Amber Alert issued for two brothers​

Albuquerque police are asking for helping locating two brothers who they say were taken by their mother, who did not have custody.

The boys, 3-year-old Elijah, and 6-year-old Javon Covington were allegedly taken from a dental appointment by their mother, Clorisa Renee Covington, on Tuesday just before 11:30 a.m.

According to the release the boys had been removed from their mother’s custody by CYFD.



The Amber Alert notification many received on their phones Tuesday mentioned the mother’s boyfriend is Fabian Gonzales.

Police confirm he’s the same Fabian Gonzales facing charges related to the death of Victoria Martens. He has not been convicted of charges in that case and is still awaiting trial.

Gonzales's attorney says he’s no longer dating the mother of the missing boys and has no idea where she or her sons are now. He added, that Gonzales wears an ankle monitor and authorities know where he is at all times.

KOAT reached out to police about why Gonzales's name was mentioned in the Amber Alert and detectives said they have a reason for including his name but they aren’t sharing the reason at this time.


Statement from Gonzales's attorney:

"Ms. Covington and her two young boys were living with Fabian Gonzales until June 2020 when the criminal court ruled that he could be around children. This ruling was because the prosecution had admitted that he was miles away when Victoria Martens was murdered. Nevertheless CYFD took custody of the boys unless Ms. Covington stopped seeing Mr. Gonzales. As a result they have not seen or talked to one another since. Mr. Gonzales lives and works elsewhere. Because he wears an electronic monitor around his ankle with a GPS tracking device, his whereabouts are known at all times. He has no knowledge what happened to his former girlfriend or her two sons.

Wow that Wiki piece was one of the sickest things I have ever read about so many individuals in my life. However, when one gets to the timeline and lies by the PD one has to hesitate some and wonder what exactly is true in the initial part of the information about the case in the Wiki info and who of all of these sick sounding individuals is actually the one, or were they all?, and then they have some fourth person they are looking for or some such.

I don't know what to make of it all. Clearly there is something more going on behind the scenes here...

Yeah, I don't know. I knew little to nothing about Victoria or that case or him until just reading it the other day. I have read nothing to know how this woman came to be with him so you are probably more up on that. Covington is charged with taking her children, child abuse and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.


Thursday the district attorney asked that Covington be kept behind bars until trial.

A judge said she'll stay locked up for at least a week.

"You will have a hearing within the next week for that pretrial detention to determine if you should be held until your trial setting you have until you have until Feb. 25 of 2021 to either take her to grand jury or have a preliminary hearing on her case so you're not going anywhere at this point Miss Covington your next hearing will be in front of a district court judge OK," said Metro Court Judge Yvette Gonzales.

Covington will be back in court next week for another hearing.

As far as her kids, investigators say they are OK and back in CYFD custody.

So reading between the lines, it sounds as if she used a weapon at the dental office. Add that to likely in front of a six and three year old smh. The only other place it could have occurred was at the motel but it does not sound like there were any incidents there.

Mom accused of kidnapping 2 sons will stay behind bars until trial​

The woman accused of abducting her kids from CYFD custody will stay locked up until her trial. Clorisa Covington is accused of taking her kids from a dentist appointment, whom she doesn’t have custody of. The next day, she and her two young sons were found safe at a motel in northeast Albuquerque.

On Thursday, the state argued Covington is a danger to her children and the community and is a flight risk because she has warrants in other states. “That she does have connections to other states, that she could potentially take the children to another state if she is able to take them the next time she sees them,” said District Court Judge Courtney Weaks. The judge granted the state’s motion to keep Covington behind bars.
