Amber Alert triggered for 11-year-old Audrii Cunningham, who may have been abducted, Texas DPS says

Texas authorities are working on an active investigation for a missing 11-year-old girl from Livingston.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Audrii Cunningham was last seen at about 7 a.m. on Feb. 15 in the 100 block of Lakeside Drive in Polk County.

Her family first reported Audrii missing at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday when she didn't arrive home on the school bus. The investigation then discovered that Audrii never got on the school bus that morning.

According to Lt. Craig Cummings with Texas DPS, investigators are actively talking with persons of interest in the case. They have search boats in the area and are bringing in dogs and additional equipment.

In a press conference on Friday afternoon, Lt. Cummings described the situation as an "all-hands-on-deck investigation." The FBI is assisting the Texas Rangers, the Polk County and San Jacinto County sheriff's offices.

DPS refused to give any further specifics about how Audrii may have vanished. They are talking with persons of interest. Audrii's family is said to be fully cooperating with authorities.

"The focus right now is on bringing Audrii home," Lt. Cummings said.

Adding that "no tip is too small," authorities urge anyone who may have seen Audrii to contact the Polk County Sheriff's Office at 936-327-6810.

Persons of interest being investigated after Amber Alert issued of missing 11-year-old Audrii Cunningham

Several persons of interest are being investigated in the disappearance of 11-year-old Audrii Cunningham, according to officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety.

All agencies, including the FBI and Texas Rangers, have joined the Livingston Police Department in the search for Audrii who was last seen at her home in the 100 block of Lakeside Drive in Livingston on Feb. 15 at 7 a.m.

On Friday, a search was launched in San Jacinto County near the Lake Livingston dam. Investigators would not give details on why they are searching in this specific area but says they are actively following leads in this case.

The location of the dam is several miles away from where Audrii was last seen.

KPRC 2 reached out to Audrii’s school to see if an alert system is in place to notify parents when a child does not attend homeroom first thing in the morning.

According to Creekside Elementary, school officials have a parent notification system and a message was sent.

During Friday’s news conference, DPS said they have several persons of interest being investigated. They are also following leads in this case.

Officials are working with Crime Stoppers to get an reward issued.

DPS officials said there are no ongoing threats to the community.

Search ending for tonight. Public should stay away. Additional resources tomorrow.
FBI is involved.

Notable QUESTIONS:
Are you able to confirm who Audrii was last seen with? Not releasing that now. Working on that type of info.
Any evidence that you've found that confirms you're searching the right spot? This is a location of interest. That's why we have dogs, boats, etc. here.
Are you searching other areas or talking to other people? Yes, we have POIs in this case, and we have been at other locations. Our investigative efforts are here now.
The CARD team was requested, why? That's a question for the FBI. But it's typical to request all resources. It's a tool.
Do police believe she was abducted? That term implies that but we're not drawing any conclusions right now. Still a lot of info and leads to follow.
How many POI? Not releasing that.
Could there be charges coming tonight? Don't know, but the DA and Sheriff are here working with us.
Why are you searching here? We can't provide a lot of info/details on that right now. Trying to protect the investigation.
A lot of questions remain unanswered but our first priority is the investigation.
Is the family still being cooperative? Yes. We appreciate them and the community.

It’s also interesting that they said they have multiple persons of interest. I’ll go check out that Facebook now.

ETA: after reading this, it reminds me of a girl who went missing in Hanford, California decades ago. I was living in the area at the time. It happened to be some guy that was living in a camper in their driveway. I’m not saying that’s what’s going on here, but that’s the gist of the conversation over on Facebook.

‘This is the stuff you see on TV:’ Mother of missing 11-year-old Audrii Cunningham pleads for safe return amid search

The mother of 11-year-old Audrii Cunningham, whose disappearance Thursday prompted the issuance of an Amber Alert, shared what she knew about the search for her daughter Friday.

“We would like to have her come home, it’s not like her to just run off or disappear, she has a lot of loving family, she has so many people that love her and adore her,” said Cassie Matthews.

“We have no leads so we are grasping at any string, any signs, anything in general,” Matthews said.

She said they originally started the search behind Audrii’s home, where she lives with her father, but that hasn’t been verified by law enforcement.

“Search began in the wood line behind her home because it leads to the state park, now she is known to like to explore the woods, she likes to look at the little animals,” Matthews said.

According to Matthews, Audrii stays with her father and her grandmother.

“Hard is an understatement, this is the stuff you see on TV and you can only imagine what the family and the parents are going through and there’s not words for it. There is not one feeling you feel, its a roller coaster, you are broken, you are mad, you are empty and right now I am empty,” Matthews said. “She has so many opportunities ahead of her, and she deserves every right to be able to reach those opportunities.”

Multiple law enforcement agencies are assisting in the search for Cunningham, including the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, and the FBI.

“I am not going to be the same unless my baby is returned to me and neither is her family, any of us, any of her friends, any of the people that she has been connected to in the community,” Matthews said.

11-year-old Audrii Cunningham's mom says missing girl's backpack may have been found in search area

Investigators paused their search for 11-year-old Audrii Cunningham on Friday evening near the Lake Livingston Dam in San Jacinto County.

It's several miles from Audrii's home, but investigators won't say why they're searching the area other than calling it a "location of interest." It's one of several locations they said they searched on Friday.

"I'm being told that they have possibly found her backpack in this area, but no signs of her," Audrii's mother, Cassie Matthews, said.

Audrii was last seen around 7 a.m. Thursday on Lakeside Drive, not far from the home she shares with her father.

Neighbors say they usually see her walking to the bus stop with a dog, but that doesn't appear to have happened Thursday.

"She was allegedly dropped off at her bus stop, and later, on we come to learn that she never even made it on the bus," Matthews said.

Investigators won't say who Audrii was last seen with, saying it could compromise their investigation. But they say they have multiple persons of interest.

"There's additional information out there. We're just not releasing it. That's what the investigators are using to follow up on," Lt. Craig Cummings with the Texas Department of Public Safety said.

Law enforcement paused the search efforts for Audrii on Friday at about 5 p.m. because they said it was getting dark. The search will resume Saturday around daybreak and extra resources will be on hand to help, Cummings said.

"We will have deputies here to protect this location and the investigative efforts that have been uncovered up to this point," Cummings said. "We are asking the public to stay away from this area."
