Amber Alert Issued For 2-Year-Old Boy Missing From Waco Park

An Amber Alert has been issued for a 2-year-old boy who went missing in Waco’s Cameron Park.

Police received a call shortly before 2:00 p.m. about a missing child in the park.

The boy’s name is Frankie Gonzalez.

He was last seen in the restrooms near a bridge at the park and was wearing a red Mickey Mouse shirt.

Amber Alert issued for missing Waco 2-year-old last seen in Cameron Park

Officer Garen Bynum with Waco PD says the department received a call around 1:53 p.m. about a missing child in the park, particularly near University Parks and Herring Avenue under the bridge.

The boy's name is Frankie Gonzalez. He was last seen in the restrooms near the bridge and was wearing a red Mickey Mouse shirt.

Officer Bynum says the SWAT Team is searching trails in Cameron Park, while the Waco Fire Department is using rescue boats. The McLennan County Sheriff's Office also brought out its boats and helicopter to help search.

Cameron Park is closed to visitors during the search, according to Waco Parks and Recreation. The search was called off as of 8:30 p.m., and officials plan to continue tomorrow morning.

Not much detail here. First questions are does this park have working cameras? And it seems a bit unusual for a child to be in a park bathroom alone at the age of two, if he was alone that is. No vehicle description and they are searching the park, just an observation, of course they would do that anyhow.

This article says he was near the bathrooms and the splash pad. It sounds like the park is a zoo too as zoo employees helped out it says. So maybe there are cameras...?

I get so tired of the evil in this world. Seems to be a lot of it lately. I wonder how far the church is from the park he was allegedly at.

Oh Lord I hope not, here we go again. Nothing confirmed but the mother's car has been taken.

I also in various articles have seen red Mickey Mouse shirt and gray Mickey Mouse shirt... This article has a shirt found but thought not to be his. A more recent update since the one above I posted.

yeah, that story that was given didn't make a lot of sense.

Well that article was quite the ride.

"Found 2 miles away" - Well crap, maybe he *was* abducted... I thought he may have gone into the water.
"Mom's car impounded" - Oh.

Now mom's been arrested.

Police have also issued an arrest warrant for his mother, Laura Sanchez. Sanchez has been charged with "first degree felony injury to a child."

Police said they discovered that Frankie was never brought to Cameron Park. They think this was a cover up created by mom.

"Frankie did not die of natural causes," Garen Bynum with the Waco Police Department said.

It is pretty sad when one hopes a case does not go the usual route and they always seem to. Makes me quite cynical. The mother apparently did lead them to the dumpster, so I will give her that, not that it helps one bit or change a young life gone. I have thoughts and words but had probably better not voice them. RIP Baby Frankie.

I am getting where I don't believe in stranger abductions too often or jump there hardly ever any more. Does it happen? Of course but it seems pretty rare in the realm of things. If it is a wife, it is generally the husband and if it is a child, it is generally the parent or a step parent or bf or gf of a parent.

According to an affidavit, Sanchez told police her son died while in her care on or around Thursday and she kept the body in her house until Saturday when she disposed of it in the trash bin, the Tribune-Herald reported.

Bynum says Gonzales did not die of natural causes but deferred releasing an exact cause of death pending an autopsy.

One who I believe was an actual stranger abduction is Dulce Alavez. But yes, children (and others) are at the most danger from people close to them.

I was thinking of Dulce today. I think because she also disappeared from a park as this boy was purported to (but didn't).

Yes, I am sure not saying stranger abduction does not happen, we know of many stranger abductions unfortunately but I agree that i think it is more rare than someone close.

The pastor at the church where 2-year-old Frankie Gonzales was found dead said the dumpster will not be used again.

The pastor said the dumpster will be removed, and they will be using another one.

Mother disowns daughter after grandson found dead in dumpster

The mother of a Waco woman accused of killing her two-year-old child disowned her daughter Wednesday.

"I may have had her, but she's not a part of me no more," said Caroline Medina.

