    July 02, 2018 10:13 AM

Police Have 'Valuable Information' into Slaying of Calif. Dad Shot Next to Daughters While Camping

Police have developed “valuable information” about the killing of a California scientist who was fatally shot while camping with his two young daughters, according to a Wednesday press release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

However, “the motive or suspect information remains unknown” in the investigation of the death of 35-year-old Tristan Beaudette, states the release, adding that the department is working with investigators from other agencies.

Meanwhile, Beaudette’s wife has issued a statement urging people to come forward about the death of her husband, who was fatally shot in the head while inside his tent in the early morning hours of June 22.
A $30,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect in Beaudette’s slaying.

Investigators are looking into a possible connection between the homicide and previous reports of gunfire in the area in the last two years, though no tie has been established.

Investigators: Shooting of Irvine father in Malibu Creek State Park not ‘gang-related,’ but details still sparse

By JOSH CAIN | jcain@scng.com | Los Angeles Daily News
    PUBLISHED: August 19, 2018 at 6:39 pm | UPDATED: August 19, 2018 at 7:55 pm

A sheriff’s department commander said Sunday that the mysterious shooting death of an Irvine father at Malibu Creek State Park in June was not believed to be gang-related, and that the killing remained under investigation.

At a community meeting attended by dozens of local residents on state park land near the campground where 35-year-old Tristan Beaudette was shot to death, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Rodney Moore said investigators still have determined neither a suspect nor a motive in the killing.

He and other investigators at an auditorium at King Gillette Ranch said they needed help from tipsters to identify the suspect or suspects responsible for Beaudette’s death.

“It’s true that we do not have a known theory or definitive answer in Mr. Beaudette’s death, or a known suspect,” Moore said. “However, we are working and moving in the direction of certain theories that do not include a gang-style homicide.”

A $30,000 reward for information leading to a conviction of a suspect in Beaudette’s killing remains in effect.

Royal said anyone with information about possible gunfire in the area should contact sheriff’s investigators at 323-890-5500.

    An arrest was made!

    • Anthony Rauda was carrying the gun and two loaded magazines when he was arrested in October near the park
    • A detective familiar with the case who was not authorized to speak publicly called it part of a 10-year crime spree

Authorities said this week they had finally assembled enough evidence to link the June 22 killing of the young father to the arrest of a reputed serial burglar, caught last October in a steep, brush-covered ravine near the park while armed with a rifle. A criminal complaint filed Monday charges Anthony Rauda with the murder of Tristan Beaudette, who was hit with a single shot while his young daughters slept beside him.

Rauda, 42, also faces a total of 10 counts of attempted murder for a series of other peculiar gunfire attacks in the area of the park and Las Virgenes Road, and five counts of second-degree burglary for break-ins in the same area over the last few years.
Rauda was scheduled to appear in court Monday for an arraignment. He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted.

Anthony Rauda is shown at a court appearance in November when he was charged with burglaries. He was wearing a spit guard and had to be wheeled in by guards

Police arrested Rauda in October this year after being caught trying to steal food in a different beach park. He was holding a rifle at the time and was dressed all in black.

On Monday, prosecutors charged a suspect with carrying out those shootings. Anthony Rauda, 42, was charged Monday with one count of murder, 10 counts of attempted murder and five counts of second-degree burglary, the LA County District Attorney's Office said.

His arraignment was continued until January 22, the office said.

The suspect, who the LA County Sheriff's Department said has no known residence, has also been charged with several burglaries that happened last year in the Calabasas area. He was arrested in October in relation to those cases.

Some background on the arrested man:

Calabasas burglary suspect described by family member as reclusive
    Friday, October 12, 2018

A close family member said the 42-year-old Rauda had lived in the Hills for 10 years. He was afraid of people, the family member said.

"He doesn't talk to people a lot. He is a loner," the family member said. "He just likes to be alone."

Ballistics tests are underway to determine whether Rauda's rifle is tied to a fatal shooting at Malibu Creek Park, where Tristan Beaudette was shot and killed while he was inside his tent camping with his two young daughters.

"I don't think Anthony would do that. I don't know him as a violent person," the family member said. "I know that the only weapon that he would carry is a knife, which he uses to camp out."
