Man who murdered pregnant girlfriend, threw 2-year-old off bridge takes guilty plea

On Tuesday, April 1, the man who killed his pregnant girlfriend and threw her son off of a bridge back in 2022 took a plea.

Brynnen Murphy is now facing up to 95 years in prison on two counts of manslaughter and one count of first-degree feticide.

District Attorney Hilla Moore says this case has taken a toll on everyone involved, and this guilty plea means the family won’t have to sit through a graphic trial. Moore says they believe the sentence is adequate and “pretty much a life sentence.”

“Obviously, autopsies were involved in this, and some of those photographs have to be shown and then just the description by the pathologist of how the deaths occurred, and how the bodies were disposed of, it would be brutal for a family to go through this,” Moore says. “There’s no other sentence than what he agreed to today, so this is a guaranteed sentence, he’s practically doing life in prison.”

The family declined to comment, but Moore says they will have the choice to give a statement or have someone read a statement for them during the formal sentencing, which is scheduled for June 10.

"practically" doing life in prison? It is a no earned time off I'd hope, or chance of parole. Plus it is "up to" 95 years, a lot of not definite talk here. Family had no comment.

On one had he turned self in and took responsibility now and that's rare but I don't like the wording of this.
