FAMILY GRIEVES AS POLICE INVESTIGATE CHILD ABUSE CASE AS SUSPECTED HOMICIDE

The mother of a child missing for two years went before a judge Monday for the first time on child abuse and neglect charges.

Police continue their work to determine what happened to Orlando Hugger, who would be 11 years old now, but who is missing and possibly murdered in 2021.

His biological father, also named Orlando Hugger, last saw his son in early 2020. He described a contentious relationship with his son’s mother.

“He was standing in the doorway, I wasn't allowed to verbally talk with him, or interact with him, she was making a big deal about that, but that was the last time I saw him,” he said.

Now he regrets not doing more to locate and protect his son. But he said as the non-custodial parent, his options were limited, and that DHS told him a neglect case had been closed without any action against the mother.

“I've got so many questions. It's not really going to make things better, but it would be nice to know exactly what happened, why he's not here,” said Hugger.

Hugger said he had a brief relationship with Camille Lewis - the mother - now charged with abuse and neglect of both of her children - Orlando, and his 13-year-old sister.

Her boyfriend, John Miles, faces the same charges and more for abuse of his own children.

Lewis was ordered held on $500,000 for each of the neglect and abuse charges against her and remains in the Tulsa County Jail.

TPD identify missing, presumed dead child in child abuse case

The child who was reported missing in connection to the Tulsa couple arrested on Wednesday for child abuse and neglect was identified Friday.

Police confirmed the name of the missing boy is Orlando Hugger Jr.

FOX23 previously reported that the grandmother came forward after Orlando had been missing for “several years.”

The grandmother believed Orlando had to have been deceased when she spoke to police.

It was discovered, the week before the grandmother reported the missing child, Orlando’s biological father had actually filed a missing persons report.

Orlando’s father has told police the child’s mother, Camille Lewis, had been withholding the Orlando from his father and he hadn’t seem him in two years.

Police were told Lewis had dropped her daughter off at the grandmother’s home over the summer after Lewis and the other suspect, John Miles, broke up.

Miles is not the father of Orlando or Lewis’s daughter who the grandmother has now taken in.

The grandmother told officers she is very afraid of the suspects and reported what she knew as soon as her granddaughter began telling her of the abuse.

In court documents, the granddaughter claimed her mother told her Orlando had died from a seizure and had been taken and buried by Miles and his cousin.

Both children were previously enrolled in Tulsa Public Schools (TPS) before Lewis withdrew them in 2020.

POLICE LOOKING FOR INFORMATION ON 11-YEAR-OLD BOY IN CHILD ABUSE CASE

Tulsa Police are asking for information about an 11-year-old boy who hasn’t been seen in two years and is believed to have been murdered.

Police arrested the boy’s mother and stepfather, who are accused of severely abusing the boy and his 13-year-old sister for years.

Detectives say one parent said the boy ran away, the other parent says he went to live with a cousin, but couldn’t name the cousin. The boy’s sister says he died and his body was burned and the ashes thrown in a sewer drain. Family members tell News On 6 the little boy is Orlando Hugger Jr. also known as “OJ.” Police say he hasn’t been seen in two years, about the time his sister says he was murdered.

The arrest report for John Miles and Camille Lewis says the 13-year-old girl told police she and her brother were starved for and locked in separate closets for weeks, even months at a time. It says the children were repeatedly beaten with belts and cords, covered in scars, and forced to use the restroom in the closets. It said in order for the girl to get food, she had to do sexual favors for Miles. The girl told police her mother said the boy died from a seizure in March of 2021.

“The detectives went to her house and interviewed her and the story kept getting worse and worse and worse,” said Lieutenant Stephen Lamb with the Tulsa Police Child Crisis Unit.

Investigators say it all started when the girl was sent to live with her grandmother and told her about the years of abuse. Investigators say it’s common for an abuse victim to share information once they finally feel safe.

“This is somewhat typical when a child gets removed from an abusive environment. They get comfortable, their fear level decreases, and they are comfortable sharing information,” said Lt. Lamb.

Investigators say the girl told them Miles and his cousin buried the boy’s body in a park, then worried it was too shallow, so they dug him up and burned his remains in a barrel, then put the ashes in a storm drain. Investigators say the mother admitted to abusing and starving the children but denied the boy's death.

“The only things the suspects have told us is one said he ran away and the other says he went to live with a cousin. Nobody can name this cousin. Best case scenario we find out this boy is living with a cousin somewhere,” said Lt. Lamb. “If we can’t get the truth out of the people involved, we have to have somebody tell us. It has been too long since he was last seen. The evidence is going to be scant. We have to have information from the public.”

