Family pleads for safe return of 14-year-old Aaliyah Ramirez who went missing in Indiana while walking to bus stop three weeks ago

The search continues for Aaliyah Ramirez, a 14-year-old girl from Syracuse, Indiana, who disappeared on her way to the bus stop on April 27, 2021. She never made it to school and never returned home.

Nearly three weeks have passed without any sign of the teen and her family told Dateline they are worried.

“I just want my daughter back home,” Aaliyah’s father, Anthony Ramirez, told Dateline. “I want her found safe.”

Video footage from a doorbell camera at the apartment building where she lives with her father and younger sisters captured images of Aaliyah minutes before her disappearance.

Anthony told Dateline that everything was fine with his daughter and that he has no reason to think she would have run away.

“It was a totally normal day,” he said, adding that the night before, Aaliyah had called him into her room excited to talk to him about something she had seen in the news regarding a UFC fighter who had been injured just days prior.

The next day she was gone.

Anthony, who works as a traveling welder, told Dateline it wasn’t until later that afternoon that he got a call that his daughter never showed up to school.

There were theories that the 14-year-old was a runaway, but Anthony said he believes someone has taken his daughter.

“As a father, I just knew something was wrong,” he said. “She’s in trouble and we need to get her home safe.”

The day after Aaliyah went missing, a statewide Silver Alert was declared by the Syracuse Police Department, and remains in effect three weeks later. Syracuse dispatcher Michelle Hyden directed Dateline to the latest release on Aaliyah’s disappearance, which states that authorities believe the teen to be in danger.

Syracuse police officials told NBC affiliate WPTV that Aaliyah may be heading to Marion, Indiana, or Palm Beach County, Florida, where she has family. Her father also believes she may be in Florida and being held against her will.

Aaliyah’s mother, Ashli Aspy, who lives about two hours away in Hartford City, Indiana told Dateline that their family dynamic is complicated and there have been accusations, but she hopes what she says are upcoming polygraph tests being done by the police will clear up the drama.

VIDEO: Last known sighting of missing Syracuse teenager, believed to be in danger

It’s been three weeks since a statewide Silver Alert was issued for Aaliyah Ramirez, 14. The alert is still in effect.

As the search for the missing Syracuse teenager continues, a new video has been released showing what family and friends believe is the last video of Aaliyah before she disappeared.

The video shows footage from a doorbell camera at the home where she lives with her father and younger sister. The video shows Aaliyah walking to her bus stop.

An official with the Syracuse Police Department says that Aaliyah is not a runaway and is believed to be in danger. Police believe that Aaliyah may be in Marion, Indiana, or Palm Beach County, Florida, where she has family.

A bit confusing as the PD says she is not a runaway, is believed to be in danger but may be in Florida where she has family. What would that mean, that a family member took her against her will?

The younger sister is not missing and apparently does not go to school either at the same time or on the same bus with her. The father apparently has custody if she goes to school there as the mom lives two hours away.

As to a family member though, not sure why they would take only one of the two children. Didn't see much to note in the video other than she was carrying a bag in addition to her backpack. Hopefully there is other video. This was their own doorbell cam the way it sounds so if she did run away (which LE says she did not, so clearly to make that statement, they know something), she would know of their own camera.

Just observations - praying she is found safe.

I read that the mom said that the family dynamics are complicated so there’s probably a lot of things we don’t know about.

True. She made the remark about polygraphs as well. The reference to family in Florida also would not be either the mom or dad based on where it says they live.

The fact family locations are mentioned and that they said she is not a runaway at least is hopeful that she is with family members and is alive and safe.

Aside from that, with her age, I would be looking hard at internet and phone activity and contacts, etc.

Court documents from 2015 show that the 14 -year old's father was no longer granted overnight parental privileges and visitations had to be monitored.

From a Facebook group that has since been deleted or made private....

- Aaliyah did not have a phone when she went missing. If she somehow ends up with one, it's not one that anyone in her immediate family or anyone in law enforcement is aware of. I know that sounds strange to some, but that's the facts. She did have her Chromebook for school, but it's only possible to track that if she logs in. Her bonus mom gets any notifications if that happens.

**********UPDATE!!**********
- Aaliyah DID have a phone; it has been determined that she had a burner phone when she left. Someone knowing held back information, lied to the police multiple times, then finally broke and acknowledged the existence of the phone. The phone was tracked out of state, and the police are following up every lead.
******************************

- Aaliyah has a grandmother in the southwest area of Palm Beach County, Florida. Her boyfriend also lives near her grandmother. They are in the Boynton Beach area. She has spent a considerable amount of time with her boyfriend in person. Her grandmother provided transportation for both of them throughout the course of their relationship.

- The boyfriend's mother has confirmed that he has been at home with his mother since the beginning of this.

- We do not know if she was adbucted or if she left of her own devices. For this reason, she does not fit the criteria for Amber Alerts, and it is why Indiana has issued a Silver Alert instead. If it is found that she was abducted, she will be upgraded to Amber at that time.

- There has been a lot of misinformation spread around on Instagram, and some recordings that have been spread around out of context. Know that the misinformation that suggests any abuse or substances in the home is patently false. As far as the out-of-context recordings, those are personal family issues that were not the world's business to know and have nothing to do with Aaliyah's case.

- Aaliyah moved in with her father just over a month ago, as so ordered by a judge. She was adjusting very well, and was very much cared for.

- Her parents co-parent very successfully.

- Community searching has taken place and continues to take place. All four of Aaliyah's parents have been searching every day that she's been gone.

- Any and all cameras that can be checked, have been checked. Any that cannot be accessed by civilians is being checked by law enforcement.

So a 14 year old that lives in Indiana has a boyfriend that lives in Florida that lives near the grandmother and the grandmother is facilitating visits between them? Am I reading that right?
I am reading it as she just moved in with her dad, as ordered by a judge, yet it is claimed the parents did co-parenting great but the parents are both in Indiana so they must have been only co-parenting only in the recent few weeks because it sounds like prior she was all the way down in Florida with grandma and a boyfriend. I assume that was recent and just prior to moving in with dad...

Then we have the burner phone tracked out of state... Which I take to mean she did not head for her mother's.

Not judging just going by what family apparently said above.

I pray this all has to do with the family or boyfriend and the situation and she did not fall prey to someone else willing to take her to Florida or that she met online and met up with or something.

Still missing after a month.
