Well what happened between Monday and today? Did he escape custody?

It is weird. You would think this story and the fact that the U.S. Marshals are looking for him and his accomplice would be front page news across Indiana. It isn't. Not even in the Indystar. The Anderson paper is subscribers only and you have to pay to read anything beyond the headlines. I am guessing, and it is just a guess, that he escaped, didn't show up for sentencing,or they went looking for him after being indicted and he wasn't there.

Hopefully the Marshals tipped off the Las Vegas police in NV. A lot of wanted criminals from around the nation flee to Vegas. The LVMP is very good at catching them. I took a criminology class years ago and one of the things the professor said was a lot of pedos flee to Florida because their laws regarding this sort of crime are very lax and not stringent enough. FL also has a number of SKs operating there.

U.S. Marshals offers reward for wanted former Madison County councilman accused of child molestation

The U.S. Marshals Service is offering a $25,000 reward as they continue to look for a former Madison County councilman accused of 18 counts of child molestation.

This comes as the U.S. Marshals and Indiana State Police continue to search for 56-year-old Steven Sumner. Sumner, a former preacher of a local church, resigned from his seat on the Madison County Council in May 2021 after charges were filed against him in December 2020.

According to previous reports, Sumner is accused of performing sex acts on a girl and inappropriately touching her. Images and photos of a nude girl were also reportedly found on his phone. Sumner was previously thought to be in the Gaitlinburg, Tennessee area.

The U.S. Marshals Service states that Sumner is considered a “flight risk, suicidal and should be considered armed and dangerous.” They also state that Sumner reportedly has access to a “support network which could provide him money, transportation, fake identification and ways to support him.”

Private citizen puts up $25,000 reward for Madison County fugitive accused of child sex crimes

Big money is being offered to catch a fugitive and former county councilman accused of child sex crimes.

And it turns out that $25,000 reward is being ponied up by a private citizen — not police or the U.S. Marshals.

Steven Sumner is at the top of Madison County's most wanted list, and law enforcement says cash may finally lead to his capture.

But days after announcing a reward, the U.S. Marshals say tips are rolling in.

"Any time you put that kind of money out there in a reward, it does generate a lot of tips and interest," Beeman said.

The cash incentive came from Dr. Katherine Callahan, an ordinary citizen.

And yes, that's rare.

"Very rare. In my 30 years, in my previous agency, the Marshals Service, I hadn't seen an individual put up that kind of money," Beeman said.

"He called me up and said, 'Katherine, is this for real?'" Callahan said. "And I said, 'It's very real.' And from there, that's when Sheriff Beeman took it to the U.S. Marshals and said, 'We need to move on this.'"

Callahan has no direct connection to Sumner's case, but she said he's been hiding for far too long and she wants justice for his alleged victims.

"And my biggest fear is, I have children. What if, for some reason, he's out there doing this to somebody else? I want him brought home. I want him tried in front of the people, and I want people to understand elected officials are not untouchable," Callahan said.
