Shantelle Hudson, Missing from Nevada since 1988.

The first photo is of Shantelle when she disappeared at just 16 years old. The second is an age-progressed photo of what Shantelle may have looked like at age 41 in 2013.

Shantelle was last seen in Dayton, Nevada after attending school on November 12th, 1988. There has been no activity on her social security number or accounts since that day and she has not been heard from Since. Shantelle's mother reported her missing not long after her last sighting, telling authorities her daughter had fallen in with friends her family did not approve of. Shantelle had moved to Dayton from Bishop, California, about two weeks prior to her disappearance. 2 witnesses reported seeing Shantelle at a street dance two days after she was reported missing. It's possible Shantelle met with foul play at the dance. She may have been seeing a boy at the time of her disappearance but if she was, police have not been able to identify him. Shantelle's father has been ruled out as a suspect. There were rumors that Shantelle was involved in drug culture before her disappearance but these rumors could not be substantiated by law enforcement.

In 1999, Shantelle's case was reopened after a family member asked for an update. It had not been oficially recorded that Shantelle was never found and the investigation had not been ongoing. No leads have been produced since this time.

    Shantelle remains missing.

If you have any information regarding the disappearance or whereabouts of Shantelle Hudson, please contact the Lyon County Sheriff's Office at 775-577-5023.
    DOB: 07/31/1972
Description: Shantelle was 5'5 and 120 pounds at the time of her disappearance. She has a scar on her ring finger and a large birthmark at the base of her spine. She wears eyeglasses.

Tribal Information: Shantelle is described as "Native American" and "American Indian." No specific tribal information has been provided.

Unsolved Homicides and Missing Persons Project

LAS VEGAS -- The Nevada Department of Public Safety and the Nevada Threat Analysis Center is looking for information on unsolved Nevada female homicides and missing person cases found in the rural counties.

According to DPS, for over a year, the NTAC's Terrorism Liaison Officer Program has collected information on unsolved rural female homicides and selected missing person cases. The cold cases include unsolved homicide and missing person cold cases that have occurred from 1972 to 2010. Unsolved male cold case homicide research is currently underway.

NTAC is looking for the public's help with leads about these cases. Nine of the cases involve victims who have not been identified.

The unsolved investigations come from several rural Nevada counties and do not include cold cases from Washoe or Clark County.

Anyone having possible leads regarding these cases is asked to contact Jim Lopey at (775) 687-0450 or email ntac@dps.state.nv.us.

    Profiled Cases:

    Shantelle Hudson

    • Last Contact: November 14, 1988
    • Location: Dayton, Nevada
    • Description: White Female, 16-years-old, 5 feet 5 inches tall, 120 pounds, brown hair, brown eyes.
    • Details: Shantelle Hudson disappeared after attending school in Dayton, but witnesses say she was seen at the Dayton Street Dance two days after she left home. Her mother did not approve of the friends, which caused some disagreements. The mother's DNA was taken in 2009. Hudson's Social Security number has been ran through numerous databases with no results. The victim has never contacted relatives, leading to the probability that she deceased. A possible match found by a murder victim in Phoenix, Arizona is being compared to Hudson's mother's DNA. Lyon County Officials theorize that the victim may have met with foul play at the street dance.

If you were in Dayton 23 years ago you might be able to help solve a cold case

    By Karren Rhodes
    March 16, 2011

She was a teenager attending high school and had only lived in Dayton for two weeks when she vanished. That was 23 years ago when the last time anyone recalls seeing the petite 16-year-old brunette during a street dance on or about Nov. 14, 1988.

One agency is reopening the missing person 'cold case' of Shantelle Hudson in hope that anyone who was in the Dayton area when Hudson was in town can think back and try to recall even the smallest detail that could lead to solving the case.

The Nevada Threat Analysis Center (NTAC) wants to find out what happened to Hudson. For more than a year the agency's Terrorism Liaison Officer Program has collected information from law enforcement officials concerning unsolved rural female homicides and selected missing person cases. They now have a master list to share with cold case investigators in other states.

Today they are asking for the public's help to develop potential leads that could solve Hudson's disappearance. She is described at the time of her disappearance as being a white female teen who stood 5 feet 5 inches tall with a slim build (120 pounds) and brown eyes and hair. She was born in 1972 and would be 39-years-old today.

Her mother, Lenan Garner, lived in Bishop, Calif., before moving to Dayton. She now lives in Redding, Calif.

Hudson was reported missing after attending school in Dayton, but witnesses claim she was seen at the street dance two days after she had left home. Authorities say her mother didn't approve of the friends that she was hanging around with. She has never contacted friends or relatives since the day she vanished.

Her mother was interviewed again last year and gave a DNA sample to determine if there could be a possible match to an unknown murder victim in Phoenix, Ariz.

The agency says there has been no activity related to Hudson's Social Security Number through the years.

Anyone who might have even the smallest detail about Hudson is asked to contact Jim Lopey at 775-687-0450 or e-mail atac@dps.state.nv.us regarding Lyon County case number 88-21-36. Potential leads will be forwarded to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office.

Cold cases: The unsolved homicides and disappearances of Lyon County

It’s been more than 30 years since 16-year-old Shantelle Hudson went missing from Dayton. She hasn’t been heard from since, but that doesn’t mean the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office has forgotten about her – or the seven other cold cases in the county.

Information on Lyon County’s cold cases is limited, but what the sheriff’s office knows is:

Shantelle Hudson (Photo: Courtesy Lyon County Sheriff's Office)

    Case #88-2136: Shantelle Hudson

    DOB: July 31, 1972

    Date missing: Nov. 12, 1988

    Suspected homicide

Shantelle Hudson is Lyon County’s oldest missing person case. On Nov. 12, 1988, Hudson had an argument with her mom, Lenan Garner. A relative reported seeing Hudson leave the apartment she and her mom shared on Dayton Valley Road at 7:30 a.m. There were two reported sightings of Hudson in the Dayton area within a month of her disappearance – then nothing.

Pattison is working with the FBI on Hudson’s case, which may be connected to other missing person cases from around the same period, he said. Pattison says a case of note from around the same period is that of Jaycee Dugard, who was kidnapped as an 11-year-old when she was walking to school in Meyers, Calif., and held as a sex slave for 18 years before she was found. Hudson and her mom had moved to Dayton from the South Lake Tahoe/Meyers area just a few weeks before her disappearance, Pattison said.

“She has vanished off the face of the earth,” Pattison said. “At some point in your life as a runaway, you reconnect with people. She hasn’t even had social security activity.

“We do have a person of interest in here, but he’s not local. That makes it difficult to investigate this.”
