Police seek missing Monterey Park teen last seen riding bike to family member's home

Authorities are asking for help to find a missing 15-year-old who was last seen Tuesday evening in Monterey Park.

Alison Jillian Chao left her home in the 200 block of North Ynez Avenue Tuesday at about 5:30 p.m., police said. She was on the way to visit a family member in nearby San Gabriel, but never arrived at the home.

Annie Chao, the mother of Alison, described her daughter as bubbly, upbeat and full of energy. Alison was last seen on a Ring camera heading out from her father's home around 5:30 p.m.

“She took her bike from her dad's house and rode down the driveway, headed towards her aunt's house in San Gabriel and never made it there," said Annie. "It was really hard to comprehend. You know, I don't think your mind can understand what's happening in that moment. I just, it's been a lot of sleepless nights.”

At the time, she was wearing a purple t-shirt, black shorts and dark shoes. Alison was riding a blue mountain bike and carrying a black backpack.

Family members described her as an Asian female, about 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weighing 96 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Annie and her sisters have been posting flyers at local businesses - hoping someone has information to help police.

Southern California girl, 15, vanishes while riding bike to relative’s home

Family members are growing increasingly desperate in their search for a 15-year-old Monterey Park girl who disappeared while riding her bike to a relative’s home on Tuesday.

Allison Jillian Chao was last seen on Ring video on the evening of July 16 riding a blue GT mountain bike from her father’s house in the 200 block of North Ynez Avenue, headed for her aunt’s house in San Gabriel less than four miles away.

She never arrived.

“The more time that goes on, the scarier it gets,” Allison’s mother, Annie, told KTLA’s Rachel Menitoff on Friday, fighting back tears. “I’m afraid the public will lose interest, and it will be harder to find her. There’s less evidence.”

Annie Chao says her daughter is a straight-A student entering her junior year at Mark Keppel High School and has no history of running away. She has made no contact with friends, and there’s been no activity on social media, Chao said.

Family and friends have been canvassing the surrounding area and posting “Missing” signs, hoping that someone will come forward with information regarding Allison’s whereabouts.

“I haven’t slept in days, and it’s just every parent’s worst nightmare,” said Chao.

Praying of course.

This doesn't sound good however. Straight As, no history of running away. Sounds like my and dad are divorced as it mentions leaving her father's home. Doesn't mean anything just noting.

I'd assume she had a cell phone with her if riding alone and most parents would want her to take one in such a circumstance. Where's that and the activity there I wonder.

We can hope I guess, she is a teen and going to the aunt's was a cover story to get out of the home. That's scary though too, meeting up wtih the wrong person maybe? You know if she's Straight As in high school and well behaved, it isn't unheard of for some kids like that to tire of the perfection when a teen, interest in boys comes and all the toher stuff we all know of. I only say this to have HOPE because otherwise it doesn't sound good. Been a week almost already.

It's not a judgment but we are clearly in a day and age you just can't let them go anywhere, particularly alone. And that's sad, it really is. And very unfair.

This would be absolutely broad daylight and I'd think someone had to have seen something if someone snatched her, hit her with a car and then grabbed her, that kind of thing.

Knocked her off her bike even on foot and drug her into a home or somewhere, if that was the case, I'd think they would have found her.

So maybe there is some hope.

The map looks like this route is all city and no rural area... Meaning again, I'd think someone would have seen something if foul play while en route...5:30 I';d also think a busy time of day...

Well. Where often I have an opinion, who knows who is telling the truth here. There truly are some where I won't assume. Or form an opinion. This is one for the moment. Teenagers can be hard, and really act out, and divorced parents can be played and the more amenable not so strict one can win out.

It seems like she ran away based on this recent stuff. She's with someone though. Then.

Search intensifies for missing Southern California girl, 15

Family, friends and concerned strangers are ramping up their search for a 15-year-old Monterey Park girl who vanished while riding her bike to a relative’s home last week.

Allison Chao was last seen on security video around 5:30 p.m. on July 16 when she left her father’s house in the 200 block of North Ynez Avenue and started riding a blue mountain bike toward her aunt’s home in San Gabriel, roughly three miles away.

The trip should have taken about 20 minutes. However, around 8 p.m., Allison’s aunt called her father to say she hadn’t arrived, family members said.

“If she ran away, which I don’t think she would – she’s not like that, just come home,” pleaded Annie Chao, Allison’s mother. “It’s going to be okay. I just want to make sure that you’re safe. I just want to find her.”

Monterey Park Police said they were working with the family, reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing potential witnesses, but paused to investigate tips they received since the family made a public plea to help find her.

Among the developments was a video showing Allison riding her bike in El Sereno roughly an hour after she left her father’s home.

Okay. She is 15 and heads towards the aunt's and to fool the cops, I don't think she's capable of fooling the cops easily on her own. Having family maybe help do so, more likely. But again it would depend on what I think LE already is onto.

This is sounding more and more like a custody thing and battle and in the midst is the judge's order and deadline and who knows if that was fair/right.

And as awful as that is, it Is good as it would seem more likely then that she's at least alive.

