Baby Andrew vanished from his home on Tuesday in Miami-Dade County’s Redlands community. Two shootings this week left him an orphan, and his relatives are desperate to find him.

With the help of surveillance video, detectives saw the baby, who was born Jan. 18, in the arms of his father, Ernesto Caballeiro. But when deputies found the 49-year-old father dead on Wednesday in Pasco County, the baby wasn’t there.

Deputies searched the woods in Pasco County. The crime scene was more than 300 miles from where Caballeiro took the newborn baby from his mother while holding an AR-15 rifle, police said.

Caballeiro walked away from his home. Inside, Miami-Dade detectives found the baby’s 40-year-old mother, Arlety Garcia, his 60-year-old maternal grandmother, Isabela Valdes, and his 84-year-old maternal great grandmother, Lina Gonzalez, dead.

“Three generations of brave women were slained protecting the newborn’s life,” Reina Valdes wrote in the family’s GoFundMe account asking for help to cover funeral costs.

Garcia’s 9-year-old daughter survived the bloodshed. Detectives didn’t say if she was in the home during the murders.

The four-bedroom home that turned into a crime scene is in the 21900 block of Southwest 187th Avenue. It’s a quiet Redlands neighborhood surrounded by nurseries and farms.

Garcia’s aunt’s boyfriend Melchor Izquierdo was in tears on Thursday night. He begged whoever may have baby Andrew to return him to a fire department, so he can be with his family.

“He is all we have,” Izquierdo said.

The FBI confirmed Friday that it is assisting in the search for Andrew.

Father from SW Miami-Dade AMBER Alert found dead in Pasco County, newborn still missing

The father who was being sought in connection to an AMBER Alert that was issued for his newborn son has been found dead in Pasco County, deputies have confirmed, but the infant is still missing.

According to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, 49-year-old Ernesto Caballeiro was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Pasco County, just north of Tampa. The whereabouts of Caballeiro’s 1-week old son Andrew are still unknown.

Aerial footage from Pasco County showed the white van investigators said Caballeiro was last seen driving. The 49-year-old’s body was also inside of the van parked on the side of the roadway.

“There were no signs of the baby,” Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco said.

Search for baby Andrew more desperate as sheriff doubts connection to mysterious blonde

The likelihood of finding missing baby Andrew Caballeiro alive grew weaker Thursday when the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office said it didn’t believe the mysterious blonde woman seen near the family’s van had anything to do with the infant’s disappearance.

The likelihood of finding missing baby Andrew Caballeiro alive grew weaker Thursday when the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office said it didn’t believe the mysterious blonde woman seen near the family’s van had anything to do with the infant’s disappearance.

On Wednesday evening, Pasco County Sheriff Chris Rocco said he held out hope Andrew was still alive after a witness told deputies that a blonde woman was seen near the white van the child’s father was believed to have traveled in before killing himself in the woods a few miles off of Interstate 75. If true, the sheriff said directing his statement to the unidentified woman, “Please come forward.”

But by Thursday morning, a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office said the timeline suggested the woman, if she was at the scene, was there several hours after Ernesto Caballeiro, 49, killed himself.

“He was likely deceased by the time that woman was seen near the van,” said lead Pasco County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Amanda Hunter. “Given the timeline, we don’t believe her to be involved.”

Little Andrew, born only last week, became the target of a massive statewide manhunt on Tuesday after police discovered the remains of his mother, grandmother and great-grandmother at Caballeiro’s Redland home just northwest of Homestead. Police suspect Caballeiro shot them with a high-powered rifle, then fled north toward Pasco with Andrew.

Miami-Dade police were led to the home at 21941 SW 187th Ave. after the brother of Andrew’s mother called police because he’d been unable to reach his sister.

Detectives knew almost immediately that Caballeiro was the killer, according to law enforcement sources, because surveillance video showed him arriving home just after 10 a.m. Tuesday, then leaving about an hour later. And the footage appeared to show him holding his AR-15 rifle and the newborn child.

The women killed were identified Wednesday as Arlety Garcia-Valdes, 40, Andrew’s mother, his grandmother Isabela Valdes, 60, and the child’s great-grandmother Lina Gonzalez, 84. Supporters of the slain women have begun fundraising for funeral costs. By Thursday morning, a GoFundMe pagehad already raised more than $10,600.

“Three generations of brave women were slain protecting the newborn’s life,” the page said. “Please pray with us for the safe return of baby Andrew.”

By Thursday police still had not offered a motive for the killings.

Pasco deputies determined that the white van — the subject of a statewide Amber Alert — was parked on the side of a rural road in the town of Blanton between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday. After discovering the vehicle Wednesday, deputies scouring the wooded area with bloodhounds spotted Caballeiro’s body in the woods about 50 yards from the van. He died of a self-inflicted shotgun wound.

