Missing Houston girl: Nadia Lee, daughter of man charged with common-law wife's murder

Authorities in Houston are searching for the 2-year-old daughter of a man who is charged with the murder of his common-law wife.

The Houston Police Department and Texas EquuSearch are looking for Nadia Lee, who was reported to have last been seen around October 16 in the 300 block of South Richey Street in Pasadena.

Police say Nadia Lee is the daughter of Jyron Charles Lee, 26, who was charged in the death of his common-law wife on Tuesday night.

The 22-year-old woman was found unresponsive in a hotel room in the 500 Bay Area Blvd.

According to police, she had called 911 earlier in the evening and said there was a dispute over child custody with her common-law husband.

Officers responded to the scene. HPD said officers settled the situation and everyone was fine when they left.

Around 10:30 p.m., authorities say they got another call from the man. Police say he reported that the woman was trying to discipline one of the children, and he thought she was choking the child. According to HPD, he told officers that he then put the woman in a chokehold to stop her, but she went unconscious.

The woman was pronounced dead at the hospital. Authorities said she had signs of trauma to her neck.

Police said two girls, ages 1 and 3, were also in the hotel room but were not injured.

Jyron Lee was detained at the scene, and further investigation led to him being charged with murder in the woman's death. His bond was set at $250,000.

Anyone with information on 2-year-old Nadia’s whereabouts is asked to call the HPD Homicide Division AT (713)308-3600 or Texas EquuSearch at (281)309-9500.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Texas EquuSearch is now looking through Memorial Park for a Pasadena 2-year-old who has been missing for over a month.

Nadia Lee was last seen alive on Oct. 16 in the 300 block of South Richey Street at about 8 p.m., at her father's apartment, according to Houston police.

Texas EquuSearch's quest to find the little girl has led to a bayou behind Memorial Park with boats and sonar tools.

Founder Tim Scott previously said to ABC13 that he believes this would not end positively. "I don't think this is going to have the positive outcome we would like to have," Scott said. "One of my biggest fears is there may not be an outcome."

“Our dogs did do some alerting on things when they were in the boat," said Tim Miller, the founder of Texas EquuSearch, near the bayou by Jyron Lee's home.

He now believes Nadia Lee may have been put in some kind of container.

“I’m not going to say what that containment is, but we are pretty sure of that," he said.

“I think if she is in here, we are going to give it our best shot and bring in every resource that we can possibly bring in," he said. "We are far from done."

Texas Equusearch plans to meet with HPD homicide investigators on Monday. Next week, they’re hoping to get dive teams in the water.

"All I can say is a lot of time was spent here, and he did not have a vehicle," Miller said.

Search crews zeroed in on a specific area in Vince Bayou on Friday afternoon and pulled a child's shoe and cloth from the site. They used cadaver dogs during their search.

Miller said he picked up several images on sonar but was having trouble deciphering what they were because of the large amounts of debris in the bottom of the bayou.

Miller said he contacted their diver to check an area of interest but is unsure when that will happen.

As part of the new information, Miller believes Nadia may have been put in a container, which may have prevented her from traveling too far down Vince Bayou.

Pasadena father charged with capital murder following disappearance of 2-year-old Nadia Lee

After weeks and weeks of searching, there are new developments in the case of a missing 2-year-old. Despite extensive searching, Nadia Lee has not been found, but her father is now charged with capital murder in connection with her death.

Nadia hasn't been seen since about Oct. 16. Police believe Jyron Charles Lee, 26, inflicted such severe injuries on his daughter that he caused her death around that time.

Nadia's body has not been recovered.

Court documents reveal chilling online search history of dad charged in 2-year-old's death

Documents say Nadia was in foster care up until Oct. 14, when she was released back to her family. Investigators believe Nadia was killed just two days later.

Nadia's mother was found strangled to death in a Clear Lake hotel on Oct. 18. Only then did police realize Nadia was missing.

Police said they performed a welfare check at Lee's Pasadena apartment on Oct. 19. He told police he left Nadia alone while he took out the trash, and when he came back, he claimed she was gone.

Some of the most telling evidence came from Lee's cell phone, according to court documents. Investigators reportedly found pictures of Nadia with injuries to her face.

Documents said there is a picture of his daughter lying face down in a Minnie Mouse bed with apparent stains around the area of her mouth consistent with vomit and/or blood.

Investigators said they made notable findings in the phone's Google search history such as, "Is whooping your child a sin," and "In the Bible, is it a sin not to spank a misbehaving child?" A search was made on Oct. 17 for, "How long it takes for a dead body to smell."

They also found a washcloth and mattress inside of his Pasadena apartment that tested positive for blood.

Court documents state that Lee has a history of being investigated by law enforcement and DFPS for child abuse and neglect.

Texas EquuSearch plans to meet with investigators on Thursday to discuss what their search efforts will be moving forward.

Lee is scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m.

I have no doubt he killed this child. And stupid to Google about how long it takes for a dead body to begin to give off the odor of death the day after she went missing. Texas. I hope he gets the death penalty.

I swear I read they have 5 children. So, we know a 1 and 3 year old are currently safe. 2 year old missing and presumed dead? Where are the other 2?

Also, were these 2 separated? She's in a hotel with 2 kids, he's picked up a 2 year old and went to his apartment? There was mention of a custody dispute.
Correct

Two of the couple's children, ages 1 and 3, were present at the time of the murder. They were not physically injured and were turned over to CPS custody. Family members confirmed the couple has five children together.

News is both good and bad. It should add to an already strong case for conviction but so very sad.

I just can't fathom what is wrong with people that do such things. You know, even if at minimum they admitted to losing it and told them where the body was, it would maybe show some humanity (although I'd still wonder that they weren't doing it to try for lesser charges or a deal) but they don't even do that, instead making them even more of a monster by letting their child, wife, whoever rot and loved ones have no body to bury.

I'll stop there. We all know how evil and awful this is and how absolutely selfish what they do in the afternmath which is hide the body and some do worse, and lie to protect their own arse.
