ROCKY FORD, Colo. (KKTV) - The body of a 3-year-old who went missing over the weekend has been found.

After nearly two days of searching on foot, in vehicles, with drones, and with dogs, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) confirmed the little boy was found in an irrigation canal.

Amari Galan went missing early Saturday morning in Rocky Ford, last seen wearing only a diaper. Law enforcement believed he slipped out of the house and walked away on his own. Rocky Ford police said Amari was autistic and considered special needs.

“It is with great sadness that the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, along with Rocky Ford Police, the Otero County Sheriff’s Office and Otero County coroner, can confirm the discovery of a body in an irrigation canal earlier today is that of a 3-year-old boy who was reported missing Saturday morning,” said CBI in a press release. “Law enforcement wishes to share its condolences with the family of Amari Galan.”

Investigators focused on the Caitlin Canal that runs directly behind the child’s home. Search and Rescue found the boy several miles downstream around 5 p.m. Sunday.

I hate that with drownings, child or adult, autistic or not, there's little real way to ever tell if accidental or not and almost always they are ruled accidental.

This one likely is, who knows, but the point is still the same.

It also amazes me how many cases we have seen with autistic children who do attract to water and there is a water source basically in the back yard. I'm not saying people have a choice always as to where they live but there are plenty of places such isn't the case. I'd have to walk for miles to find water even though I live somewhere the Mississippi flows through and has at least four different areas and bridges over it.

If you had a child with autism wouldn't you try to find somewhere not close to any water? Because it seems to me they get out the door and that's where they end up in almost every case we see. I don't recall many cases of such at all until COVID and we then saw a ton of them. I found that odd as well. Perhaps there always have been more but one just wasn't aware or they just weren't covered here much until then. I don't know.

Just observations.

RIP little boy.

I hadn't looked at a map of this place until now. They were basically right on that canal.
Like I said maybe no choice but why if you had a choice and they attract so strongly to water...

We have had a few cases the parent knew such and the parent did it. One at least I remember for sure and it seems a few and in most how can one ever know. I hate drownings even with adults, they are almost always ruled accidental without any true knowledge.

To be fair, at only 3 they might have just been figuring it out.