To me it sounds like neither side should be allowed to be parenting this girl. It is interesting she disappeared and was allowed to ride bike to her aunt's when dad was under order to in short order turn her over.

I guess she may have taken off on her own but he is the parent and let her go and there was an order he was to abide by...

Let's hope it is something relating to all this as again at least she'd be alive and that she didn't take off with someone bad or meet up with, and didn't do anything to herself. Even then, it seems as if both sides perhaps need to seriously be under some rules and that she too may need some help. Again, hard to know what the truth is here but both sides sound extreme in one direction or the other.

It seems far less likely due to all this that someone out of the blue just abducted her or some such. So that's good but the rest of the mess of the family is still a mess. One side says she is well behaved and obedient and straight A and the other side says she is mentally ill and not so. Judge agrees with latter side. Clearly SOMETHING is way off here. Is her behavior that different with each? Is the judge agreeing with the right side? Is she acting out and playing both sides to get her way?

I just pray she's alive and then well, where it goes from there it sounds like to me is still something that needs some serious help.

I have to point out one thing I forgot to and it was about grandma saying a 15 year old can decide things for herself but not if she is declared mentally ill. On what planet is that? Does she mean as far as telling a judge maybe who she wants to live with because life decisions and such that absolutely is not true unless Cali has really lost it even further.

First and foremost and ALL that matters though is that she is found safe and alive. The rest is a mess and will likely remain one until sorted out if ever. Sad.

‘It just breaks your heart.' Community rallies to find missing Monterey Park teenager

Monterey Park Police Monday continued to search for a 15-year-old girl who was last seen nearly a week ago as community members, including those who have never met the missing teen, joined the effort to bring her home.

Her family has been posting flyers around the area since she was reported missing. This weekend, volunteers helped in a coordinated search going door to door in the neighborhoods she was spotted riding her bike through.

Anne Chao, the mother of the missing teen, has been urging people to join the search and share any information about her missing daughter with Monterey Park Police.

Another search party was set to meet Monday evening at Fresco Market in Hermon, which is near the last location Alison was spotted. Many volunteers, who don’t know the family, are helping with the efforts to find Alison.

“It's a 15-year-old girl. So I just want to help out,” said Guy Hashimoto, a volunteer with the search group. “Like everybody else, it just breaks your heart. You just want to help out if it's passing out flyers, helping with the search, whatever. Whatever I can do to help out.”

Just moving this forward as I edited and added as I don't think my first one made it clear as to that she very likely may not have done this on her own. His side sounds very likely to have maybe helped her since they were not in agreement at all with the recent order, etc. I don't know that but just thought I didn't make a very clear post and so edited it and then added.

Again, considering the circumstances, I think chances are good she is alive and at first in this case before knowing that, I didn't think so. So that part is a good thing.

Here’s what we know about the 15-year-old girl missing from Monterey Park

Authorities, family members and other loved ones continued the search Tuesday for Alison Jillian Chao, a 15-year-old Monterey Park girl who went missing nearly a week ago after leaving her home on her bike.

Here’s everything we know about the investigation so far.

Where did she go missing and when was she last seen?

Alison left her home in the 200 block of North Ynez Avenue in Monterey Park at 5:32 p.m. July 16. The Monterey Park Police Department initiated a missing person investigation at 9:36 p.m., according to a department news release.

Video footage showed her last known location in the 4400 block of Collis Avenue in El Sereno around 6:23 p.m., police said.

Where was she going and what does she look like?

Alison was riding a blue mountain bike to her aunt’s house in nearby San Gabriel, her family told KTLA.

The trip should have taken 20 minutes but Alison’s aunt called her father around 8 p.m. to let him know she never arrived.

She was last seen wearing a purple T-shirt, black shorts, dark shoes and carrying a black backpack.

What has her family said?

Alison’s mom, Annie Chao, released a statement on Instagram Monday asking the public to continue searching for footage of the area near where Alison disappeared to share with Monterey Park Police.

Chao learned about her daughter’s disappearance from police after Alison’s father reported her missing. Alison was supposed to be brought to Chao’s home Wednesday morning.

“I will continue to work with the police and the community to locate Alison while attempting to maintain her privacy as best as possible,” Chao wrote. “Please remember that Alison is a child. I kindly ask that you do not speculate, attack or post anything that does not assist in the effort to find her.”

What have police said?

Monterey Park Police told KTLA they were working with Alison’s family, interviewing potential witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage.

They have paused to investigate tips they’ve received since Alison’s family asked for the public’s help finding her.

The family of missing Monterey Park teen Alison Chao will give an update on the search for the 15-year-old one week after she disappeared while on a bike ride to a relative's house in the San Gabriel Valley.

The press conference is scheduled for Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in downtown Los Angeles.

Video above is heartbreaking. If you don't have 8 minutes, a summary is cops are there to remove Alison. She is crying and pleading and saying she does not want to go with mom because mom abuses her. And she is supposed to be placed in the psychiatric facility. I just want to give her a hug. I hope she had somewhere safe to go.
