Mother of missing Beaverton teen says her daughter is sick and could be in danger

A 16-year-old girl from Beaverton who has been missing since Friday may be in danger because of medical issues and the hot weather, her mother said Monday.

Emmeline Tesch went missing from a park near her home in West Slope on Friday afternoon. Her mother, Jane Kleist-Tesch, said cameras show her daughter at the Sunset Transit Center and going up an elevator at the Oregon Zoo TriMet Max stop.

Kleist-Tesch said family and friends have been searching for Emmeline since Friday. On Monday, they gathered to search Washington Park. She said her daughter has medical issues and the hot weather is concerning.

"It's very crucial that we find her right away," Kleist-Tesch said. "I know that she did not have any food or drink with her, and she is highly unlikely to seek any food or water with her medical condition. Each day she is missing, every hour she is missing, she is likely passed out."

The Washington County Sheriff's Office told KGW that there has been no formal search for Emmeline because they don't have a specific location to search.

"We have listed her as a missing person person in the state-wide law enforcement data system, sent out bulletins to all the agencies in the area and we’re hoping someone on social media may have the tip we’re looking for," said Washington County Sheriff's Deputy Brian van Kleef.

Kleist-Tesch said she needs professionals to help with the search.

"We are left with family and friends to try and find my daughter," she said. "We are not the professionals. It's been very scary and very difficult."

Family says missing teen Emmeline Tesch is in dire need of help

Parents of a missing teenage girl are asking for the public's help to find and bring her home.

Emmeline Tesch, 16, went missing Friday afternoon, July 24, from her home near Ridgewood View Park in the Cedar Mill/West Slope area near Beaverton. She did not have a cell phone with her at the time, according to family.

Tesch's mother, Jane Kleist-Tesch, said her daughter went for a walk to a nearby park to do some reading around 11:40 a.m. Friday. When she didn't return, family combed the area to look for her.

Now, her family is desperate to find the teen.

She was last seen wearing a black fuzzy sweater with black sweatpants, and a gray sweatshirt tied around her waist. Her long hair was up in a bun. She had a purple backpack with her. Tesch is 5 foot 3 with a thin build and light brown hair.

TriMet camera footage shows Tesch boarded a MAX train near her home and got off at the Oregon Zoo stop. Her family suspects she could be in the wooded area near Washington Park or Council Crest in Southwest Portland.

"We live close to the Sunset MAX transit center and they got footage of her at about 12:40 p.m. boarding that MAX and then traveling and getting off at the Washington Park zoo MAX stop," Kleist-Tesch said Sunday. "Around the zoo building they captured some footage that after she got off the MAX, she seemed to be headed toward Highway 26."

Kleist-Tesch said her daughter is medically fragile, and did not have food or water with her when she left. She likely has not eaten or drank anything since her disappearance, and family says they worry she will die if not immediately found.

"She's very ill and her life is in danger; she's at risk," Kleist-Tesch said. "She's 16. She's been sick for quite a while. It's very important we find her right away."

The teen spent part of the last school year hospitalized, her mother said, and didn't have a strong social circle. She previously attended St. Mary's Academy and is slated to continue online schooling through the Beaverton School District this fall. Kleist-Tesch said it's unlikely she went to see a friend and didn't have a boyfriend.

I know her parents say she didn't have a boyfriend and it was unlikely she went to visit a friend. If that's the case I wonder why she went any further than the park she said she was heading to. I'm wondering if it was a regular occurrence for her to go read at this park? With her medical condition(s) why would she go anywhere at all without a cell phone (the only reason I can think of is she couldn't be traced or found easily??)

Maybe she felt like a little space or independence?

This is super scary if she's so medically fragile ! I hope a search organization offers help looking for her, she could be in desperate trouble.

She did go missing this past January as well and was found on the MET (same train she took this time). But without too many close friends and no phone...where did she want to go and why? Just a typical teen (with a medical condition) seeking some space? Possibly. Trying to avoid medical treatment or interventions?

she has a backpack and it appears fairly full. If she's been medically fragile for a while, she's old enough to know she needs at least water, snacks and possibly even meds. That backpack is awfully full for just going to the park to read.

Her parents said she didn't take any food/water and likely would not seek any out. I don't know why. Seems strange. Possibly her medical condition is an eating disorder?

"I know that she did not have any food or drink with her, and she is highly unlikely to seek any food or water with her medical condition."

But I agree about the backpack. If she took a book or two, okay. Maybe some extra clothes?

She has a history of disappearing?

hopefully she is just a teen craving a bit of space and hopefully she is smart enough to take care of herself. Stay safe, Emmeline

Not that it minimizes the need to find her to make sure she is safe, but this is where she was missing from in January

"She was last seen at Providence St. Vincent's Behavioral Health Clinic."

So hopefully, she is just being a rebellious teen.

Behavioral Health isn't like one of those "ranches" or "homes" for troubled teens. It's not a naughty children's place.

They treat eating disorders there. As well as psychiatric issues such as suicidal ideation, severe anxiety, emotional regulation disorders like borderline, etc.

I know what it is, it's that she obviously ran away from treatment prior to this. Were they holding more treatment over her head and she took off? Her treatment was intense enough that she missed quite a bit of school from it. I'm thinking she is just a teen trying to make her own decisions in life. I sure hope she is making good ones now, but they definitely need to know that for sure.