The case is being treated as a homicide now. If anyone has any information, call Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS.

TULSA POLICE INTENSIFY SEARCH FOR MISSING 11-YEAR-OLD BOY PRESUMED TO BE DEAD

Law enforcement in Tulsa continues the search for 11-year-old Orlando Hugger Jr., who police believe was murdered.

Tulsa Police were back at the house Friday where they think Orlando died.

They have better equipment, more manpower, and other outside resources to help with the search.

We told you about this story in February when the boy’s mother and stepfather were arrested and accused of severely abusing the boy and his 13-year-old sister for years.

The arrest report for John Miles and Camille Lewis says the little boy's sister told police she and her brother were starving and had been locked in separate closets for weeks, even months at a time.

The girl told investigators that Miles and his cousin buried Orlando's body in a park, then worried it was too shallow. So they dug him up and burned his remains in a barrel, then put the ashes in a storm drain, according to the girl.

Investigators said the mother admits to abusing and starving the children but denies the boy's death.

Tulsa Police, the OSBI, and State Medical Examiners searched for his remains Friday at a house near 51st and Memorial.

Police said they're using drones, search dogs, and ground-penetrating radar.

"Through the course of the investigation, we've identified a handful of places that we need to go back and search again. So we brought in lots of outside resources to help with that," said Lieutenant Stephen Lamb.

Lt. Lamb said they're also searching a few other nearby spots. Police said if they don't find anything Friday, they'll continue the search Saturday.

In many cases, it is a sad fact that many come down on the woman, the female, the mother, more than a man. In Vallow the masses think she was the temptress and Chad a dumb cuckold but not the case imo at all. He is the big deceiver in that people think that and she is actually pretty obvious while he acts and looks like the one led astray fooled because what would she see in someone who looked like that right? And many times I think people judge because a mother is to be THE be all and end all and caregiver of their children and protector so women are come down on more harshly imo.

I know that's a bit off topic/off case but I say it to lead to this--What in the HELL is wrong with this despicable mother??? HE may well be the worst abuser of the two, who knows, but SHE is their MOTHER and he is a stepfather. And sexual acts for her daughter to get food from him? And both children abused worse than we will likely ever know how horrendously. By both. And EVEN now she admits abuse but denies death. She is a POS, they both are. But even NOW, she/they won't come clean. VERMIN. BOTH of them.

TULSA, Okla. — Camille Lewis and John Miles III are now both charged with second degree murder in the disappearance of Orlando Hugger Jr. who was 11 years old when he was last seen in 2021.

The couple was arrested and charged in February with multiple counts of child abuse and neglect.

Children close to the case testified in the prelim Thursday which will be continued on June 13.

Orlando Hugger Sr., Orlando's biological father, says Lewis kept Orlando from him for years. He was very present until 2019 when Lewis stopped letting him see Orlando.

"At this point, I think in January, I went to the police and tried to do a missing person's, because I hadn't seen him, my family hasn't seen him," said Hugger Sr.

<snip>

"I feel like I could have done more me personally, I also feel like others could have done more as well," Hugger Sr. said. "To be honest, it pisses me off. Because somebody did it to him, and as a father, I want to protect my kids. This is the biggest let down. He needed me the most to protect him and I wasn't able to."

TULSA JUDGE HEARS TESTIMONY IN CHILD ABUSE, POSSIBLE MURDER CASE

A Tulsa County judge will soon decide if a man should stand trial for the death of an 11-year-old boy he is accused of abusing and neglecting.

John Miles and Camille Lewis have both been charged with abusing and neglecting their three children. Miles is also charged with second-degree murder in the death of their son Orlando Hugger, even though his body has not been found. It is highly unusual for prosecutors to file a murder charge in a case where the victim's body has not been found, but not unheard of.

The next preliminary hearing date for Miles is set for June 26.

Tulsa prosecutors plan to upgrade murder charges against a man accused of killing a little boy whose remains have not yet been found.

The suspect, John Miles, was in court on Tuesday.

Miles is accused of killing his stepson, Orlando Hugger, and though he was charged with second-degree murder, that will become a first-degree murder charge based on new information.

Miles was arrested early in 2023 as Tulsa Police investigated a child abuse case involving a girl and a missing report about her brother, Orlando.

That also led to the arrest of the mother of the children, Camille Lewis, who prosecutors said will now testify against Miles.

