Steven MacKrell was last seen retrieving his car, a white Ford Fusion and driving in the direction of a store he was to meet his coursin at. Steven never arrived and has not been seen or heard from since.

Steven MacKrell was in high spirits Wednesday night, toasting life with friends and family at Lucky's Tavern, a popular downtown bar.

At approximately 1:30 a.m., the group left. MacKrell retrieved his car and made plans to meet his cousin at a nearby Walgreens to figure out their next stop. MacKrell was observed getting into his white Ford Fusion and peeling off in the general direction of the store on Broward Boulevard and Seventh Avenue.

But the 25-year-old professional poker dealer and father to a one-year-old girl never arrived and hasn't been heard of since.

"You can't imagine what the family is going through right now," said Kevin MacKrell, who is a year older than his brother Steven. The family over the weekend posted hundreds of missing person photos in the downtown area.

"It's like he vanished in thin air," Kevin MacKrell said. "He hasn't touched his debit card and he hasn't shown up for work, and he never misses work. His cellphone hasn't been turned on since the battery died at the bar. His daughter misses him."

There are numerous surveillance cameras in the area and the family hopes that in coming days authorities will be able to retrace MacKrell's path.

That area...most of South Florida, has so many canals and man made lakes.
That there has been no use of his debit card or phone, makes me wonder if this might be a tragic accident.
Continuing to hope and pray for him.

Missing man seen on surveillance video; 'no doubt that's him,' brother says

Investigators have discovered that a Fort Lauderdale man who vanished after leaving a downtown bar nearly two weeks ago stopped at a Pompano Beach gas station and made a purchase about an hour after he was last seen by friends and family.

Fort Lauderdale police on Monday released a 30-second snippet from surveillance video showing Steven Mackrell, 25, stumbling while looking over the snack and candy selection at a Valero gas station on North Dixie Highway.

He had just left a bar. I presume he was intoxicated. Driving drunk. Probably had an accident somewhere. :( IMO

Brother of missing Fort Lauderdale man: Newly released surveillance video 'is our strongest lead'

Newly released surveillance video from a Pompano Beach gas station indicates a man was involved in a dispute before he went missing, police said.

The footage circulated by police Tuesday is the second clip released from the Valero gas station along North Dixie Highway in connection with the disappearance of Steven MacKrell, 25, of Fort Lauderdale, who was last seen July 30.

During the 20-second snippet of surveillance video, MacKrell is seen engaged in some sort of dispute with occupants of a silver sedan, possibly a Chevrolet Malibu, Fort Lauderdale Police Det. Keven Dupree said. Mackrell can be seen waving his arms in the air as the sedan speeds off.

The footage then cuts to about four minutes later when the sedan is seen on camera again — this time pulling up behind MacKrell's white 2013 Ford Fusion parked at the pumps. As the Ford drives away, the sedan speeds after it and out of the camera's view.

CBS4 Exclusive: Police Want To Question Missing Broward Man About Deadly Hit-&-Run

PLANTATION (CBSMiami) – CBS4 has learned Plantation Police want to question a missing Broward man about a horrific and deadly hit-and-run accident three weeks ago that claimed the lives of two people including the son of a veteran BSO deputy.

The missing man’s mother also says she has “no idea” if her son was connected to the accident but she tells CBS4’s Peter D’Oench she is desperate to find him.

“I am worried about my son,” said Astrid MacKrell in an exclusive interview with D’Oench.

Her 25-year-old son Steven was last seen early on the morning of July 30th.

“I have not heard from him for three weeks. He has never disappeared before. Never. This is not like him,” she said.

Plantation Police spokesman and detective Robert Rettig said, “We have been looking at a possible connection between these cases for a while. This man has been missing and we would like to talk to him.”

Authorities say MacKrell was last seen at 2:32 a.m. at the Valero gas station at 3601 North Dixie Highway in Pompano Beach when surveillance tape captured him inside the station and outside it at a gas pump with his 2013 white, 4-door Ford Fusion with a Florida tag of WJ70L.

This really looks bad. I fear for this young man.

Steven MacKrell disappeared in the early morning of July 30th.

He left Lucky’s Tavern in Downtown Fort Lauderdale and was seen on surveillance at 2:32 a.m. buying snacks at a Valero gas station at 3601 North Dixie highway in Pompano Beach.

Outside the gas station, he is seen having a run-in with the occupants of another car. That car is seen driving after Steven MacKrell when he leaves.

“I’m preparing for the worst, but hoping for the best,” said Steven MacKrell’s brother, Michael MacKrell who was with him hours before he disappeared.

Michael MacKrell is convinced the altercation at the gas station is connected to the disappearance.

MacKrell’s family and supporters are actively involved in the search for the casino worker and dad to a 1-year-old daughter.

Family, rescuers try to find man who vanished last year

It's been almost a year sinceSteven MacKrell, a 25-year-old professional poker dealer, left a downtown Fort Lauderdale bar and then stopped in a Pompano Beach gas station for snacks.

He has not been seen or heard from since.

She's planning a prayer service for July 30, on the one-year anniversary of her son's disappearance, hoping to once again bring attention to a case that has grown cold.

"It's not a vigil because we are holding onto hope that he is still alive," said MacKrell, who has been helping raise her son's daughter, Skyler, who will turn two on Wednesday.

Fort Lauderdale police spokeswoman Tracy Figone said no credible calls have come in. But because witnesses said MacKrell had about five drinks at the bar, investigators are also focusing on the possibility he may have fallen asleep while driving his car, or lost control of it, and ended up in a waterway.

Police helicopters, boats and dive teams have checked waterways along where MacKrell may have passed. Alison McManus, founder of Guardians for the Missing, also has been helping the family in the search. Her organization has had divers checking dozens of canals and waterways in the past year.
