    Details of Disappearance:

Lamanna resided in Fresh Meadows, New York in 1994, and was studying nuclear medicine technology. She was found walking the streets of the New York City borough of Queens in an incoherent state on January 8, 1994 and was taken to Queens Center Psychiatric Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. Lamanna was taken to her sister's home in the 2500 block of Wesley Avenue in Ocean City, New Jersey after her discharge later that day, and they had dinner. She suddenly ran from the house at approximately 7:00 p.m. that evening. The outside temperature was below freezing. Lamanna was carrying her navy blue bathrobe with her at the time. Lamanna was last seen inside the Waterfront Bar in Somers Point, New Jersey at approximately 9:00 p.m. She has never been heard from again. Her bathrobe was discovered two blocks from the establishment shortly afterwards. A sheriff's department bloodhound traced Lamanna's scent between two homes on Central Avenue in Ocean City, but there was no other evidence of her at the scene. She may have hitchhiked out of the area.

There were sightings of Lamanna in New Jersey in May 1995 and in New York in December 1995. Between 2014 and 2016 there were reported sightings of a woman resembling Lamanna in Virginia and North Carolina; she was hitchhiking, had maps of several different states and told people she was looking for her family. The woman was located in Florida in January 2016; she was not Lamanna.

According to Lamanna's sister, she graduated from the University of Scranton and volunteered with the Peace Corps in Morocco. She dated an Afghan immigrant taxi driver for ten years and her mental breakdown the day of her disappearance was precipitated by the end of that relationship. Her sister stated Lamanna was suffering from anorexia as well as anxiety at the time.

Some agencies state that Lamanna vanished from Ocean City, New Jersey.

Search for long-missing Renee LaManna back to 'square one'
The pieces fell into place neatly — perhaps too neatly, in hindsight.

When she received a call last February about a disoriented homeless woman sighted in Virginia who identified herself as “Renee Leman” and confided she was looking for her family, Margaret LaManna, M.D., became convinced her sister finally had been found after more than two decades. Photos snapped of the drifter, a woman in her 50s wearing a bright blue cloak and oversized glasses, clinched it for her: It had to be Renee LaManna, the Scranton area native who vanished from Ocean City, New Jersey, in January 1994.

After a nearly yearlong search during which the woman’s photos were splashed across social media and plastered on fliers at truck stops and homeless shelters up and down the East Coast, the elusive drifter turned up in late January in Kissimmee, Florida. Police notified Dr. LaManna, who traveled from her home in West Palm Beach to meet her Jan. 24.

    It wasn’t Renee.

“We are heartbroken, and we are absolutely devastated,” Dr. LaManna said Monday. “We are back to square one.” In this case, “square one” is the Chambers Street subway station in New York City, where a utility worker spotted Renee looking at a photo of herself on a flier in December 1995, now the last credible sighting of the Abington Heights High School and University of Scranton graduate.

Updated PDF profile for Renee LaManna.

It includes the last known sightings known of Renee, in New Jersey and New York. The Federal Databases need to find Renee and how they work. And some information on the Roadblocks to finding Renee, and all missing adults who are either mentally ill, homeless or mentally challenged. Mainly, the Federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability act. Who in the name of ''patient privacy'' can restrict agencies from sharing critical information. There was also many 'hits' on Renee's NCIC. During 21 years, her family was never notified of those queries until now.

Sister not giving up in search for area woman missing 23 years

Dr. Margaret LaManna refuses to surrender in the search for her long-missing sister, Renee.

Eighteen months after the most promising lead to Renee’s whereabouts in decades evaporated in a disappointing case of mistaken identity, LaManna said she has never given up hope that her sister is still out there somewhere or that someone will recognize her and place a call to the toll-free 888-RENEE11 tipline.

“I’m praying for that phone call,” LaManna said. “She’s alive. I’ve always felt that.”

Renee, who was 35 when she disappeared, would be 59 now, her sister said.

Given her condition when she vanished, Renee may have no recollection of who she is or her past life, said LaManna, who also grew up in Scranton and now lives in West Palm Beach, Florida.

“That’s really the dilemma,” she said. “Renee may be among us with an assumed identify, and people may not be aware of the situation. She may not recall her name or her past.”

Ocean City woman still searching for sister who disappeared 24 years ago

After 24 years, Margaret LaManna has a simple message she wants to give to her long-lost sister.

“I love you,” Margaret LaManna said. “I want to tell her, ‘I love you.’”

On Monday, the anniversary of the day Renee went missing, Margaret LaManna met with Detective Marshall Craddick of the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office to talk about her sister’s disappearance and the relentless search for her.

“This is an active case for us,” he said. “We’re optimistic that she’s out there and will be found.”

Renee would now be 59 years old. She is about 5 feet 2 inches tall and is presumed to be about 125 pounds. She is white and has brown eyes. Pictures of her taken in the 1990s show a woman with long dark hair.

LaManna said she believes her sister may be suffering from depression and an anxiety disorder that can cause panic attacks, agitation and paranoia. She also believes her sister may not be using her real name, or that she could be suffering from amnesia.

She said her sister speaks five languages, plays cello, and has an interest in Middle Eastern culture. She is a former Catholic who converted to Islam and may wear a hijab or a burqa.

Advances in police technology, along with the advent of the internet and social media, have given both LaManna and Craddick new hope Renee will be found, even after 24 years.

“Everyone carries a cellphone these days,” LaManna said. “If someone sees Renee, they can take her picture and send it to me at 1-888-Renee11.”

If that picture, or any other new information leads investigators to finding Renee, there is a reward, she said.

“If you see someone that you think is Renee LaManna, take a picture on your phone and send it to me,” LaManna said. “That one photo could connect a missing person with her family.”

I'm happy to hear Renee's case is still active and that detectives are still hopeful that she is still out there. My heart aches for Renee, the image of her wandering the streets in below freezing weather wearing only a Afghan wedding outfit is so sad.
