FBI joins search for missing Lower Paxton Township teen

The FBI has joined the search for Destiny Snyder, the 13-year-old who went missing from her Lower Paxton Township home on Saturday morning.

Jenna Snyder, Destiny’s mother, woke up to find her daughter missing from her bedroom. She found a written note in her room but no sign of where she might be.

The family believes she left her home willingly on foot, but are unsure what happened afterward.

Bloodhound dogs were brought in to track her scent, but it went cold at a bench near her home.

“There was a chance she was maybe taken by car. She may know who took her and went willingly but we don’t know for sure,” Synder said.

Destiny’s family says she left with her boots, money, and a survival knife — which they think she took for protection. Her family says she has been dealing with mental health issues.

They also believe Destiny may be somewhere near the woods after they received a possible lead that she was heading towards the Poconos. Her family notes that she enjoys being in the woods.

Although Destiny is a minor, there has to be a reasonable belief by law enforcement that an abduction has occurred to issue an Amber Alert. According to Lower Paxton Township Police, at this time, the incident does not meet the criteria. Police say if circumstances change, an Amer Alert will be issued.

“Des, if you’re watching, we just want you home, we love you and we’ll get through this, just come home,” her mother said.

The family is asking that people check their home security footage and contact Lower Paxton Township Police with any information.

FBI joins search for ‘creative, fun-loving’ 13-year-old missing since Saturday

The FBI and Pennsylvania State Police have joined the search for Lower Paxton teenager Destiny Snyder, whose family is trying to remain optimistic for a safe return days after her disappearance.

Family spokeswoman Nina Weaver said the family and friends of the Central Dauphin East eighth-grader are worried she might hurt herself or be with someone who wants to cause her harm.

Weaver said Snyder was bullied in school “more than any child should ever go through,” and battling mental health issues when she left home Saturday morning, leaving behind a goodbye letter for her family.

“She’s been super overwhelmed as of late,” Weaver said.

Lower Paxton police are investigating, but Weaver and Snyder’s family are ramping up search efforts of their own.

A volunteer search-and-rescue team from Indiana will be arriving in the Harrisburg area within the next day, Weaver said.

What a beautiful girl. Reading that she was bullied breaks my heart. What is wrong with some children who would do such a thing or such even be allowed to go on... I pray that she is found safe.

It is interesting to me that they first posted to the school site. I hope some school bullies have nothing to do with this. Jmo and speculation on why the school site. She left a note and perhaps it gave some indication.

Search for missing Dauphin County teen operating off several tips from the public

Tips have been a significant factor in the search for 13-year-old Destiny Snyder, Lower Paxton police said Wednesday.

On Wednesday, police said two tips related to possible sightings on the Appalachian Trail were investigated by mounted state police units. Police have also received “numerous additional tips” and prioritized them in the investigation.

Investigators are reviewing surveillance video from businesses in the areas of possible sightings, police said.

Unfortunately, none of the tips have resulted in leads on Snyder’s whereabouts, police said.

Officials plan on releasing daily updates as the search progresses.
