Details of Disappearance
Laspisa was last seen in Castaic, California on August 30, 2013. He was attending Sierra College in northern California and was driving home to visit his family in Laguna Niguel, California at the time of his disappearance. He called his mother at 2:00 a.m., saying he was too tired to drive and was going to stop his car and sleep. He said he'd call her when he woke up.

Laspisa's beige 2003 Toyota Highlander was found abandoned in a ravine off Lake Hughes Road near Castaic Lake a few hours later, lying on its side, the rear window smashed. His cellular phone, wallet, laptop computer and other belongings were still inside the vehicle but there was no sign of him. An extensive search of the area turned up no clues. He has never been heard from again.

Laspisa's loved ones stated he was unfamiliar with the area he disappeared from, didn't hitchhike and didn't enjoy outdoor pursuits. He's originally from Illinois and graduated Naperville Central High School in 2012. His case remains unsolved.

In my opinion he has seen or heard something that he should not have seen and has been made to disappear; question: did the police ever check out Castaic Lake?
Yes, they did.

I always think the simplest explanation is the most likely, that is, an accident. So much has been written on social media about how he wanted to get away from his family, but surely with his red hair and green eyes he would be so recognisable. I would love to think he is alive, but I think the awful truth is he is in the lake by accident.

This reminds me of a young man from my area who disappeared on his way home from work one night. It had been days and there was no trace of him.

Turns out, he had tried a new route home and slid off the road, down a grassy embankment, and into some woods. Not far from the road, but out of sight. He became disoriented and must have wandered those woods,or maybe slept near his car. He was eventually found, dehydrated and exhausted but alive.

Poor Bryce may have been disoriented as well,

I've been interested in quite a few cases where there's been an accident or a car broke down and the person disappeared. The Harlem Globetrotter case is one of them and I can't remember his name off the top of my head, and there's also Maura Murray.

PODCAST

In Episode 7, Flowers and Prawat discuss the case of missing person Bryce Laspisa. After acting strangely for many days before his disappearance, the 19-year-old mysteriously crashed his car two hours away from his family’s home in Laguna Niguel, California, and was never seen again.

Bryce Laspisa started acting strangely on August 27, 2013. Just a couple of days into his sophomore year, friends started to become concerned about his unusual behavior. He planned a trip home to visit his parents and what should have been a 7 hour journey turns into 30-hours of mystery that leave police and Bryce’s family baffled when on August 30th at 5:30 am, Bryce’s vehicle is found overturned with no sign of Bryce.

Mysterious Disappearance Story of 19-Year-Old College Boy Bryce Laspisa

Bryce Laspisa, by all research, was a normal college lad. He was young, talented, and charismatic. As the only child of Michael and Karen Laspisa, the family had absolutely closely-knit. But the trajectory of red-headed Bryce’s life would soon take a harsh and extreme twist.

Rather than cheering their son’s achievements in school, Bryce’s parents now spend each and every day asking the same question: What happened to our son?

Nine Years After Going Missing At Castaic Lake, Still No Trace Of Bryce Laspisa

“Aug. 30th marks 9 years since we lost Bryce,” read a statement from Laspisa’s family posted to the Find Bryce Laspisa Facebook page. “Still no answers or closure. Bryce, you are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.”

More recently, there was an alleged sighting of Laspisa in Missoula, Montana, according to the Find Bryce Laspisa Facebook page.

Detective Ethan Smith looked into the sighting. On April 25, 2022, he was able to find the man, who he said could be Bryce’s twin, according to the Facebook page.

“I was able to verify his identity and it’s not Bryce,” Smith said in an update. “I believe the photo being circulated of the young man on the bike in Missoula who looks like Bryce is this guy, but sadly, it isn’t Bryce. I was astounded by the resemblance between the two.”

I feel so bad for the families when they hear encouraging news, Only to be let down.

Unfortunately I believe he is close to the area he crashed. Got out, But was disoriented and died as a result of injuries or another accident like drowning. I know they searched the lake, But it wouldn't be the first time they didn't find someone that was in fact in the water where they previously searched. I can't see him making it out of the ravine to the road to have a passer-by pick him up. They would have come forward. And I don't think someone picked him up only to take advantage and kill him. That seems very unlikely to me. So I think the answer is in searching more.

I saw the recent activity here and didn't know the case and on hitting where I landed on posts when I came in, my first thought was how many of these do we see where the vehicle is found, sometimes everything in it (apparently anyhow--like cell phone, wallet and more)... Maura came to mind, Jason Landry and so very many more. There was just one in the last few days and the kid was arrested for murder but the first we had heard of him was he was missing, smashed cell phone, vehicle found, a bit of blood, etc....

Some or many of such cases I see put down to drugs, excited delirium etc. but I don't jump to that in most... Especially when they don't find a body but find a vehicle with things that would make one think they either were abducted, are lost and will never be found, etc. MAKE ONE THINK. Not that THAT is what happened... Either there are a ton of abductors out there of adult males (and females) that just HAPPEN to be waiting on a route home which they couldn't have known someone was going to be traveling, etc., etc., OR many or SOME of them are staged... OR ALL must be on drugs but then why do they NEVER find a body. The MOST likely scenario in my opinion is they are staged and/or someone is trying to get away from a situation. Not sure in each one but a distinct possibility in most. We also in the last year or two have seen many who have walked away from their life and WERE found but they couldn't or didn't know how to get away from controlling parents, etc. even if a young adult... And Covid only caused more of it imo.

The girl working at I think Home Depot who they tracked to a bus station. Eventually found in NYC. Mom worried to no end. There was one in Florida she went on a bus to a park or some such and never came home. Found alive. Felt life was too controlled by parents it seemed. Most say nothing further after found in the news but that's what they are... Pressure from school or life is another. In trouble yet another... The woman and daughter in Wisconsin a year or so ago, dad/husband was too controlling and then divorce commenced. Both were alive, well and safe but being searched for...

I don't know a thing about this case, haven't read all, but it sounds like a classic one where he might be alive somewhere...
