fwiw, I've seen various figures thrown out. This is breaking news and very fluid. There are several at the least injured. The van drove for 1/4 to 1/2 a mile on this tourist area, going back and forth left and right to be sure they hit the maximum victims.

Barcelona terror attack: Multiple casualties as van ploughs into crowd at Las Ramblas - latest

At least 13 people have been killed and dozens injured after a van in Barcelona ploughed into pedestrians before two men entered a restaurant with guns.

Pictures and video emerging from the scene show armed police and paramedics rushing to Las Ramblas, a busy tree-lined promenade in the centre of the city.

Horrifying footage from the scene shows dozens of victims lying injured on the floor.

Police have confirmed that 32 people are injured, with Catalonia's interior minister Joaquim Forn saying it is 'very possible' that the number of dead will rise because of the 'very serious' wounds to victims.

Gunfire was heard at the Corte Ingles store in the area after police announced a 'massive crash'.

Police officers were said to be negotiating with two attackers in a Turkish restaurant where they have taken hostages.

Officers were also searching for a second van the attackers may have hired as a getaway vehicle.

The civil guard has said the van used in the attack was rented by a man named Driss Oukabir, in the town of Santa Perpetua de la Mogada, El Pais reports.

Eyewitnesses said swarms of people were running for their lives with one woman desperately screaming out for her child. Pictured: The van can be seen with a crumpled bonnet as people lie motionless on the pavement

This is live tv I'm saying this.

The Barcelona police have relayed there are NO suspects barricaded in a restaurant. The miscommunication was because people, in order to get away from the van, rushed a Turkish restaurant. People thought they were being held or there was a terrorist holding them there.

It was thought there were two vans involved, with one getting away. They located that van approximately 40 miles from Las Ramblas and the scene of the attack. Police arrested the driver of the second van as a terrorist. IMHO, we'll have to wait for the Spanish police to figure out if they really have one of the terrorists...

Meanwhile ........................... the police had closed off the promenade and set up road blocks around the perimeter. A white ford focus approached LE and rammed the police. The occupants then proceeded to jump from the car and opened fire on the police.

It seems this may be some sort of coordinated attack. Further investigation of the above is ongoing.

Barcelona terror attack: At least 12 dead after van plows into crowd; 2 suspects arrested

DEVELOPING: ISIS on Thursday afternoon claimed responsibility for the terror attack in Barcelona that killed at least 12 people and wounded 80 others.

The terror group took credit for the assault via its propaganda arm, according to SITE Intel Group.

"The perpetrators of the attack in #Barcelona are Islamic state soldiers and carried out the operation on command of [ISIS' leader] of targeting coalition countries," the ISIS release stated.

At least two people have been arrested as suspects in the attack, the regional president of Catalonia said.

One of those arrested is Driss Oukabir, a Moroccan citizen who lived in Spain legally, as a suspect in the attack. Oukabir rented the van that was used in the attack, according to El Pais.

A government official has confirmed to Fox News that intelligence agencies are now combing through their holdings, including terror watch lists, to determine if Oukabir was known to the FBI, DHS and other agencies. Officials are also working to determine if the suspect was blocked from entering the U.S., or if this was a radicalized individual that was not on government radar.

Mayor of Barcelona Ada Colau said those who participated in the attack "will not get away with it."

"We are a strong city in its diversity and values. Barcelona is a city of peace, of dialogue, of democracy, valient, open to the world. The cowards that have tried to plant terror will not get away with it," Colau said.

Person pictured and identified as the person who rented the van has turned himself into police. The named suspect reported to police he saw his picture on tv as being the suspect and then he realized his identification had been stolen. He said he didn't report his id missing previously, because he didn't even know it was gone. He suspects it was his 18 year old brother.

Police are now saying they believe the named suspect and he can prove he wasn't at the scene of the terror attack..

I listened to a report from Shep Smith on FOX a while ago. I guess one of the problems has been the language barrier. They speak Catalan which is different than regular Spanish. They have just been able to have a reporter who also speaks English get an interview with local LE.

Last night there was an explosion that blew up a house and killed two people. The house was full of gas cannisters.

Today a driver drove a van mowing down and killing 12 victims while injuring 100. The driver of the van was able to escape.

Then after they blocked the location where the attack occurred, a car drove straight at and hit police barricade. The driver then jumped out of the vehicle and had a gun battle with police and was then able to escape. A short time later LE found the shooter in his vehicle and he'd committed suicide.

There have been two arrests. The driver of the van is not in custody.

They located the second van a short distance from Barcelona, near the town where the van was rented from. I believe that involved one of the arrests.

Now it's theorized that they may have orginially planned to have the van full of cannisters and causing an explosion after they mowed down pedestrians.

A short time after the van attack, another house exploded, which I believe was a distance from Barcelona. One person was killed and 8 injurred from the surrounding area.

Oh, and ISIS has claimed responsibility.

Among the injurred there are a number that are critical and authorities expect the death toll to rise. :(

    phew! Talk about 'fluid.'

Several killed in Spain anti-terror operation after Barcelona attack

Police in Spain announced early Friday they killed several people in an anti-terror operation in Cambrils, hours after a van rammed into a crowd about 70 miles away in Barcelona, killing at least 13 people.

State-owned broadcaster RTVE reported police killed four people and injured another, after police suspected they were planning a second terror attack.

Meantime, authorities were on the hunt for the van driver. It was not immediately clear how the suspects killed in Cambrils may have been connected to the Barcelona attack.

