Missouri City woman hasn't talked to family in 10 days. They say she needs her medicine

A CLEAR Alert was issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety for a Missouri City woman who's been missing for more than a week.

Karen Miles, 61, is diabetic and needs insulin, according to the Missouri City Police Department.

Miles was last seen around noon on Aug. 22 in the 10000 block of South Sam Houston Parkway. She was reported missing by her family on Aug. 29, MCPD said.

Police said they found her car in Pearland but there were no signs of Karen. The man who was driving her car was taken into custody but it's unclear if he knew her or if he's a suspect in her disappearance. Investigators are checking her car for clues that could help authorities find her.

Karen's family wants help finding her.

"If my sister doesn't take her three shots per day, she goes into a diabetic coma," Patricia said.

They're not sure what happened.

"Everyone is thinking that maybe she was driving her car and she had a medical incident with her diabetes and may have passed out and veered off the road," Patricia said.

Family members are staying positive. They said Karen is a social butterfly who's a member of the Black Heritage Committee with RodeoHouston.

Person of interest not truthful about how he wound up with missing Missouri City woman's car: Police

Missouri City police have identified a person of interest related to the disappearance of Karen Miles, although the extent of his involvement is unknown.

Karen Miles was last heard from on Aug. 21 around 10:45 p.m. She was last believed to be at her apartment in a senior living community on the Sam Houston Tollway near Gessner.

Missouri City police Detective Derrick Spencer believes something happened to Miles between the last time she was heard from and 5:45 a.m. the next day. He said she did not show up for work.

She was reported missing to police on Aug. 28 when her family could not reach her.

"We have working theories, but of course, those theories have to be confirmed," Spencer said.

Davante Clark was arrested on Aug. 25 in Pearland while driving Miles' car with a stolen license plate. Clark is charged with several crimes in Brazoria County that are unrelated to Miles' disappearance. He remains in custody.

Police believe Miles' car was taken from her apartment complex, although they do not think she was robbed. Authorities also do not believe the two knew one another and said they are unsure if she was targeted.

During a news conference on Monday, Spencer identified Clark as a person of interest in the case.

"He explained to us how he acquired the vehicle," Spencer said. "We vetted that information and determined not to be true."

According to Spencer, nothing notable was found in Miles' residence during a search that would give them any indication of what happened. He said there were no signs of forced entry.

There have not been any searches, but Spencer said they are ready to call on Texas EquuSearch if the need arises.

"We do not have any idea where she could be," Spencer said.

Miles' children, Janice Bond and John Miles, are hopeful that their mother will be found unharmed. She is described as being involved in several organizations and having a philanthropic heart.

"So many people are pulling for her safe and full return and that's beautiful to know that that's circulating, and that's beautiful to know that's out there," Bond said.

Odd one. Wrong plate on car, he had it, but they didn't appear to know each other. Arrested also for other crimes unrelated to her. Don't know if maybe she was targeted...

Is it known what kind of car?

I read both links and don't see mention of the kind of car. Just a thought that car thieves would go for expensive ones but that doesn't really make sense either because they'd strip them and get them into a chop shop, etc. not be caught driving them...

At first I thought with diabetes and living in a senior community her health was bad and she was in like assisted living at minimum, but then it mentioned she did not make it to work so she worked, so I am now assuming they simply means an over 55 apartment complex which I'd actually like time to look into here, there are several. So it sounds as if she simply had diabetes so if not getting her meds could be bad but other than that she drove, lived independently, worked and nothing wrong that way.

Could his having the car be totally happenstance and he has nothing to do with her disappearance? I don't tend to believe in coincidence though and that seems a reach...

Not enough here to really have an opinion...

Skeletal remains found near where Karen Miles was last seen

One day after a man was named a person of interest in a Missouri City woman’s disappearance, skeletal remains have been found. Police said they followed up on a tip and found the bones on Blue Ridge Road.

That’s just four miles from where Karen Miles was last seen alive on August 21st. The medical examiner still needs to positively identify the remains.

Person of interest in case of missing Missouri City woman may be tied to 2 others, warrant reveals

The investigation into what happened to a Missouri City woman continues a day after remains believed to be her were found in a field four miles from her home.

On Monday afternoon, Missouri City police said information obtained through their investigation led them to a field in the 16000 block of Blue Ridge Drive where remains were located in a heavily wooded area.

The medical examiner's office still has to positively identify the remains as belonging to Miles, which could take months.

A search warrant filed by Missouri City PD asking a judge to allow them to obtain information from Miles' cell phone stated that investigators received information from Texas EquuSearch regarding Clark during the course of their investigation.

"The (email) stated the agency had two investigations dated Oct. 24, 2023, and Oct. 26, 2023, where a subject with the same name (Devante Clark) and same address was a person of interest in a pair of stolen vehicles cases where the victims were never located," the search warrant reads.

ABC13 is working to learn more about those missing person cases and where they stand.

Okay so the thought of car theft crossed my mind but I dismissed it for a few reasons, like he was dumb enough to be caught driving it, etc... Now the above seems to confirm he stole cars from others where remains have never been found...

