It's like we've hit a new low in our humanity. Now when the gangs can't get retaliation from their rivals, they execute their children. Word is, that's what happened to nine year old Tyshawn Lee.

    There are no words.

    CHICAGO (WLS) --
Police investigating the fatal shooting of 9-year-old Tayshawn Lee in a South Side alley believe that the boy was targeted as part of an ongoing gang feud involving his relatives.

Police said they believe the child's father has information about the possible retaliation, but is not being forthcoming.

Meanwhile, Tayshawn's mother, Karla Lee, has made tearful public pleas for help in solving her son's murder.

"I just want justice for my son. If anyone knows anything please let the police know," Lee tearfully said.

Community activists echoed the call for information and police continued to canvas the neighborhood.

Chicago Police: 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee lured into alley, shot to death

(CNN)A 9-year-old boy killed in Chicago this week was "lured" into an alley and shot in a gang-related attack, authorities said.

"Tyshawn Lee was murdered in probably the most abhorrent, cowardly, unfathomable crime that I've witnessed in 35 years of policing," Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy told reporters Thursday.

"We're pretty certain that this is not an accident. He was not a bystander."

The child was targeted, according to McCarthy, because of his "family relationship with a member of a gang."

Mother of Slain 9-Year-Old Responds to Claims She Bought New Car With ******** Money

The mother of Tyshawn Lee, the 9-year-old who was shot to death in an alleyway in Chicago on Monday, has spoken out after rumors circulated on social media that she bought a new car with money from a ******** account for Tyshawn's funeral.

Karla Lee told NBC 5 she did buy a new car, but not with the money from the ******** account. She said she bought the car for protection after what happened to her son, and she used savings to make the purchase.

McCarthy said they believe Tyshawn was targeted and lured there to be executed. He said this is the most recent in a series of gang-related violence going back several months.

He said police know the two groups and the individuals involved but are having difficulty proving who pulled the trigger without a cooperating witness.

Police told the Chicago Tribune the conflict was between the Gangster Disciples and the Black P Stones, two of Chicago's oldest gangs. Police reportedly believe the Terror Dome faction of the Black P Stones targeted Tyshawn in a retaliatory action against his father, Pierre Stokes, a convicted felon and reputed member of the Gangster Disciples' Killa Ward faction.

McCarthy told the Tribune that Stokes may know who his son's killer is but has been uncooperative. Stokes has denied this and said that anyone who wanted to hurt him would have no reason to hurt his son instead.

Memorial for slain 9-year old Tyshawn Lee Destroyed in Fire

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - The alley memorial for murdered 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee was destroyed in a fire early Sunday in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood on the South Side.

Firefighters responded to a garage fire about 3 a.m in the 2000 block of West 80th Street, Chicago Fire Department Cmdr. Walter Schroeder said. The memorial for Tyshawn — which included several candles — was located next to the garage.

The candles started the fire on accident? Or the rival gang started it on purpose?

[IMG]The leaders in Chicago need to step up to the plate. Their children are dying.

Chicago has some of the toughest gun laws in the country, yet their murder rate is sky high and their children are dying.

What will it take for the lawmakers in Chicago to realize it's not the guns that are the problem, it's the gangs with the guns? The gangs are killing their children.

Will it take the death of a lawmakers child to make them react? The communities children are dying.

How many times do we have to say it?

This child and all the children before him didn't deserve this. They deserve to live. They deserve for the adults in their community, the lawmakers in their city to enforce the laws and even more, go after the gangs.

    This is enough!

Chicago gun violence: Each child's dying breath

Over time we all will learn more about the savaging of Tyshawn Lee, the basketball devotee who won't celebrate his 10th birthday. Multiple gunshot wounds pre-empted that prospect Monday afternoon. Depending on where the first bullet hit, his body responded as best it could: His nerves likely activated chemical neurotransmitters that created an atmosphere of pain, shock and fear in his brain. Owing to massive tissue damage, loss of oxygen-carrying blood or both, Tyshawn ultimately drew one dying breath.

We hope every Illinois lawmaker finds a private moment to imagine that annihilation of a child on this city's South Side. Especially the Chicago lawmakers who have blocked legislation that would stiffen sentences for gun crimes.

