Search for missing man Tiemuzhen Chalaer in bushland in Hawkesbury
    SMH - http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/search-fo...aer-in-bushland-in-hawkesbury-20160807-gqn6zm

Police hold grave concerns for a man who has been missing in dense bushland in the Hawkesbury area for more than 24 hours.
A search for Tiemuzhen Chalaer was suspended on Monday night, as temperatures were expected to dip to 4 degrees, and is due to resume at 9am on Tuesday.
    -----
The 24-year-old went missing from a campsite party at Lower Portland, near Wheelbarrow Ridge Road track and Greens Road, on Sunday morning.
He was last seen between 6.30am and 9am, when police believe he walked into bushland near the campsite.
    -----
Chief Inspector Garry Sims told ABC Radio that a misunderstanding led to the delay.
"It's one of those situations where everyone else was assuming he was with someone else, and it was only when people returned to their homes in Sydney they realised he hadn't returned," Inspector Sims said.
    -----
Friends and family took to Facebook to share a photo of the hotel management student, who was described as "the epitome of zen".

Tiemuzhen Chalaer: Search for man missing from Hawkesbury bushland dance party continues
    ABC NEWS - http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-08-10/search-continues-man-missing-in-hawkesbury/7711752

Police still hold out hope of finding a 24-year-old man who has been missing for three days in the Hawkesbury region, north-west Sydney.
    -----
Acting Inspector Jim Powers from Hawkesbury Local Area Command said they would not stop searching until he was found.
"At the moment we're treating this as a rescue operation," he said.
"We'll go for as long as it takes: it could be anywhere between five and seven days."
A search team of more than 50 people, including SES, police, Rural Fire Service and ambulance officers are combing the area looking for clues that point to the man's whereabouts.
Acting Inspector Powers said the size of the search area and its rugged terrain had made the operation difficult.
    -----
"The terrain around here is quite dense in parts. It is rocky, it's sandy, it's windy, it's quite hilly, and there are some significant drop-offs and gullies around," he said.
"It's fatiguing ... Any bush search has its inherent dangers."
Acting Inspector Powers said police were in contact with Mr Chalaer's family and it is understood his parents, who live in China, were considering flying to Australia.
"The missing person's sister has travelled up from Victoria, and we are liaising closely with the family members," he said.
    -----

    Partygoers urged to register event
Geoff Luscombe from the National Parks and Wildlife Service said it was helping out with the search of the area.
    -----
"The Parks Service and the police work very closely together as you can imagine, and we've been assisting the police with some local knowledge on this search and rescue," he said.
    -----
Acting Inspector Powers said he could not confirm what kind of event Mr Chalaer was attending.

Fears deepen for camper Tiemuzhen Chalaer, missing in Hawkesbury bush
    http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/fears-dee...-missing-from-hawkesbury-20160810-gqpsl0.html

An extensive search and rescue team has found no trace of a camper four days after he went missing from a campsite in the Hawkesbury area.
Chinese national Tiemuzhen Chalaer was last seen on Sunday morning, but his absence was not discovered until Sunday night when his friends returned home
    from the camping party.
    They then alerted police.
    -----
Their campsite at Lower Portland, near the intersection of the Wheelbarrow Ridge track and Greens Road, was surrounded by dense and hilly bushland, and close to the Colo and Hawkesbury rivers.
    -----
Officers from the Hawkesbury Local Command have been joined by police rescue, the State Emergency Service, Rural Fire Service and riot police.
Dogs have helped to search the ground, while drones and helicopters have searched from the air.
Detective Inspector Suzanne Rode-Sanders said the search was suspended at 4pm on Wednesday and would resume at 8.30am on Thursday, but a meeting would be held during the day to discuss
what resources should continue to be invested.
    -----
"Obviously the longer the search goes on, the less chance of finding him alive."

Mr Chalaer, who suffers from a condition that requires medication, was wearing a brown chequered button-up shirt, blue jeans, black adidas sneakers, a red scarf and a black leather jacket.
He is about 170 centimetres tall, of medium build and has a small moustache.

So the search has been halted? - that would make it from the 8th of August to the 12th of August 2016 - 5 days.
I wonder if they have news related to the disappearance from some members who attended the party?
It seems a short search compared to some which extend to 10-14 days.

SEARCH FOR A MISSING MAN HAS BEEN HALTED
    https://www.facebook.com/seshawkesbury/

A major search operation has been halted following five days of searching by emergency services.
About 8.10pm (Sunday 7 August 2016), police were notified that Tiemuzhen Chalaer, 24, failed to return from a music/camping party being held near Wheelbarrow Ridge Road track at Lower Portland.
This camp location is close to the intersection with Greens Road and adjoins rugged bushland.
The search has involved officers from Hawkesbury Local Area Command, Police Rescue, PolAir, the Dog Unit, Operational Support Group, State Emergency Service, Rural Fire Service and
    VRA Bushwalker Wilderness Rescue Squad.

The Hawkbury SES also said that Police would continue the search with specialized dogs.

I assume at this stage with the search called off, these are cadaver dogs, though there is no confirmation as such.

The news media has been non existant over the search for the past 2 days.