An AR-15 was next to his body, sources say.

Inside the van, Hunter said, deputies found some cash, old receipts and a pacifier. There was no child’s car seat and no sign of any digging tool, like a shovel, Hunter said. Holding out hope that the pacifier belonged to Andrew, deputies directed a bloodhound to the object to try and pick up a scent. None was found, leaving Pasco deputies to believe that Andrew likely didn’t make it to Pasco with his father.

“There was no indication the baby was in Pasco,” Hunter said.

Investigators search for missing Miami baby off US-41 in Collier County

Investigators continue to search all possible locations for baby Andrew Caballeiro from Miami.

“We’ve got air boats, we got horses, we got dogs, we got the ground searchers,” said Tim Miller, the founder and director of Texas EquuSearch.

Texas EquuSearch led a search assisted by Peace River K9 Search and Rescue with a team of 30 people to look for baby Andrew in areas off US-41 in Collier County Sunday.

“Time is not on our side,” Miller said. “We’ve got a tiny, tiny baby, and we know the animal, alligator activity and stuff could certainly hinder what we’re doing.”

Police believe Ernesto Caballeiro, Andrew’s father, took him after the baby’s mother, grandmother and great-grandmother were all shot and killed.

Police then found Ernesto dead in Pasco County with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The baby was not with him.

“There was a pacifier. After we swiped it for forensics, we did a search,” officials said during a press conference. “We had the blood hounds out there searching. There was no indication that the child was in the area.”

The search has made its way to Southwest Florida. Those involved in the search include investigators who have assisted in high-profile cases, including the search for Caylee Anthony.

“We’ve had a lot of luck and seeing if we can have a little bit of luck one more time,” Miller said.

The search team is made up of all volunteers, people who are willing to look up and down roads and dig deep into the woods, all with the hopes of finding baby Andrew. Searchers said they planned to look for him until dark.

“We’ll do the best that we can do and leave the results up to God,” a statement shared by all 30 volunteers. “He’s been good for us before, so we’re asking him again”

PASCO COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – There is no evidence that proves a missing Florida newborn is in Pasco County after he was reportedly kidnapped by his father this week, authorities said.

[...]

“After an exhaustive search of the area identified by Sheriff Nocco in last night’s press conference, there has been NO evidence discovered at the scene that confirms Andrew Caballeiro was with Ernesto Caballeiro in Pasco County,” Pasco County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Amanda Hunter said in a press release.

[...]

“The most promising investigative leads to the whereabouts of Baby Andrew remain within Miami Dade County at this time,” Hunter added. “We are following up on any information reported to the Pasco Sheriff’s Office and are working closely with the Miami Dade Police Department to ensure all leads are thoroughly investigated.”

So this baby has been missing a week? We all know no one week old would survive that long unless in someone's care.

One article says the father's body was in his van and another says 50 yards from his van.

I don't know how one would ever find a one week old baby if he took it into woods or some such thing.

If anyone had the baby and were not involved, one would think they would turn the baby over.

I will never understand minds that work as this man's. Such a needless tragedy and only to kill himself and probably this baby as well. Why?

The family of a missing newborn whose father was found dead in an apparent suicide following a triple murder in southwest Miami-Dade has hired a private detective to aid in the search.

Family members of little Andrew Caballeiro made the trip from Cuba to southwest Miami-Dade to gather gather belongings inside the boy's home Monday.

Funerals planned for Tuesday.

Investigators search canal for missing AMBER Alert infant who vanished after family members found dead

Authorities continue to search for a missing month-old baby who has not been seen since his mother, grandmother and great-grandmother were found dead in their Miami home late last month.

NBC Miami reports that earlier this week, Miami-Dade Police searched a canal that runs along a road connecting Tamiami north of Everglades City in connection to the missing infant. Search crews visited the canal on Tuesday, along with a subsequent search on Wednesday involving a dive team, but they reportedly did not find any sign of the baby boy.

Cadaver dogs help in search for Florida baby missing since triple murder of family

It's been over a week and baby Andrew Caballeiro has not been found.

The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office has sent K-9 units to Collier County to assist in the search for the newborn. The dogs are specifically trained to be able to search for human remains.

Photos show the dogs searching the ground and water at Everglades National Park.

The FBI recently joined in the massive search for baby Andrew, who police say was abducted by his father, Ernesto Caballeiro. They believe Ernesto murdered Andrew's mother, Arlety García Valdés, grandmother Isabel Valdés González, and great grandmother Lina González Licor.
