Placer County woman still missing, not found with boyfriend who is person of interest in Reno homicide

A Placer County woman is still missing after her boyfriend was taken into custody on Wednesday afternoon, the Reno Police Department said.

Earlier Wednesday, the Placer County Sheriff's Office said Patricia Portella-Wright could be with her boyfriend, who is a person of interest in a Reno, Nevada homicide.

Portella-Wright, 48, was reported missing on Aug. 9 after failing to show up for work. Her last known contact was on Aug. 3, Placer Sheriff said.

On Wednesday, the sheriff's office announced that Portella-Wright could be with her 55-year-old boyfriend Brent Clifford of Kings Beach. The male victim of the homicide was found the morning of Aug. 11, two days after Portella-Wright was reported missing.

However, around 4 p.m. Wednesday, Clifford was taken into custody in Portola. He was also in a vehicle authorities previously said Portella-Wright could be in. Portella-Wright was not with Clifford when he was located.

It is also not known how the homicide is connected to Clifford and Portella-Wright.

When asked why Portella-Wright isn't being considered a suspect in the murder, the sheriff's office said there is no evidence of the woman having been involved because she has not been seen since Aug. 3.

The sheriff's office said it is working with the Reno Police Department as they work to solve both the search for the woman and the homicide.

Person of interest in shooting on Keystone Avenue arrested

A person of interest in a shooting death on Keystone Avenue and in the disappearance of a missing woman was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon.

Brent Clifford was apprehended in Portola, California on an active warrant out of California.

The Chevrolet Blazer belonging to the victim of the shooting was also located.

Police are still looking for the missing woman.

Police say the person of interest, Brent Clifford was believed to be dating a woman who went missing from Kings Beach on August 9th, where he drove to Keystone Avenue in Reno.

A man's body later was found in that area, who was later identified as 68-year-old William F. Andrews of Reno.

Police say Clifford was seen driving Andrews' 2003 Chevrolet Blazer with Nevada License Plate PHF8942 (handicap plate). There is a square white sticker just to the right of the rear license plate.

The Blazer was last seen westbound on Highway 70 from US 395 Hallelujah Junction.

During the course of the investigation, it has been determined that Brent was the last person to be seen with Patricia Portella-Wright (the missing person out of Placer County).

Clifford is a person of interest for Placer County regarding the disappearance of Patricia.

Wow! I have family in the Reno area and a very close friend from high school in Portola, so I’m very familiar with all of this area. Hallelujah Junction is out in the middle of absolutely nowhere. But there’s a restaurant I think? And a casino? I’m not sure what’s out there these days. I haven’t been out there since 2016. But there’s probably cameras, is what I was getting to…

I wonder if he initially kidnapped Patricia? And she tried to get away? I don’t know. This is probably going to be a mystery until she’s found.

Here’s a picture of Hallelujah Junction that I found on the Internet. I’m pretty sure this is all that’s out there, other than rocks and sagebrush.IMG_6750.jpeg

Missing woman's body believed found in Nevada, boyfriend detained
The body of 48-year-old Patricia Portella-Wright, reported missing out of Kings Beach last Friday, is believed to have been found in Nevada, according to the Plumas County Sheriff's Office (PCSO). Additionally, her boyfriend, Brent Clifford, 55, has been detained as a person of interest in Portella-Wright's disappearance as well as a murder in Reno, Nev.

On Thursday, Aug. 15, a body, believed to belong to Portella-Wright, was found off Mount Rose Highway in Washoe County, Nev. However, identification confirmation is pending further investigation from the Washoe County Sheriff's Office.

The PCSO said their investigation led them to the Mount Rose Highway area where the body was located. They said officers used a drone to locate the body of a woman down a steep embankment.

Clifford has since been booked into the Plumas County Jail on a murder charge.

California woman found slain off highway in Nevada. Boyfriend arrested

A Tahoe-area woman was found dead off a Nevada highway, officials said Wednesday.

Officials tentatively identified the body as that of Patricia Portella-Wright, 48, a Kings Beach woman who was reported missing on Aug. 9, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office wrote on social media.

Her body was found down a steep embankment off of Mt. Rose Highway in Nevada’s Washoe County, in a condition that suggested foul play, officials said.

Tahoe mystery: Missing woman’s boyfriend allegedly fled in murdered man’s car

Shortly after a Lake Tahoe woman was reported missing, her boyfriend was said to have left Reno in the car of a man who had been shot to death.

Now the woman’s body has been found off a mountain highway, and investigators in California and Nevada are trying to piece together the events.

The case began with a missing-persons report to the Placer County sheriff’s office on Friday, Aug. 9: Patricia Portella-Wright, 48, had failed to show up for work. A photographer and an art gallery employee, she lived with her boyfriend, Brent Clifford, 55, in Kings Beach and had last been seen on Aug. 4.

Deputies were unable to contact Clifford and began searching for him.

A possible clue was found two days later. On Sunday, Aug. 11, police were called to a home in Reno where they found William Andrews, 68, dead from a gunshot wound to the head. Andrews, it turned out, was an acquaintance of Brent Clifford.

After the connection was made, the Placer County sheriff’s office sought the public’s help in finding Andrews’ missing vehicle, a red Chevrolet Blazer. The office said the SUV had last been seen near Hallelujah Junction, on Highway 70 in California, and it released a security camera image of the vehicle being driven past the Circus Circus casino in downtown Reno.

The Blazer’s driver was thought to be Clifford, it said.

Around 4 p.m. Wednesday, Clifford was arrested in Portola on suspicion of identity theft. The Blazer was found nearby.

As the search for Portella-Wright continued, investigators found information that directed them to the Mount Rose area. On Thursday, a drone spotted a body on a steep slope below Mount Rose Highway between the ski area and the Galena Forest neighborhood. It was recovered and that afternoon determined to be Portella-Wright’s. A Placer County sheriff’s spokesman did not give a cause of death but said there were signs of foul play.

With the identification, Clifford was charged with homicide. He was in Placer County Jail on Thursday.

What a monster! Looks like he dropped off Patricia‘s body before surveillance cameras at Circus Circus caught him in the car. I know exactly where Circus Circus is, been there quite a few times. Downtown Reno on Virginia Street. Interesting that he went down old Virginia Street instead of taking the freeway out of town.

Tahoe man charged with murder of Kings Beach woman returns to court

A Tahoe man suspected of killing his girlfriend returned to a Placer County courtroom on Monday and was arraigned on a homicide charge.

Clifford was brought into the courtroom in a wheelchair. He appeared tired and had a bruise on his forehead. He kept his head down for the majority of the hearing, only responding with yes-or-no answers.

The judge set bail for the fraud charges at $55,000; however, because he was suspected of murder, he could post bail for the fraud but wouldn’t be released.

On Monday, he was appointed a public defender and arraignment was continued to Sept. 9.

No bail remains in place.
