First question: Where was the husband when she disappeared and what has he said about her disappearance?

Suspect arrested in Texas for suspicious disappearance of Auburn woman

The Auburn Police Department announced Tuesday that an arrest was made in connection to the suspicious disappearance of a pregnant 21-year-old woman who went missing on October 13.

With assistance from the FBI and other agencies, Auburn Police say they tracked one of the suspects in Jackelin Perez's disappearance to Texas. The 24-year-old suspect was arrested on Saturday.

Auburn PD believes there are more individuals involved in Perez's disappearance, and is actively searching for them.

Despite the arrest, Jackelin Perez still remains missing.

According to police, there are search efforts in Guatemala, Mexico, Texas, and Washington to find Perez.

Perez disappeared between 6-7 p.m. on Oct. 13 from her apartment at2014 I St. NE in north Auburn, but her husband didn't call police to report her disappearance until the next morning.

Police called Perez's disappearance "suspicious," and don't believe the six weeks pregnant woman disappeared randomly.

APD spokesperson Kolby Crossley told KOMO News detectives have been working around the clock to figure out what happened to the 21-year-old. Perez and her husband immigrated from Guatemala within the last year and moved to Auburn about four months ago.

The couple speaks limited English, Crossley added.

Crossley said Perez's husband came home about 20 minutes after his wife disappeared.

"As of right now we haven’t ruled anything out," Crossley said when asked about if Perez's husband was a suspect and if he was cooperating with the investigation. "We’re looking into everything in this case."

Hopefully for the husband, he thought she was at a friends house or similar and didn't get concerned until she wasn't home in the morning is why he didn't call in sooner.

Pregnant woman kidnapped at gunpoint in Auburn found alive in Mexico, suspect arrested
A 21-year-old pregnant woman from Guatemala has been found alive in Mexico after she was kidnapped at gunpoint from her Auburn apartment on Oct. 13.

The Auburn Police Department announced on Tuesday an individual had been arrested in Texas in connection to her disappearance. The APD said it tracked the 24-year-old suspect to Texaswith help from the FBI and other agencies.

On Wednesday, Auburn police confirmed authorities in Mexico found the missing woman, Jackelin Perez, and Mexican authorities are working with Guatemalan authorities to return Perez back to the country. Police said Perez was found earlier in the week, but it took some time to confirm it was her and she was safe.

"What we believe is she was caught up in some illegal activity that she was not involved in," APD spokesperson Kolby Crossley said. "So she was taken by gunpoint from her home and for whatever reason they released her in Mexico."

"We're looking into the illegal activity, why she was taken in the first place," Crossley said.

Pregnant woman kidnapped at gunpoint from her apartment found alive in Mexico

Police say a 21-year-old pregnant woman who was kidnapped at gunpoint from her apartment in Washington state has been found alive in Mexico.

Jackelin Perez, who is six weeks pregnant, went missing from the Auburn apartment she shares with her husband on the evening of Oct. 13. Police got the news that she was found alive Wednesday.

“It was shocking. It was a surprise to all of us and really just thrilled,” said Kolby Crossley, a public information officer for the Auburn Police Department.

Police say Mexican authorities found Perez in the past few days. She confirmed to officers that she was kidnapped from her apartment at gunpoint.

Police say Perez’s kidnappers brought her to Mexico, where they released her. It’s not clear why they chose to release her there.

Perez, who is originally from Guatemala, had only lived in Auburn for four months. She is now back in her native country and plans to stay there.

Police believe illegal activity led to Perez’s kidnapping and multiple suspects were involved.

“We believe there was some sort of illegal activity happening that led to this that she was not involved in, so she just was kind of caught up in it,” Crossley said.

One of the suspects, a 24-year-old man, was tracked to Texas, where he was arrested last Saturday. He will be extradited back to Washington.

Police add Perez’s husband arrived home about 20 minutes after her kidnapping but didn’t call police until the next morning. They haven’t ruled out the possibility he was one of those involved as they continue the investigation.

“There is a lot to still go over. But the great news is that she was found and that she is safe,” Crossley said.

I wonder if they were trying to get her involved in sex trafficking? I hope she can find safety in the future!