It does seem odd the search has been halted but then one of the earlier reports said.... "We'll go for as long as it takes: it could be anywhere between five and seven days."

Although given the reports mention Tiemuzhen has a medical condition, I'm wondering if police came across some info which gives them cause to believe the poor man may not be alive.

I wonder if the search dogs at the time who were looking for him as a 'Missing Person' picked up any scent as to the direction he may have wandered off to?

No news on this Missing man - it seems to just have stopped completely!

Are there still private searchers out there on the weekends looking for him - some of his friends / family / colleagues / associates?
    What has happened here!!
Where is the follow up by Main Stream Media for this missing man?

    WTH!

I wish those that were responsible for organizing the party had registered the event - or they had someone to oversee the safety of the attendees - like you do when you have a designated driver
when a bunch of friends go out drinking. Someone just keeps an eye on things for everyone.

Im not sure if there is a suggestion here that the Missing man has gone AWOL voluntarily due to the lack of coverage.
If anyone knows what is happening with the search for this man - I hope they could shed some light here as to what is going on.

When my boys were in Scouts, one thing they impressed upon all of us is that no one is to go anywhere alone! Always go out in groups of two. I try to follow that as best I can, especially in areas where I could get lost.

It's hard to know what has really happened when there's zero info released although police always know a lot more.

The search for him was intense then nothing further. Reading around a few sites, whether it's true or not, some have mentioned Tiemuzhen as being diabetic requiring insulin. He could quite easily have passed out somewhere in that bush if he didn't have his insulin. But then he should have been located by searchers if he'd not wandered too far.

All reports state he's a Chinese National. I don't really like asking this but I wonder if he was on a visa.

I steered away from the question too Marly, as I think it would be very hard for him, with the condition of his health, to be able to seek a long term stay by disappearing voluntarily, and there would be no continuing with his study in Hospitality.
Its hard to say - there is no further information regarding his personal situation here in Australia or in China.

His family deserve to know where their son is.
Its strange that there was just no sign of him.

Ok, time for another (maybe) dumb American question: isn't it winter there? I tried checking out the temps, etc. several times, but they varied quite a bit based on the area of AU. I'm just wondering if it's cold in the part of the country he is assumed to have vanished in.
    Thanks!

What happened to Tim? Family of missing student Tiemuzhen Chalaer plead for help

    9 Sep 2016

After a night enjoying music with friends at a camping festival, Tiemuzhen "Tim" Chalaer rose early on Sunday morning to go to the toilet.

Some time between 6.30am and 9am on August 7, he wandered a short distance from his tent into dense bushland in Sydney's Hawkesbury region.

    He hasn't been seen since.

On Thursday, more than a month after their son vanished, Mr Chalaer's family made a desperate plea for help.

Police wrapped up the search operation for the hotel management student and avid music lover in August and will only conduct sporadic searches in the future.

They found Mr Chalaer's shoes, with the socks tucked inside, about 400 metres from the campsite.

But Mr Chalaer's mother and father, who have travelled from China to find their son, believe he has been kidnapped and is still alive.

"From the first day, as parents, our feelings told us our son was not dead," father Hakki Caglar, a Chinese industrial businessman, told Fairfax Media on Thursday.

"Parents sometimes have these feelings. The police said there was no evidence to divert them away from their search but we think he might be taken away. By who, we don't know. "

If someone does have their son, they have appealed to them to give Mr Chalaer insulin as he suffers from Type 1 Diabetes and will die without it.

When Mr Chalaer left his campsite, he didn't have his insulin.

His family believes he wouldn't have been able to wander far without it. The fact police found no trace of him within a six square-kilometre search area indicates to them that something else has happened to their son.

"The only explanation to us is he's not there, he's out of the area," Mr Caglar said.

Hawkesbury crime manager Detective Chief Inspector Paul McHugh said the area he disappeared in is extremely dense, rough terrain and there is no evidence to suggest foul play.

"We're reassessing at the moment as to what we can do with the search and there are investigations going on in the background. We're gathering all the information we possibly can about family, background, work, study, any links with associates, friends," he said.

Mr Chalaer had been in Australia for 18 months studying a masters in hospitality at the Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School.

Classmates, friends and fellow festival-goers have shared his image on social media, desperate to find the man they described as the "epitome of zen".

He attended the bush "doof" festival with three friends on August 6 and didn't know the other 300-or-so guests, his family said.

A photo of him taken the day before he disappeared shows him enjoying himself, smiling and wearing a multi-coloured scarf with his head shaved.

Search efforts were initially hindered because no one realised Mr Chalaer was missing until the Sunday evening, more than 12 hours after he disappeared.

"It's one of those situations where everyone else was assuming he was with someone else, and it was only when people returned to their homes in Sydney they realised he hadn't returned," Chief Inspector Garry Sims said at the time.

Temperatures dipped to 4 degrees during the following nights.

His family are thankful for the huge search effort that involved police, SES, Dog Unit and PolAir but they are heartbroken that resources have been scaled back.

His parents, who raced to Sydney the day their son went missing, have vowed to stay until they find him.

They have spent each day since then going to the area where he went missing, talking to his friends to see if they noticed anything and printing and distributing missing person posters.

At the bottom of the poster, it says: "his family is anxiously waiting for him".