Medina's daughter Laura Sanchez, also known as Laura Villalon, 35, led Waco police to a church dumpster Tuesday with her son Frankie Gonzales inside following a frantic overnight search for the boy which led to an Amber Alert being issued Monday.

With bond set at $500,000, Sanchez remained in custody in the McLennan County Jail Wednesday.

Although jail visitation is on hold due to COVID-19, Medina said she wouldn't see her daughter even if she could.

"I don't want to see her at all," Medina told KWTX. "They would have to pull me out of that jail because I would go crazy, I went crazy when I found out that little boy, my grandson, that she put him in the trashcan, I cried, I cried up and down."

Medina said she last saw her grandson last week when her daughter left with him to go to the washateria.

"When she came back over here she didn't have Frankie," said Medina. "She said she left him with a friend."

Medina said she had "no idea" what was going through her daughter's mind, but she believes Frankie's father favored him over her and his sisters.

"Honestly, I think she did it out of jealousy," said Medina.

Frankie Gonzalez, 2, buried a week after mother's arrest in his death

The family of 2-year-old Frankie Gonzalez laid him to rest in a private ceremony Tuesday morning, one week after his mother was arrested on a charge for fatally injuring her child.

In newly released search warrants, police searched Sanchez’s vehicle for evidence of her involvement. The search warrant states Sanchez “admitted in a written confession that she caused injury to the victim which may have led to his death” and “(police believe) a forensic examination of this vehicle was used to transport the corpse of the victim.”

Police swabbed Sanchez’s 2005 red Kia Spectra5 for evidence connected to the death, the search warrant states. A crime scene technician also took samples of the floorboard carpet, took a blood swab from the front driver’s side mirror and removed a diaper bag, four blankets, one pillow case, one shirt, and a purple fitted sheet.

The search warrant states black trash bags, two bottles of bleach and a laundry scent booster item were removed from the car.

The state terminated Laura Sanchez’s parental rights to six children in 2015 for prolonged drug addiction and state child welfare workers opened another investigation of Sanchez two years later after hospital tests showed she used drugs before the birth of a daughter.

It is unclear whether Texas Department of Family and Protective Services child protective services workers had an open case involving Sanchez at the time of Frankie Gonzalez’s death because Associate Judge Nikki Mundkowsky, who presides over Child Protective Services cases, ordered the most recent court filings in Sanchez’s case sealed.

Attempts to ask the judge to unseal a redacted version of the court records have gone unanswered this week.https://www.crimewatchers.net/javascript:void(0)

Well this is new.

Police arrest father of Frankie Gonzales, local boy found dead in dumpster

Waco Police late Wednesday announced the arrest of Lorenzo Gonzalez in connection to the death of his son, Frankie Gonzales, a local toddler found dead in a dumpster after he was reported missing by his mother at Cameron Park.

Gonzalez will be charged with abandoning or endangering a child, police said.

During the course of the investigation, police learned Lorenzo Gonzalez had signed an official agreement with the Department of Family and Protective Services agreeing that he would not leave the children unsupervised with Sanchez “due to risk of harm to the children.”

Police said the father “intentionally left the children alone and unsupervised with Laura in violation of the agreement that was made with the state.:

“This violation ultimately led to the injuries and death of Frankie Gonzalez.”

Siblings of Central Texas toddler found dead in dumpster tested positive for meth

The toddler’s two siblings, who were placed in foster care after the body was found, “tested positive for high levels of methamphetamine, indicating the children were recently in direct contact with the substance,” the arrest warrant affidavit says.

Gonzales got custody of the oldest of the three children he had with Sanchez, Villarrial said, and because he had a good track record was able to let Sanchez have surprise visits with the child.

“We had a father who had no CPS history no drug issues, he kind of did everything to get his child back,” Villarrial said.

“When that happens and he says he is going to protect the children we decided to not terminate her rights in regard to that child,” he said.

“We make decisions based on the best information we have at that time,” he said.
