Missing 10-year-old's mother found dead, father suspect in homicide, abduction

Police are still searching for a 10-year-old boy, last seen in Wilmer, about 16 miles southeast of Dallas. Police believe the boy is with his father, who is a suspect in a homicide.

According to Wilmer Police, the suspect Juan Aguilar Cano abducted his son Ian Aguilar from a home in the 20 block of Oakdale Street in Wilmer Tuesday morning.

Sources tell CBS News Texas' JD Miles the 10-year-old's mother is the murder victim mentioned by law enforcement. The boy's mother was found by her daughter at the family's home on Oakdale in Wilmer. That's the same location from which the boy was taken, police said Tuesday night. There are no previous calls of service at the home, according to sources.

Cano's car, a tan Chevy Tahoe was located in Houston Wednesday, but Cano and the boy were not found.

Law enforcement believes Ian is in immediate danger.

Mother of child abducted from Wilmer found dead, father’s car found abandoned

An Amber Alert was issued Tuesday night for a 10-year-old who was abducted in Wilmer.

10-year-old Ian Aguilar was abducted by his father, 38-year-old Juan Aguilar-Cano, police believe. Cano is the subject in a homicide investigation.

According to KDFW, a relative found the boy’s mother dead inside a mobile home in Wilmer Tuesday afternoon. Law enforcement found her when doing a welfare check after no one had heard from the woman in several days.

“It was initially reported as a welfare concern and after some investigation we found that a homicide had been committed. Immediately, our concern was for the 10-year-old boy and his safety,” said Wilmer Police Chief Victor Kemp.

By the time the police arrived at the scene, the boy and Aguilar-Cano were no longer there. Police then issued an Amber Alert for the boy’s abduction. They said that they believe he is in grave danger.

The car Aguilar-Cano was driving was found in Houston Wednesday morning, but neither he nor the child were anywhere to be found.

According to KDFW, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office is handling the murder investigation, as Wilmer PD does not have any homicide detectives.

Another cretin smh who murders and then kidnaps.

Praying the boy is found safe, the cretin not so much so.

Let me guess, they took a bus. Or is he such a brainiac the vehicle was just staged there to throw LE off...

What is WRONG with some of these people? It is so constant it doesn't even shock most of us anymore.

Oh hey just another murder, no big news.

Vigil held in Wilmer for a missing boy at the center of AMBER Alert and his murdered mother

Purple and blue balloons, flowers, and dozens of candles quickly filled the sidewalk in front of the home of Ian Aguilar.

Aguilar is the child at the center of the AMBER Alert out of the City of Wilmer.

On Tuesday evening, neighbors at Knollridge Mobile Home Park in Wilmer gathered to pray for the safe return of the 10-year-old and the eternal rest of his mother, 48-year-old Zuleika Lopez-Arzate.

Consuelo Camargo attended the prayer vigil with her daughters and granddaughters. She lives across the street from the family on Oakdale Street.

“On Sunday she came over to pay me for the week,” Camargo said.

Camargo said she would take Ian to and from school several times a week.

"She asked me to take Ian to school on Monday,” Camargo said. “She told me she would pick him up from school to take him to his therapy."

However, that never happened.

Camargo described Ian’s mother as a kind, social and hard-working mother who will be dearly missed.

In a statement, the City of Dallas said, “Zuleika Arzate-Lopez was a beloved member of the Development Services family and her department is grieving the news of her passing. As a dedicated City of Dallas employee for 19 years, her presence is sorely missed. Our deepest condolences are with her family and we pray that Ian will be found safe and unharmed.”

AMBER Alert: Dallas County boy believed to be in Mexico, away from father, police say

Wilmer police say they believe the 10-year-old boy at the center of an AMBER Alert issued earlier this week is with family in Mexico and no longer in danger.

Investigators said Ian Aguilar was abducted from his home in Wilmer and his mother, Zuleika Lopez, was killed.

In a news release on Friday, Wilmer police say that they have been in communication with Aguilar's family and say they believe he is in Mexico and not with his father.

"We now have hope and reason to believe Ian is okay, our investigation continues, and will continue, until we have absolute verification Ian is not in danger," Wilmer police said in a news release.

Wilmer PD went on to say that they hope Ian will be reunited with family in the U.S. so they can see him and know he is safe.

Despite the positive update, Wilmer police say the AMBER Alert for Aguilar is still active.

Investigators did not mention the boy's father's whereabouts in their update.

Happy to hear he is alive and safe and I guess compared to waiting until there is proof, they told the public but on the flip side it is we "believe, and again on another tihng we "believe". These are not statements much less confirmed safety. Believe him not with dad. Etc. With family in Mexico. Well where IS dad and how can they know that or know this child won't be with dad again or with dad present?

I do see they say until they have ABSOLUTE veriification he is aafe. And they "hope" he can be reunited with family in the US just so they can see he is safe. Mean like come for a visit of an hour?

There is a woman DEAD, perp not in custody and likely father of this boy with whereabouts unknown. What is this? Taking his family's word for it or perhaps Mexican authorities are taking his family's word for it?

I don't think I have EVER seen such a MAYBE kind of thing with no answers or seeing the child or knowing where the perp is.

I am glad he is alive. Glad he is safe. IF all the "I believes' are true and even if they ARE, the likel perp/dad is still free and whereabouts unknown no?

And mom is dead NO?

And they say he is no longer in danger... Based on WHAT?

Alot of times you see a non custodial parent abducting a child. But not usually to the point where they murder the other parent. It has happened rarely. So I agree that if the father killed the mother. He is in danger. If someone can kill. They could kill again.

It says he isn't with him but with another relative or so it sounds but I still say they can't KNOW that unless he is in Mexican custody and they don't say that either and IF he is, why don't they say so? Interesting they say boy is Hispanic but they say dad is white. So does dad even have relatives in Mexico or are they mom's relatives?? He'd flee there to see her relatives when he just killed her? It isn't adding up for me. I'm not doubting he and the boy are there, just the "facts" aren't geling.

And yes if he is NOT in Mexican custody, this boy is NOT safe and I don't see how they can claim that.
