Jose Gutierrez, an architect from Cincinnati, Ohio, was last seen in the United States at the CVG Airport outside Cincinnati on December 22 when he traveled to the Mexican state of Zacatecas

Gutierrez was traveling to Mexico to visit his fiancée ahead of their 2023 wedding date, which is a trip his family says he makes often.

The last time Brandie Gutierrez spoke with her brother and his fiancée was days into the trip, when they went out to eat at a local bar, and Brandie says local news reports covered an incident that took place in the area that night.

"The bars actually noticed screams," she said. "There is something that is not right." The couple have not been heard from or seen since that night, and the family is concerned they may have been abducted. The State Department’s most recent travel advisory to Mexico includes Zacatecas as one of several states in Mexico that tourists should "not travel due to crime and kidnapping."

Parents issue plea to kidnappers to release four people in Mexico

The parents of the four people, including a U.S. citizen, who were reportedly kidnapped in central Mexico are begging their captors to release them.

José Gutiérrez, 36; Irma Vargas, 27; her cousins, Daniela Márquez, 31, and Viviana Márquez, 26, were last heard from on Sunday night after dining at Solano Resto Bar in Jerez de García, Zacatecas.

A vehicle belonging to one of the three women was found abandoned on a road in the city of Tepetongo with no trace of the four victims.


On Thursday, Gutiérrez's and Vargas' parents issued video statements asking the public for help, but more importantly pleading to their kidnappers to release all four victims.

'Don't harm them, take everything they carry, but let them go,' said the mother of Gutiérrez, who works for an architecture firm in Cincinnati. 'We won't ask for those who have them to be punished, but please return them to us.'

In a separate video, Vargas' mother added that the disappearance of her daughter, two nieces and Gutiérrez, who had traveled to Mexico to spend the Christmas holidays with his fiancé, Daniela, was 'an agony.'

'It's like if you're slowly dying,' she said.


The distraught mother said she received a text message from Vargas, who told her, 'Everything is OK mom, we're already arriving at Huejucar,' a town in the state of Jalisco that is near the Zacatecas border.

'There are no words, it is a tremendously painful, desperate situation, not knowing anything about your children,' she said. 'They are not even asking for a ransom, we don't know anything, If they wanted the vehicle, let them take it and that's it, but why hurt innocent people. It is a very big pain that I cannot explain.'


Rosa Pichardo said she had last spoken to her daughter Daniela around 10pm Sunday before the group was set to return to her daughters' home in Colotlán.

The concerned mother then received an alert on her cellphone about 100 minutes later in which Daniela shared her location in Vivoras, a neighborhood in the Zacatecas town of Tepetongo.

'There were those who saw they were kidnapping them, there was a lot of panic, screams, but they didn't get them out and they took the vehicle,' Pichardo said.

Brandie told NBC affiliate WLWT that Daniela's parents attempted to get near the location but were not allowed to do by cops because of how dangerous the area is.

HAMILTON, Ohio (WXIX) - Many in the Hamilton community banded together Friday night in a show of support for a Tri-State man who remains missing in Mexico.

Dozens filled St. Julie Billiart Church for 36-year-old Jose Gutierrez. The prayer service united family, friends and coworkers with prayers that he will be back home with them soon.

“It’s very stressful, because we’re here, as United States citizens on this side, and our brother is in a completely different country, where we have no idea where he’s at,” said Luis Gutierrez, Jose’s brother.

ZACATECAS, Mexico (WKRC) - A van matching the description of the vehicle a Hamilton architect and his fiancee were believed to have been in when they disappeared has been located in Mexico.

The last time the Gutierrez family heard from Jose was on Dec. 25, when he sent a text to the family group chat wishing everyone a Merry Christmas.

That same night, he and his fiancée went out to dinner at a restaurant in Zacatecas. Pichardo’s sister and cousin were also with them. They haven't been seen since.

A private organization in Mexico that works to find missing people put out a missing persons flyer with Jose and his fiancés name on it.

The van was found in a rural community. The father of one of the missing people told TV Azteca that the tires were blown, the airbag was activated and there were bullet holes in the back.

The Zacatecas State Prosecutor's Office told TV Azteca a man's body was found with a second vehicle located on the property. The body has not been identified due to the advanced state of decomposition.

Gutierrez holds a master’s degree from Miami University and works as an architect in downtown Cincinnati.

The U.S. Department of State has a travel advisory for Mexico that includes Zacatecas.

Mexican authorities have reportedly found the bullet-riddled car of an Ohio man missing since December and say that four bodies were found buried near the vehicle.

Mexican authorities have reportedly recovered the car that an Ohio man who went missing in December while visiting his fiancee in Mexico was seen driving and located four bodies near the vehicle.

The vehicle that Jose Gutierrez, a 36-year-old architect from the Cincinnati, Ohio, area, was last seen riding in with three other people has been discovered in the Mexican state of Zacatecas with bullet holes and flat tires, WLWT-TV reported.

Additionally, the outlet reported that the attorney general for the state of Zacatecas said four bodies were discovered buried near the vehicle and testing is being done to determine the identities of the individuals.

Gutierrez has been missing since Christmas Day along with his fiancée Viviana Pichardo, her sister and her cousin, all of whom went to dinner that night and haven’t been seen since.

When the group of four didn’t return from the bar they went to on Christmas Day, WCPO-TV reported that Pichardo’s family contacted them and received a text message with an address in response. When Pichardo’s mother went to that address, she was stopped by police, who said the area was too dangerous to visit, and the four were never heard from again.

The U.S. State Department currently has a "Do Not Travel" warning in place for the Zacatecas region "due to crime and kidnapping."

"Violent crime, extortion and gang activity are widespread in Zacatecas state," the Department of State's website state. "U.S. citizens and LPRs [lawful permanent residents] have been victims of kidnapping."

Four bodies have been found in Mexico connected to the case of a missing man from Hamilton, Ohio.

José Gutiérrez, 36, flew to Mexico from Cincinnati on Dec. 22 to visit his fiancée, Daniela Pichardo.

BUTLER COUNTY — A DNA comparison has confirmed the fourth body found in Mexico belongs to a Butler Co. man, José Gutiérrez, missing since December, according to news partners at WCPO.

On Jan. 20, Mexican authorities identified three out of four bodies discovered as Gutiérrez fiancee, Daniela Pichardo, her sister Viviana and their cousin Paola Vargas.

Gutiérrez’s family told WCPO that authorities called them Tuesday to deliver the news. The family said they plan to make arrangements to have a service in the U.S., but were not yet ready to speak further.
