Tyler Thomas case: Family of missing student wants Peru State officials held responsible

Lincoln attorney Vince Powers, who represents the family of Tyler Thomas, asked a district court judge in Nemaha County to hold college officials responsible for ignoring warnings that Joshua Keadle was a potential threat to young women enrolled at Peru State. In the weeks before Thomas’ disappearance, the college’s director of campus security had recommended to administrators that Keadle be expelled. At the time, Keadle was a 29-year-old student who had been accused of verbal sexual harassment by two female students during his first weeks of living in a co-ed dorm.

Joshua Keadle makes first court appearance in slaying of Peru State student Tyler Thomas, facing the stares of her relatives

AUBURN, Neb. — The eyes told the story in an otherwise silent courtroom.
The prison inmate cast his gaze downward as he walked in Thursday, charged with first-degree murder in the death of Tyler Thomas, a 19-year-old student who disappeared from Peru State College in 2010.
Joshua Keadle walked past nine relatives of Thomas, including a mother and father from Omaha who have waited seven years for justice in their daughter’s death.

Josh Keadle now set for arraignment July 2

A judge Thursday rejected a defense argument that there was insufficient evidence to send Joshua Keadle’s murder case to district court, and he now is set for arraignment July 2.

Keadle, 36, is accused of first-degree murder in connection with the disappearance and presumed death of Tyler “Ty” Thomas, a 19-year-old Peru State College student who vanished Dec. 3, 2010.

Joshua Keadle pleads not guilty to murder in disappearance of Peru State student

AUBURN, Neb. (AP) — A 36-year-old man charged with first-degree murder in the case of a missing Peru State College student has pleaded not guilty.

Joshua Keadle entered the written plea Thursday in Nemaha County District Court. He’s charged in the disappearance and presumed death of 19-year-old Tyler “Ty” Thomas.

Keadle's attorneys seek to move Ty Thomas murder trial out of Auburn

Joshua Keadle's attorney argued Friday that local conditions and pretrial publicity make it "impossible to secure a fair and impartial jury" in Nemaha County, suggesting his upcoming murder trial should be moved.

At the end of the hearing, Schreiner asked the prosecutor whether venue was a personal right belonging to a defendant.

Warner said the state had an interest in a trial taking place where the alleged crime occurred.

"What is that interest?" the judge asked him.

Schreiner will decide the motion in the coming weeks.