Different case for sure.

Skeletal remains belong to Missouri City woman who disappeared 3 weeks ago, police say

The skeletal remains that investigators located in a deeply wooded area of Missouri City on Monday belong to a 61-year-old woman who disappeared about three weeks prior, police said on Friday.

According to the Missouri City Police Department, the Fort Bend County Medical Examiner positively identified Karen Miles' body through dental records. The medical examiner additionally determined her death to be a homicide caused by a single gunshot wound.

MCPD confirmed it has transitioned into a homicide investigation, and aggravated robbery and capital murder charges were filed against Davante Clark, who investigators identified as the person who drove Miles' stolen vehicle in the days after her last confirmed contact with anyone.

According to charging documents, Miles was held at gunpoint in the parking lot of her senior living complex in the 10000 block of the South Sam Houston Parkway. Clark approached her with a gun as she was getting into her Ford Explorer and a witness also saw Clark get into the vehicle, records state.

She was last heard from on Aug. 21 at about 10:45 p.m. She was last believed to be at her apartment. Her family said she would leave for work in the pre-dawn hours.

Miles did not show up for work the next morning but wasn't reported missing until Aug. 28, when her family could not get in touch with her.

Missouri City police said information obtained through their investigation led them to a field on Monday, the 16000 block of Blue Ridge Drive, where remains were located in a heavily wooded area.

On Aug. 28, Davante Clark, 29, was arrested by Pearland police. He was found to be driving Miles' car bearing a stolen license plate from Arkansas, according to a spokesperson for the Pearland Police Department. Clark was arrested on charges initially related to the stolen vehicle, but not for her disappearance and booked into the Brazoria County jail where he remains on Friday.

There is no timetable on when he will be transferred to Harris County.

Family believes man charged in death of Karen Miles is tied to their loved one's disappearance

Destin Henderson’s family is still looking for answers nearly a year after he disappeared.

Henderson is originally from California but moved to Houston. He hasn’t been seen or heard from since October of 2023.

“October 23, I talked to my son at 7:19, which was 9:19 out there. He wanted to tell me something,” said Henderson's mom, Lawana Shaw.

Shaw lives in California and said Henderson was supposed to call back, but he never did.

Henderson’s family said they’ve had a hunch for quite some time as to who could be responsible for Henderson’s disappearance.

“We know Davante was the last person that was with my brother. Like my mom said, my brother went missing October 24th,” said Henderson's sister, Le Annessa Scipio.

Family members said Henderson and Davante were friends.

“Prior to my brother going missing, he had told me about the violence and Davante was his personal trainer and he kind of had a liking towards Davante,” said Scipio.

Court documents obtained by KHOU 11 News said on September 4, 2023, Texas EquuSearch emailed detectives saying there were two investigations where Clark was a person of interest in a pair of stolen vehicle cases where the victims were never found.

One of those cases dated October 24, the day of Henderson’s disappearance.

“The day my brother went missing, he told me he was going over to Davante's house to help him move,” said Scipio.

After learning Miles' skeletal remains were found this week, the family can’t help but lose the hope they were holding on to for almost a year.

“At this point in time, like, we all know that my son is deceased. We just want to bring him home.,” said Shaw.

The family said Henderson’s car was found in March less than a mile from his apartment complex but no trace of him. They’re hoping that they’ll get some answers soon.

A serial killer? How many more people went missing or were killed around this guy?

How suspect’s girlfriend helped investigators find the remains of missing mother Karen Miles

Davante Clark and his girlfriend were sleeping in the parking lot near Karen Miles’ apartment when the Missouri City mother disappeared.

They didn’t have a place to live and the HomeTowne Senior Living Apartments had become a favorite spot because it was well-lit.

Investigators believe Clark confronted Miles as she was getting into her car one morning, forced her to drive to a neighborhood he knew well, killed her and took her car.

It was the girlfriend who helped investigators build a case after he went missing and she got worried first and then suspicious.

The court documents revealed the following story of their relationship and the unraveling of Clark’s case:

One morning around the time Miles disappeared, the woman said she remembers waking up, hearing the driver’s door slam shut. Clark was running toward an SUV. She said she couldn’t see who was in it or if Miles got into the car. She told investigators she went back to sleep.

Within an hour, Clark returned and told her, “We are good, I have a vehicle now.”

The girlfriend said she didn’t ask questions. After Clark disappeared, he began calling her from jail, asking her to bail him out.

It was those phone conversations from jail that led police to the girlfriend.

She told them she’d learned recently about the disappearance of Karen Miles and had even reached out to the Miles’ family after seeing her missing persons flyer on a website.

The girlfriend told investigators she had never seen or delivered groceries to Karen Miles.

The investigation from that point turned to forensics.

A Baytown expert was able to extract information from the infotainment system in Miles’ SUV, which placed the car at the location where detectives found her body, which was about 15 minutes away from Miles’ apartment in a grassy area. Clark knew the area, court documents say, because another ex-girlfriend they interviewed lived about 500 yards away.
