Shelly Bradbury / Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Beaver County District Attorney David Lozier, who said Thursday that his office’s detectives have been and continue to be in charge of the homicide investigation, commended the two Aliquippa detectives who had been working the case.

He said the decision to remove the Aliqiuppa Police Department from the probe was Chief Sealock’s, did not involve input from the DA, and was an internal matter.
As for the status of the DelTondo case, Mr. Lozier said, “I’m comfortable where we are in the investigation, but we have to wait for forensics to verify certain facts before we make an arrest ...The electronic, the DNA, fingerprints — all that takes weeks, sometimes months.”

Asked if investigators had a suspect, he said, “I can’t say that.”

Wrong guy? Mysterious witness letter could shift focus in Rachael DelTondo murder investigation
    by Ellen Killoran
    June 13, 2018

Sheldon Jeter appears to have been a primary focus of the investigation. But a letter sent to an inmate at the Beaver County Jail, written by someone who claims to have witnessed the shooting, reportedly implicates someone else in the killing.

Jeter’s lawyer Mike Santicola told WPXI that the letter takes the focus off his client. CrimeOnline has received information that supports this claim, though the letter has not been authenticated.

Exclusive: Man Admits To Faking DelTondo Murder Letter That Was A Focus Of County Detectives
    By John Paul
    Aug 27, 2018

A former county inmate is boasting he got a “get out of jail free card” after faking a letter purportedly from an eyewitness to the unsolved Mother’s Day murder of Aliquippa resident Rachael DelTondo.

The Beaver County District Attorney’s office gave Wayne Cordes a sweet plea deal in his unrelated criminal case, and immunity regarding the letter, in exchange for Cordes telling detectives everything he knew about it. Cordes then told officials the letter was bogus.

He submitted to an FBI lie detector test earlier this month, which revealed he was telling the truth about the letter, according to Cordes and multiple courthouse sources. In fact, Cordes said, many of the details he was able to include in the letter were inadvertently provided to him by county detectives’ questioning.

The day of the sanctions hearing last month, the District Attorney’s Office agreed to the plea deal and reduced Cordes’ multiple felony assault and burglary charges to misdemeanor counts of simple assault and unlawful taking — he was let out of jail the following week.

In an exclusive interview with BeaverCountian.com yesterday, 21-year-old Cordes of Hopewell said he concocted the letter as a way to get the plea deal.

’48 Hours’ Probes Rachael DelTondo’s Unsolved Murder 1 Year After Her Death
    May 17, 2019

Just over a year ago, 33-year-old Rachael DelTondo was shot down at close range in the driveway of her parents’ Aliquippa home.

Her father was asleep by the side door when he awoke to gunfire.

“I miss her walking in that door. She was our life. She was our life,” he told “48 Hours” correspondent Erin Moriarty.

It’s one interview among many in Saturday night’s “48 Hours” special on the DelTondo murder.

    “It’s surprising. She’s a 33-year-old teacher. She was well-liked, so it’s a little bit of a surprise,” Moriarty told KDKA’s Andy Sheehan.

Some of the ongoing rumors have concerned the police themselves.

“As you know, too, that there have been a lot of problems with the police department, which has lead some people to even fear that this might have been a hit,” Moriarty said.

DelTondo told her parents that she was cooperating in an ongoing investigation by state police into alleged corruption in the Aliquippa Police Department and that she had received death threats.

“She was afraid of the police. Deathly afraid of police,” Lisa DelTondo, Rachael’s mother, said.

Investigators have also been looking into the possibility that it was someone close to her. Rachael’s ex-fiancee, Frank Catroppa, has always denied he had anything to do with Rachael’s death.

The Beaver County District Attorney insists that the murder was a crime of passion, and it was not about what Rachael knew, but someone she knew.

Lisa DelTondo tells “48 Hours” that 21-year-old Sheldon Jeter was “obsessed” and “in love” with her daughter.

Moriarty also spoke with Rachael’s friend, Lauren Watkins, who had dropped Rachael off just moments before she was gunned down.

Watkins says she saw her get to the door and “go for the screen” before she drove away.
