A body found inside the wall of a southern California apartment has been positively identified as that of a woman who disappeared more than six years ago.

Raven Joy Campbell, who was 31 at the time of her disappearance, was firstreported missing in July 2009 from her residence, the same apartment where her body was recovered a week ago at the Harbor Hills Housing Project in Lomita, California,NBC Los Angeles reports. The cause and manner of death have not yet been released.

The grisly discovery was prompted by an anonymous caller who contacted the Campbell family, saying Raven could be buried behind a wall of a closet in the complex, the family told the station. That prompted law enforcement to bring in cadaver dogs who located the remains inside the wall, sheriff's officials said.

Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.

Trial begins for man charged with killing woman, burying her under floor in Lomita apartment

A 46-year-old man admitted to killing his roommate and entombing her remains under the floor of their Lomita apartment in order to prevent his child from growing up without his mother, who is the true killer, his defense attorney argued Wednesday during his murder trial.

Randolph Garbutt’s trial in Inglewood Superior Court comes nearly a decade after Raven Joy Campbell vanished without a trace in 2009, and more than three years after her remains were discovered buried in a crawl space beneath the floor of a closet in Apartment 507 in the Harbor Hills housing project on Western Avenue.

Garbutt was arrested and charged with murder in February 2016, seven months after Campbell’s body was found.

Mistrial declared in murder case of woman beaten with hammer and buried under floor of Lomita apartment

A mistrial has been declared in the murder case against a man accused of beating his developmentally disabled roommate to death with a hammer and hiding her body under the floor of their Lomita apartment, where she remained missing for six years.

On Wednesday, Superior Court Judge Scott T. Millington declared a mistrial following the emergence of a report involving two witnesses that neither prosecutors nor the defense were aware of, said Ricardo Santiago, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Information on the nature of the report and its contents was not available and attorneys could not be reached to discuss it Monday.

The mistrial came two weeks after testimony was underway in Inglewood Superior Court. Attorneys will return Dec. 4 to discuss setting a date for a new trial.