Maybe, as is custom for the lawmakers, they'll decry the violence on their streets, do absolutely nothing about it and move on. They're absorbed by big battles they'll fight in Springfield. If the lawmakers again duck responsibility — if they shrewdly wait for the rest of us, too, to move on — the dying breath of Tyshawn Lee still will faintly echo the dying breaths of so many Chicago children:

    CHICAGO (WLS) --
Family, friends and even strangers gathered to remember a 9-year-old boy who police say was lured to a South Side alley and shot to death.

Tyshawn Lee was killed one week ago.

"It hurts because it is a child. Like I said, I got three of my own actually, so, I can only imagine," said Nesha Mathias, who attended Tyshawn's visitation.

"I think it is sad that it ever happened to him," said Chris Mathias.

The parents of one of Tyshawn's classmates say their son - who had been proud walking to and from school by himself - is now anxious to get rides.

"Now his mother has to pick him up and take him every day because of this situation. Children should not have to endure these type of situations that's going on, and it's becoming, it's a society problem. It really is," said Yohoama Dixon.

    CHICAGO (WLS) --
"Tyshawn was not in the wrong place. The murderer, the executioner, the assassin - he was in the wrong place," Father Michael Pfleger said Tuesday at the funeral for Tyshawn Lee. The 9-year-old boy was lured into an alley and executed by gang members eight days ago, Chicago police said.

"Tyshawn was on his way to play basketball at the park down the street from his grandmother's house. Our children have a right to walk our streets. Our children have a right to play in the park. Our children have a right to sit on their porch. Our children have a right expect to be safe wherever they are in the city of Chicago. Our children deserve that," Father Pfleger said. "Tyshawn was doing what every child has a right to do: be a child."

Report: Police closing in on Tyshawn Lee's killer

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - Police are reportedly closing in on whoever killed 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee, whose death was a result of a two year war between rival street gangs.

The violence spiked on October 13 with the shooting death of a gang member who was riding home with his mother. He died of a gunshot wound to his stomach and his mother was also hurt.

To retaliate, a source told The Daily Beast that the victim's gang decided to pick an easy target, which ended up being the 9-year-old son of a rival gang member.

The source also told the publication that they knew the boy visited his grandmother who lived in their turf. So, they knew they wouldn't be challenged.

On November 2, they carried out their execution. Police have interviewed one man they believe is connected with the killing. They say it’s only a matter of time before they put all the pieces together and make an arrest.

What would you say if I told you that the mother of a murdered boy left town for Las Vegas on the evening of her son's funeral?

That's the news I am trying to develop this morning for Good Day Chicago. TWO very good sources tell me Karla Lee (Tyshawn Lee's mother) has left town. One of the sources says she left on Tuesday night --THE VERY NIGHT OF HER SON'S FUNERAL--and SHE FLEW TO LAS VEGAS. Her family is said to be incensed. Keep in mind, this is the same Karla Lee who took a hit on social media over the weekend when she was criticized for using ******** money to buy a brand new car. She adamantly denied using the money from the fund...but said it was money she saved up beforehand. She said she needed a car for her protection because walking and taking the bus just wasn't safe for her. (( In all fairness, Karla Lee's cell phone is a Las Vegas phone number))

Tyshawn's Classmates Say Gangs Plague Area: 'It's Like Bang Bang Bang'

Students at Joplin Elementary said they're able to talk to someone at school to cope with the loss of Tyshawn Lee.
    DNAinfo/Andrea V. Watson

AUBURN GRESHAM — Since the fatal shooting of 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee, Scott Joplin Elementary School has offered students grief counseling and beefed up security as the community grapples with his unsolved slaying.

Tyshawn was "targeted" for execution, possibly because of his family's gang ties, andlured into an alley from a nearby park while close to his grandmother's home in Auburn Gresham last week, police said. The killer is still at large, and police and community members are pleading with the public to come forward with information.

A visitation for Tyshawn was held at Haven of Rest Missionary Baptist Church on Monday, where even Chicagoans who did not know the boy showed up to pay their respects. His classmates from Joplin, 7927 S Honore St., were invited to the funeral, which was held at St. Sabina Tuesday.

Do gang members kill family often? This is the first case I've known of that discusses a specific little boy killed in a gang retaliation.
