Simi Valley family desperate for answers after mother of 2 vanishes, leaving bloody scene at home

A Simi Valley family is desperate for answers after their loved one -- a mother of two children -- disappeared under mysterious circumstances and left behind a bloody scene at her home.

Rachel Castillo's family is combing over what investigators have already sifted through and trying to find the slightest answers into why she vanished.

Castillo, 25, has two young children, is studying to become a therapist and lives with her sister just a few miles down the road from their parents.

"She's a great mother, she's a good daughter, she's a good sister, she's a good friend," Robyn Castillo said about her daughter.

Emily Castillo, the sister, came home Thursday night and upon walking into their apartment she immediately saw blood -- a lot of it.

"As soon as I saw the blood, that's when I realized something wasn't right," Emily said. "So I called my mom to let her know to come over and then I immediately called 911."

As she waited for help to arrive, Emily felt she had to do something.

"I was running around the house trying to see if I could find her somewhere," Emily said. "I checked her bathroom, under her bed, her closet, my closet, the laundry room, my bathroom and my bedroom but she wasn't anywhere in there."

Her mom arrived soon after and saw the mess firsthand. Rachel's phone, keys and car were all home without her.

Robyn says her first thought was that someone took her, but she doesn't know if that's what actually happened.

She added that Rachel dropped her sons off with their father earlier that morning. That was planned and they said they have no reason to believe he would've hurt her.

Detectives told the family they're looking into all possibilities, including other men she was potentially seeing, and if neighbors saw or heard anything.

"The most important thing is that she's a mother," Robyn said. "She has two little boys who are going to miss her, and we just want her home."

Police search for missing Simi Valley mother after ‘significant amount of blood’ found in home

Police are searching for a missing mother of two after a “significant amount of blood” was found in her Simi Valley home on Thursday night.

The missing woman, 25-year-old Rachel Castillo, was reported missing by family members after she was nowhere to be found at her residence.

Officers also found her wallet and keys at the home, according to the Simi Valley Police Department.

Police say Castillo is described as an at-risk person given the circumstances of her disappearance.

‘Around the clock’ search for Simi Valley mom after blood found in home

Simi Valley police are working “around the clock” to find a young mother who vanished from her home, leaving behind her keys, phone, car and “a significant amount of blood.”

Worried relatives of Rachel Castillo, 25, summoned police Thursday evening after her sister discovered the disturbing scene at the apartment they shared on Country Club Drive. Based on the amount of blood and the presence of Castillo’s personal items in the residence and car in her parking spot, detectives have labeled her as potentially “at risk.”

“We want to locate her as soon as possible and we are hoping for the best-case scenario — that she is alive and well,” Simi Valley police Officer Casey Nicholson said. “Investigators are literally working around the clock.”

Castillo was last seen by her sister, Emily, at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the apartment where they lived with Castillo’s two sons, ages 2 and 5.

Her mother, Robyn Castillo, said the boys’ father came to pick them up in the morning and that her daughter was supposed to spend the day working from home at her job as a healthcare navigator for a social services agency.

Police said Castillo’s relatives and the father of her children have been cooperative. Court records show she initiated divorce proceedings this year.

“My understanding is that he has been cooperative right from the beginning,” Nicholson said.

Police Cmdr. Ritchie Lew cautioned that authorities have not “even determined a crime has occurred.”

“We don’t even have a suspect because we don’t know what happened,” Lew said. “What the detectives are trying to figure out is what happened and where she is.”

DIffering info here. Not sure how significant these details may be.

The 25-year-old mother had dropped both of her children off with their father earlier that morning, as planned, Rachel's mother, Robyn Castillo, told the outlet.

Her mother, Robyn Castillo, said the boys’ father came to pick them up in the morning

Also, this video also says the dad picked up the boys. Also, they say she hasn't been dating anyone. She's been working from home for a non-profit that works with domestic violence and child abuse victims.

oh, boy. She might not have been dating anybody, but if she's working with dv victims, that leads me to thinking of who might want to have harmed her.