At least two people have been arrested as suspects in the Barcelona incident, according to the regional president of Catalonia. One of the suspects is a Spanish national from Melilla, and the other is a Moroccan citizen who lived in Spain legally.

BREAKING NEWS: 'Four jihadis shot dead and several people injured' as gunfire erupts in beach resort south of Barcelona in new terror outrage hours after 13 died in van attack
    • Four terror suspects have been killed in a shootout 70 miles from Barcelona as police responded to an attack
    • Video footage shows armed officers and bodies strewn across the ground in the coastal town of Cambrils
    • Just hours earlier at least 13 people were killed and more than 100 injured after a terror attack in Barcelona

Four terror suspects have been killed and one injured in a shootout 70 miles from Barcelona as police carried out an operation linked to yesterday's massacre, which claimed 13 lives and left more than 100 injured.

Video footage shows armed officers running down a street in the coastal town of Cambrils, to the south of the Catalan city, shortly after midnight.

Bodies were strewn across the ground and it is unclear whether they were the gunmen or innocent victims caught up in the second terror attack to hit Spain in less than 24 hours.

Police said they are treating the latest incident - which comes just hours after a van ploughed into pedestrians in Barcelona - as terror.

Several people were injured by terrorists and witnesses have said the shooting happened close to a taxi rank, El Periodico reports.

Officers confirmed they had 'shot the perpetrators' in Cambrills and urged locals to 'avoid going out' and to 'stay home'.

Up to five people are feared dead after gunfire erupted in the beach resort of Cambrils, south of Barcelona, amid fears of a new terror attack

Terrifying footage shows members of the public leaping to safety as shots are fired, and armed officers were seen running down the street in an operation thought to be related to yesterday's mass killing.

A live report in El Nacional claims there could be up to five fatalities in the ongoing operation.

It came hours after investigators warned a driver who swerved through the busy Las Ramblas district, indiscriminately mowing down innocents, was still at large.

A man was last night shot dead on the outskirts of Barcelona after speeding through a roadblock, injuring two police officers. It is not known, however, if he was linked to the terror plot.

Two men, a Spanish national and a Moroccan, have been arrested, but neither was at the wheel of the Fiat van which mounted the pavement and sped into crowds of pedestrians.

Spanish police 'stop second attack' after 13 killed in Barcelona

Spanish police say they have killed four people in Cambrils to stop what they say was a second attempted attack after an earlier one in Barcelona.

Police warned people to stay off the streets, with shots reported in the port of Cambrils.

Thirteen people died and dozens were injured when a van ploughed into crowds in Barcelona's Las Ramblas area on Thursday afternoon.

Spain's Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said it was a "jihadist attack".

Another attacker was injured by the police gunfire in Cambrils, a police spokeswoman said.

Barcelona attack: police shoot dead four terror suspects in Cambrils after van crashes into crowd at Las Ramblas, killing 13

Terror returned to the streets of Europe on Thursday when a van ploughed into a crowd of people in Barcelona, killing at least 13 and injuring more than 100 others.

Footage of the scene showed dozens of bodies sprawled across the pavement in Las Ramblas, a street popular with tourists. Two men, one Spanish and one Moroccan, were arrested but police said the driver of the van was still at large.

On the early hours of Friday morning, in the town of Cambrils, 70 miles away, police said they were dealing with a “possible terrorist attack”.

Police later said they had killed four terror suspects. One suspect was injured. Police said the suspects were thought to have been plotting a similar attack to Barcelona.

Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil) claimed responsibility for the Barcelona attack as Joaquim Forn, Catalonia’s police chief, warned: “Unfortunately the number of fatalities will likely rise.”

San Francisco wife in desperate search for her husband in the wake of the Barcelona terror attack - after he went to find a toilet moments before a van rammed into crowds on Las Ramblas
    • Jared Tucker, 43, was in Las Ramblas area of Barcelona during the terror attack
    • 13 are dead, around 100 wounded after van ploughed through crowds of people
    • Tucker and wife Heidi Nunez were shopping for souvenirs when chaos unfolded
    • She fled the area with a friend unscathed but later returned to try and find him

A San Francisco man who was in the Barcelona tourist district when a terrorist ploughed a van through dozens of bystanders has not been seen since.

Jared Tucker, 43, was in Las Ramblas area with his wife Heidi Nunez when they became separated in the chaos of the attack which left 13 dead and more than 100 injured.

Hours after the first attack, five jihadis in fake suicide vests were shot dead by police after launching a second onslaught in Cambrils, 70 miles from Barcelona.

Tucker's brother-in-law Kalani Kalnui says they were buying souvenirs on the sidewalk when the vehicle came rampaging through the street packed with holidaymakers.

He told ABC News: 'He left, and seconds later she was pushed over into the kiosk and she was disoriented trying to find him. Police evacuated... her from the area.'

Kalnui says Nunez was able to flee the area unscathed but went back to try and find her husband.

Nunez is said to have contacted hospitals, temporary rescue centers and the Red Cross to try and find Tucker.

She was able to get out of the area with the friend they were staying with in Barcelona, who came and picked her up.'

'She's not able to find out information,' Kalnui said. '[Officials] haven't posted anything as far as names who are injured or deceased.'

Spanish officials have said the dead and injured from the attack, in which a jihadi drove a van through crowds of people at 60mph, span 24 different countries.

Police are today hunting for Europe's most wanted man Moussa Oukabir, an 18-year-old Moroccan-born teenager believed to have been the driver.

His brother's ID was used to rent up to three vans, including the one in the attack, but he has since handed himself into police and denied any involvement.
