Toddler Venessa Morales missing from home where mom was found dead: cops

A 1-year-old girl has been reported missing from her Connecticut home — where her mother was also found dead in what authorities are probing as a homicide, according to police and a new report.

The tot, Venessa Morales, should have been inside the Ansonia home where her mother’s lifeless body was discovered Monday, but she was nowhere to be found, local authorities said. Police believe she may be in danger.

Authorities first responded to the Myrtle Avenue home just before 1 p.m. Monday for a welfare check after Venessa’s mother did not show up for work or call in sick, authorities said at a Tuesday press conference, according to The Connecticut Post.

An officer went to the home and tried to make contact, but there was no answer, police said.

Authorities conducted a second welfare check at 7:30 p.m. that day, and ultimately forced their way inside.

There, they found the body of the woman, whose name has not been released pending formal identification by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner Wednesday morning.

Police Chief Andrew Cota III confirmed to The Connecticut Post that the woman was Venessa’s mother and that “she did not die of natural causes.”

The FBI has joined with local authorities to investigate both the suspicious death and Vanessa’s disappearance.

“This is a two-part investigation — the first part is a homicide investigation, the second is a missing child investigation,” Ansonia Police Lt. Patrick Lynch said at the press conference. “Our main focus at the moment is finding Venessa Morales and making sure she’s safe.”

Police said they do not have a suspect at this time but are following several leads.

The child’s father, who occasionally stayed at the home but did not live there, has been cooperating with the investigation, according to Lynch.

“When I heard this little girl was missing I told [the police chief] to use all the resources he needs — state police, the feds — everything. I want this baby found,” Ansonia Mayor David Cassetti told the local paper. “That is paramount. That has to be the focus.”

Ansonia police give update on homicide, missing girl investigation

Police did not say or immediately respond to request for comment about whether there were any indications of forced entry at the home prior to the police arrival.

A Silver Alert was issued early Tuesday morning. Lynch said once police have exhausted all possible leads, they will consider issuing an Amber Alert.

The alert listed Venessa as an “endangered missing child.” She is described as a white girl with brown eyes and brown hair. She stands roughly 2 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 17 pounds.

“We’re at the point where we are following every lead we have,” Lynch said.

Police spent part of the morning interviewing nearby neighbors.

Joe Baldespino, who lives across the street, was one of those questioned. “The lady was quiet,” he said. “I saw the little girl.

“I saw the gentleman two times and once he asked me for work,” added Baldespino, a cook employed by Southern Connecticut State University. “I gave him the website.”

Baldespino said there were several cars near the home on Thanksgiving.

Nicole Pagano, who lives nearby, took a walk to the crime scene with her 11-year-old daughter and 8-year-old niece. “We heard there was a Silver Alert for the little girl online and we’re getting updates,” Pagano said. “We walk this area often and never saw anyone there.”

The two girls said they went to the house on Halloween, but no one answered the door.

The residential street is filled with well-kept multifamily homes and is not far from Santini’s pizza and Castle Beverages.

Dave Pantalone, who co-owns Castle, and Sal Haniaf, a former aldermanic candidate, were unaware of the incident when passing by Tuesday.

“This is the best neighborhood in town,” Pantalone said. “Nothing ever happens here.”

“It’s all families,” Haniaf added. “It’s the best street in Ansonia.”

Silver Alert issued for missing 1-year-old girl upgraded to Amber Alert as Ansonia PD investigate case of homicide victim found

An Amber Alert has been issued Wednesday for a 1-year-old Ansonia girl who is missing from a home where a woman was found dead on Monday night.

Police said in a press conference Wednesday that the determined cause of death was blunt force trauma. They are waiting to release the identity of the woman until the medical examiners have a verified ID using the woman’s fingerprints.

Family members became concerned Monday when they hadn’t heard from the woman in a couple days. The last time she and the child were seen by family members was on Thanksgiving.

Police did a welfare check after the woman failed to show up to work or call in sick Monday. Officers found the deceased woman inside of the house, but 1-year-old Venessa was not there and they have not been able to locate her.

Detectives were seen taking pictures inside of the house and searching a car outside, as well as taking bags of evidence out of the home since Monday.

Authorities are also going door-to-door asking neighbors if they saw anything.