That could lead to information the police have sought all along, like what happened to Orlando and whether it's possible to find his body.

Police have searched several places without finding a trace of him and detectives now believe his body was burned and disposed of in a storm drain.

Prosecutors said there is no plea deal with Lewis, the mother, who still faces charges of neglect, abuse, and second-degree murder.

Jury Hears Testimony In Trial Of Man Accused Of Murdering Boy

A jury heard details of the torture and beating death of an 11-year-old boy Thursday in the murder trial of John Miles.

He faces a first-degree murder charge in a case where detectives were unable to find the body of Orlando Hugger Jr.

He was reported missing more than a year after he was last seen alive by people outside the home. His mother, Camille Lewis, says he was beaten to death in March 2021 by John Miles. She said she took part in moving the body several times, including going to a home improvement store to buy a metal trash can to burn the remains.

Lewis denied on the stand that prosecutors have offered anything for her testimony, in advance of her trial next year.

A lengthy search of the home, nearby storm drains, and park land did not turn up any evidence of the remains, but prosecutors say a cadaver dog indicated a body had been in the garage.

Tulsa mother testifies against boyfriend accused of murdering, torturing and abusing her son

It was day three in the murder trial of John Miles III on Thursday.

Testimonies were brought forward from the state against Miles, who’s facing charges of murder, child abuse, neglect and torture.

He’s accused in the murder of 11-year-old Orlando Hugger Jr. who was his stepson. He’s also accused of abusing his step daughter and his three biological kids.

The mother of all of those children, Camille Lewis, took to the stand and testified against Hugger in court on Thursday. She’s facing similar charges and second degree murder of Orlando.

She said the state did not offer her a deal for sentencing if she testified, she was just tired of lying.

Lewis told stories of her and Miles abusing the kids, testimony similar to those of the kids who testified on Wednesday.

She described how the kids were tied and locked in closets for months, denied food, beaten with different objects until bloody. She said the kids were forced to run in the cold, stayed in doghouses and even denied access to the bathroom and hygiene products.

Lewis testified it was Miles who told her to do everything, and he even abused and assaulted her. She said he used fear to force her to beat her kids. She said Orlando died March 18, 2021. She said it was because Miles was throwing him around like a ragdoll, hitting him until he lost consciousness and he suffered a seizure.

When he regained consciousness, they put him back in the closet. An hour later, they found him dead. She said they hid his body in the garage for two days and then buried him in an unknown field north of Tulsa. A few days later, they came back and dug his body up, bought equipment and used a metal trashcan to burn the body over several days.

Detective Testifies In Trial For Tulsa Man Charged With Murdering Step-Son

A Tulsa detective testified at the murder trial of John Miles Friday.

The detective told the jury about the efforts police made to search for Hugger’s remains.

Hugger had been missing for two years and no one knew it.

Police say Lewis and Miles initially said he ran away, then said he was staying with a relative.

Lewis testified this week she helped Miles dispose of the boy’s remains after he was beaten to death, buried, dug up, burned, then put into the sewer system.

The detective testified investigators followed up on several tips saying the boy had been spotted, but they weren’t credible.

The detective described their search of the drainage system, but evidence of the boy’s remains has not been found.

Police have said this is one of the worst cases of abuse they’ve seen, since the boy and his sister were kept locked in closets for weeks on end with little to no showers or bathroom breaks, and very limited food.

They say it was after the girl went to live with as relative that news of the boy’s death came to light.

The couple also have three children of their own.

This case is expected to go to the jury sometime early next week.

The jury deliberated for less than two hours before the verdict.

A man accused of torturing and killing his stepson has been convicted.

John Miles and Camille Lewis were arrested in February of 2023.They were charged with child abuse, neglect, and murder in the death ofLewis' 10-year-old son, Orlando Hugger.

Lewis reportedly gave her 13-year-old daughter to her mother in September 2022.

The grandmother told officers that the young teen was suffering from malnourishment and that 10-year-old Hugger was dead.

When talking to investigators, the 13-year-old daughter said her mother and stepfather, Miles, would lock her and her brother in the closet, beat them with belts, and not feed them.

She said the abuse started in November 2020 and went on until she went to live with her grandmother.

She also told detectives she and her brother were forced to sleep outside in a doghouse.

According to police, the girl told investigators that Miles would offer her food in exchange for sexual favors.

The teen said in March 2021, she heard her mom crying and begging for her brother to wake up.

  • Child Abuse by Injury
  • Child Sex Abuse
  • Child Neglect
  • 1st Degree Murder by Child Abuse
