Authorities say a North Carolina man wanted for sex crimes against minors is wanted in Texas in connection with an active Amber Alert with three of his five children.

The Medina County Sheriff’s Office says Jonathan Wright was traveling with his wife and five children when their car broke down. The family took off on foot, deciding to live off the land. Wright’s wife and his two older children were seen walking to a store in Rio Medina, Brown said. That’s when a deputy stopped them and found out the family was on the run.

So the whole family was on the run, but nobody knew they were on the run until mom and 2 kids were picked up walking?
Presumably dad has the other 3 on FOOT somewhere, since the vehicle broke down? They "decided to live off the land"...with five kids???
Why did they split up? Is that why mom was walking to a store...because they were "living off the land" and had nothing? Does dad know mom was picked up? I guess he figured it out when she didn't return... Guessing mom isn't giving up the location of their little adventure? Can't be too far from where they were walking...

The wife then told police Wright has multiple warrants out of Mooresville, North Carolina, for sex crimes against minors. Brown said Wright’s children are not associated with those warrants.

Authorities searched an area of land on FM 2676 between CR 366 & 271. The family has been known to camp out in the woods.

Brown says it’s time for the younger children to get to safety with their mother and older siblings.

“My understanding, his kids think their dad hung the moon. Well, he needs to step up and let them be in a safe place while he goes and fights his own battle,” he said.

*(Perhaps the Mother didn't know where they went?)

$5,000 reward offered for info on three Hondo children believed to be with their father on foot

The U.S Marshalls are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the whereabouts and safe return of the children, according to a statement from the Medina County Sheriff's Office.

The Wright children still haven't been found as of Wednesday evening.

Reward offered in case of three siblings missing from Medina Valley County

Medina County Sheriff’s deputies are searching for a man wanted on out-of-state warrants and his three children. The U.S. Marshals announced Wednesday night they are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the safe location of the family.

Wright was last seen in the area around County Road 366 and FM 2676 in Hondo. The sheriff’s office believes they could be walking in the Rio Medina or Castroville area.

“He’s got to be getting desperate, tired, hungry. They have no phone, no transportation, they don’t know anybody here,” Sheriff Randy Brown tells KENS 5.

After their car broke down—Sheriff Brown says they spent three weeks camping out, although it’s not clear how long they may have been in South Texas.

People living in the Settler’s Pass neighborhood believe Wright’s wife was seen in the area days ago.

Sheriff Brown said the mother was with her two teenage boys at the time.

“She said they had been living in the woods and her husband is wanted…She’s still in a safe place and she will not leave until she has her babies back with her,” Sheriff Brown said the mother is a victim herself.

Sheriff Brown says many resources are being used for the investigation. Helicopters are in the air and deputies are driving on the ground to search for the man and children.

“He needs to turn himself in. He needs to let these kids get back with their mother. That’s the biggest thing. He needs to step up and be a dad, quit worrying about his freedom,” Sheriff Brown said.

I was thinking that he had mom walk to the store because he was afraid that he would get recognized.