In their press conference Wednesday, police encourage whoever may have the baby to let them know as soon as possible so they know the baby is safe.

“This is not about punishing someone who may have her. This is about getting her and making sure she’s safe.”

Police tell News 8 that they are interviewing the father and that he is cooperating with detectives. They are also speaking with relatives from both the mother and father’s side to determine Morales’ whereabouts.

Venessa Morales Missing: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Venessa Morales is the baby girl who was reported missing after her mother was found dead in their home in Ansonia, Connecticut. An Amber Alert has been issued.

Her mother was discovered dead on Monday, December 2, 2019. Family members had last seen the mother and child the previous Friday, on the day after Thanksgiving. Police have not publicly identified the victim, but photos and social media posts from family members show that Venessa’s mother is Christine Holloway.

The city of Asonia is about 10 miles west of New Haven, which is where Yale University is located.

    1. Police Believe Venessa Morales Is Endangered & the FBI Is Assisting With the Investigation

The Ansonia Police Department believes that Venessa Morales could be in danger. She is one-year-old with brown hair and brown eyes. Police are not sure what she may have been wearing when she disappeared. Venessa weighs about 17 pounds and is just over two feet tall.

Police have not released any details about who they think could have taken the child. The FBI, the Connecticut State Police, and officers from the Derby Police Department are assisting with the search.

Lt. Patrick Lynch of Ansonia Police says that officers are “tracking down several leads” and identifying possible locations where Morales could have been taken in the hopes of bringing her home safely.

Arrest in New Haven connected to Ansonia homicide; 1-year-old still missing

New Haven police have charged a convicted felon with possession of two stun guns after serving a search warrant “as part of an Ansonia homicide investigation.”

The arrest is the latest information to surface in the search for a missing 1-year-old Ansonia child whose mother was found dead from blunt force trauma earlier this week.

A prayer vigil for Venessa Morales and her mother will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday at Veterans Park in Ansonia, next to City Hall.

According to the narrative of the police report, Ansonia Police contacted New Haven Police on Dec. 3 and asked them to serve the warrant on Jose Morales, 34, at an address on First Avenue. Officers found a box containing a Vipertek VTS-979-1 stun gun in a bedroom closet and a canvas pouch in a gym bag on the floor containing a Hornet Guard Dog Security stun gun.

According to the report, “as a convicted felon in the State of Connecticut” Morales is prohibited from possessing the weapons.

He was charged with two counts of criminal possession of an electronic defense weapon and remanded to New Haven jail where he is being detained on $250,000 bond with the stipulation he can’t be released without a judge’s permission.

His next appearance in New Haven Superior Court is Dec 18.

The report does not specify how the man was connected with the homicide.

*sigh* Yep. I know pictures can't tell a whole story but they certainly look happy in that picture. What happened? Can only hope he didn't harm his baby girl too.

Update: Toddler’s Father Faces Weapons Charges, Family Pleads For Vanessa’s Safe Return

The search for Vanessa Morales, a missing 1-year-old girl from Ansonia, continued Thursday as the girl’s father was held in jail in New Haven after he was arrested on weapons charges.

The arrest was made after Ansonia police served a search and seizure warrant on the man’s residence in New Haven’s Fair Haven Heights neighborhood.

On Thursday evening Lt. Patrick Lynch confirmed the father’s arrest, and noted that he had been cooperative with police.

At an emotional press conference Thursday evening in Ansonia Town Hall, Vanessa’s relatives stood next to one another behind a podium police used to address the media.

A woman only identified as Aunt Anna fought through tears to get her message out:

“The family would like to thank all the law enforcement agencies involved in searching for my baby niece Vanessa Morales,” she said. “My name is Anna and I’m Vanessa’s aunt. We the family would like to ask for everyone in our community and beyond us (to) help bring baby Vanessa home safely. Anyone with any information on her whereabouts, we beg of you to please contact Ansonia Police Department or call the FBI tip line 203 503 5555. We desperately need anyone that might be with baby Vanessa to keep her safe, unharmed, and to get her back to us quickly.”

I am trying to maintain some hope in this one. "He" or whoever left the mother there dead but not the child so hopefully the child was taken and is safe.

Oh dear! I've heard that law enforcement gives mercy on the parent of a missing child, unless that parent is suspect.
