RAHWAY — Authorities are investigating the death of a city woman whose body was found in her home early today, but neighbors say the incident at the home began last night and the woman's body was not found for several hours.

The neighbors say the victim's teenage son discovered a masked gunman hiding in the house Sunday night, and quickly ran for help.

One neighbor said he chased the masked man for several hundred yards. The neighbor said police arriving at the scene stopped him as the masked man kept running.

Acting Union County Prosecutor Grace Park said Rahway police received a 911 call at 4 a.m. today and officers arriving at the Beacon Street home found the body of 35-year-old Yolanda Vega.

"A very, very, very nice young woman," said Shronda Grove Williams, who lives next door to Vega. "She did not deserve this," Williams said as she fought back tears.

She said Vega had lived in the Beacon Street home with her two sons for the last eight years.

This is really a sad situation! When the intruder was discovered, they had no idea Yolanda had been killed. Now the intruder is still out there somewhere!

Well this is a strange one....

Why on earth wasn't she found right away? How did her son notice her closet door unusually shut, in the middle of the night - see the intruder IN the closet, and NOT make sure his mother was okay ASAP (or rather, discover her body in this case, sadly)...

    And this:

Police went to the house, but Vega's body was not discovered, Williams said, and added that relatives told her that Vega was believed to be missing.

The prosecutor's office declined to comment on whether Rahway police went to the house Sunday. Rahway police did not immediately return a call seeking a comment.

This is why she wasn't found at first.

Missing mom's body found hidden in home

Police are searching for the person who killed a young mother of two in New Jersey.

On Sunday evening, Yolanda Vega, 35, stayed at her home while her fiancé and their two sons went out to dinner. When the fiancé and his sons returned, Vega’s car was at the home but she was missing.

If you go to that link and see his photo, there are arrows on the sides so that you can slide to see other photos. One of the photos is a Wanted poster because he sexually assaulted someone earlier this year. So I'm not thinking anyone was involved except him and his victim. He may have stopped by and her b/f and two sons went out to eat or something, crime of opportunity, IMHO.

Bloomfield man sentenced to 55 years for 'cold-blooded' murder of Rahway woman

An Essex County man who murdered a woman inside her Rahway home three years ago has been sentenced to 55 years in state prison, acting Union County Prosecutor Michael A. Monahan said in a news release Monday.

Roberto Grillo, 39, of Bloomfield must serve a minimum of slightly more than 51 years in state prison before becoming eligible for parole under the terms set down Friday by Superior Court Judge Robert Kirsch.

Grillo was found guilty of murdering 35-year-old Yolanda Vega on Dec. 6, 2015.

“This was a cold-blooded, brutal murder,” Kirsch said in handing down the sentence. “If it doesn’t constitute depravity, I don’t know what does … the public at large has to know that it’s intolerable, and Mr. Grillo needs to be removed from society … for a substantial period of time.”