I think it’s interesting that they said the last person who saw her alive was her sister. What about her children? What about her ex? Have they not talked to them?

This doesn’t look good. Not at all.

I haven't had a moment to read links or follow this but will say if true those are some major red flags right there.

1. She dropped them off.
2. No he picked them up.
3. She works for a non-profit dealing with dv and ca.
4. So he came to her home.
5. There is blood at her home and she is missing...

Well....

Oh and she initiated divorce.

And I should add he picked them up AT her home and she worked FROM her home...

Not a very smart perp imo. Seemed obvious it was him even with limited info. And they found her quickly too, I'm sure cell or vehicle GPS I'd imagine.

$510K is an odd bond amount. Makes me think it is $500K for the murder and another $10 for some other small charge maybe.

May she RIP and another evil perp ROT. Senseless.

I got to see my grandsons and speak to them and he expressed his concern and I just told him we’re doing everything we can … he said he was very sorry and hoped that she was okay. Ex-husband charged with murder of Simi Valley mother of 2

The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office on Tuesday announced that 25-year-old Zarbab Ali has been charged with the murder of his ex-wife, Rachel Castillo.

Ali was also charged with a special allegation of “lying in wait and personal use of a knife,” according to a news release from the D.A.’s office.

Murder charges filed against estranged husband of Simi Valley woman

Prosecutors filed murder charges Tuesday against the man accused of killing his estranged wife, Simi Valley resident Rachel Castillo, 25.

Hawthorne resident Zarbab Ali, 25, was charged with murder and the special allegations of lying in wait and use of a knife, according to the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.

Castillo had filed for divorce from Ali in March, but the case was not resolved, court records show

Castillo's two children were not at home when she was attacked, authorities have said.

An arraignment was initially scheduled for Tuesday afternoon in Ventura County Superior Court but was postponed until Wednesday.

Ali remained in custody with revoked bail at county jail, where he was placed under a level one security watch. Joey Buttitta, a spokesman for the DA's office, said the added surveillance could mean Ali was under suicide watch.

Nasarenko and Simi Valley Police Chief David Livingstone declined to comment on whether Ali confessed to the crime or whether he was waiting around her apartment the day she disappeared. They also declined to provide additional details about the evidence that led them to Castillo's body.

Criminal proceedings against man accused of killing Simi Valley woman to be delayed

Criminal proceedings against the husband of a Simi Valley woman killed late last year will be delayed for six months, a judge decided Monday.

Zarbab Ali, 26, faces charges of murdering his estranged 25-year-old wife, Rachel Castillo, and defiling her remains.

Ali has pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Ventura County Superior Court Judge Patricia Murphy granted the delay in the preliminary proceedings until Oct. 17 after being told the prosecution and defense attorneys had agreed to it. One of the attorneys is said to be unavailable for several months for undisclosed reasons.

Ali, who spoke to the court over video, agreed to the continuance. He said he understood that the delay would postpone the dates of a preliminary hearing and, if warranted, a trial.

He remains confined to the main county jail in Ventura and is ineligible for release.

Murder case court hearing continued to next month

A Hawthorne man charged with the murder of 25-year-old Rachel Castillo from Simi Valley in 2022 is scheduled to appear in court again April 18.

During Zarbab Ali’s most recent appearance in Ventura County Superior Court on Feb. 15, a new date was set for his early disposition hearing conference. Erik Aucoin, a public defender representing the 26-year-old, requested the continuance, saying the defense wasn’t ready to proceed.

Early disposition conferences serve as a platform for both the prosecution and defense to negotiate a plea agreement and potentially avoid a trial.

The continuance was granted by Judge David Hirsch and Deputy District Attorney Courtney Lewis concurred.

A preliminary hearing, in which the prosecution will present evidence in open court to support the criminal charges, was rescheduled to April 22.
