Rachel Morin, Maryland mom of 5, murdered on hiking trail *ARREST*

Seen a couple of brief things on this one. I'd lean to the bf mostly because his statements and behavior aren't adding up BUT it's hard to say. She apparently was in custody battles with three of her kids' dads. Maybe it bothered one of them when she announced she was in a relationship with this new guy. Hard to say.

It may deserve a thread, not that it merits it any more than any other but there is news on it at the moment pretty regularly and it is definitely a whodunit at this point.

The creative way Rachel Morin's attorneys hope to generate new tips in murder case
It’s been nearly a month since police shared surveillance images of the man suspected of killing 37-year-old Rachel Morin.

“Initially the family was very hopeful,” said Randolph Rice, Managing Partner of Rice, Murtha, and Psoras.

The law firm is representing Morin’s family.

Though surveillance images only show the suspect from the side and back, law enforcement said the video evidence generated dozens of tips in the days following its release.

“Unfortunately, the trail has gone a bit cold because they have not been able to put a name to that DNA or to the video itself,” said Rice.

Now the Morin family attorneys are getting creative to generate new leads in this murder investigation.

The revelation prompted a new digital ad campaign, which Rice hopes will move the case forward. On Wednesday, he shared a list of 30 online news publications where ads with the suspect’s photo will run in Spanish.

“[The family doesn’t] want this story to lose steam because the more people that see the video the better chance we have of somebody recognizing this individual,” said Rice.

On Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Harford County Sheriff’s Office said there were no new updates to share in the investigation. The spokesperson said the HCSO is also engaging with the Hispanic population in its search for Morin’s suspected killer.

A video update from Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler, which was shared on social media last week, had both English and Spanish subtitles.

“If we do not apprehend this individual, he will kill again is he has not done so already,” Gahler said, in part.
Makes me think of Dulce's case where the Hispanic community is not going to come forward if they don't have legal status. They need to tell more. How big of a population of Hispanic is there in this area? Has anyone come in recently for seasonal work? This man traveled from coast to coast. That recent case where that poor was it 12 or 13 year old girl was killed and raped and she called her dad at work that someone was pounding on the door, they had lived in like three different states or some such all due to his getting work. And I'd bet they were illegal. Of course that is never said. My point is travel is not unusual with a work out fit or on their own to where they can get work. What places there are known to hire them, etc.? In the IA case of Mollie Tibbets, he was working on a farm there. Again, they tend to stay away from talk of the illegal status AND never come down on the employer either but I'm not saying all this to get into a convo of illegals or opinions on it.

Where I live, there is a large number of Somali. There are also quite a few Asians. I never though knew of much of a Hispanic population until just this past year. Where I work I am starting to realize there are quite a number and maybe that has happened in recent years or was always the case since I've been here b utSteve Goncalves said that his daughter was stuck in her bedroom because of the property layout in Moscow, Idaho, on the night she was murdered. ut I never realized until working out in the public.

One thing I notice is they ALL use cash. Once in a blue moon, one will have a debit card. And I mean if they have a purchase for $5,000, they get out that many hundred dollar bills. Dumb me, at first when I was realizing it I figured they had a penchant for cash more than cards and I do think there may be some truth to that, their counries are generally behind on technology and such some years later than us or used to be anyhow. But of course I quickly realized they are PROBABLY illegals and that's the reason.

Where I am headed here , and my point is, if they look for this man in the area geting gas, eating out, etc. they very likely may NOT be able to match him to a purchase with a card and a name. And even if a vehicle, it may well not match up with him and a name either. In Tibbetts, the car came back to I think it was a cousin or niece or some such who helped him out and put it in her name and so on. She had to testify if I recall.

I think it VERY likely he traveled coast to coast for work. I think it unlikely he was rich, legal and traveling to see the country and visit people. Of course he COULD be involved with drugs or something but more likely I am thinking like Tibbetts who also by the way was out jogging, that guy was working at a farm in the area again. Somewhat transient, going where the work is... He may well have traveled to Maryland however to get away from the crime in Cali and may have friends or family there...

There is another message they need to put out in Spanish and that is that anyone with knowledge who helped, aided, harbored can be subject to charges and that they need not worry about coming forward, etc. if they do the right thing.

I'm not saying he is illegal, who knows, and am not commenting on the issue. The ones who come through our store are very likable but there are a LOT here in crimes we hardly hear of who are hard core criminals and drug cartel types and so forth. I think most of the ones I see would love to be here legally if they could swing it or navigate the b.s. However, they aren't the only ones that cross our borders.

This man could well be wanted in his own country for crimes. Came here to hide and to work and commit more crime. Or, maybe, he has never worked a day in his life. Maybe he is legal and has been for years on end. One would think then though he'd have some kind of record but I guess when you don't have a name you can't determine that...

My speculation and guess on this one: Illegal. Working in the area and traveled there with a group or himself to do so. Staying in housing for the job or with family or friends or coworkers, other illegals in the Hispanic population there. Apparently there is one. He is a bad apple of course and SOMEONE/ONES know him. And know it.
There was a time you mostly only saw such populations in the south, the warmer states, the border states. I think some still think that's the case but it isn't. Who would've thunk? This is Maryland. Dulce's case was in some eastern state too, can't remember which, Connecticut? We don't know who her abductor is but we know they worried about tips from her community of Hispanics since many were illegal.

it doesn't help solve crimes that's for sure when you can't feel safe coming forward.

The comments on this woman. On news feeds. Just ruthless.
About the victim? That's awful.

I don't do much of the news feeds any more or read below them or the chats but yeah, that is where you really see how many nasty people there are in this world. It's like if I watch a trial on Law and Crime versus watching on say Scott Reisch, his chats are moderated well and only his own followers in there, on Law and Crime it is terrible in chat. Not to mention you can't even keep up as too many to read comments. Tons of trolls. Etc. But the news ones are the worst. I used to get sucked in and give it back on occasion lol to the nasties.

Between how she looks and the fact she supposedly was active on dating sites, etc., I am going to guess they'd have a field day is what you are seeing?

From all accounts I've heard, she was a good mother and a good friend and had a caring family and nice kids. That's what I've heard but then I haven't been on other sites like news, etc.

This show isn't live until October 2nd but putting it here for anyone interested.

This case makes me think in a way of Abby and Libby's. Video n both but no one identifies the guy or seems to know who he is. In this one there is even DNA. This was SO BOLD. So was theirs, I don't mean that in an admirable way for a killer, I mean broad daylight in both, public trails, etc. And I certainly don't mean they are cunning or smart because they aren't/weren't. BOTH caught on camera. Etc.

Rachel Morin case: Investigators question someone in DC area

Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler told NewsNation host Ashleigh Banfield that authorities have questioned someone in Washington, D.C., in connection to the case.

“The investigators were working a lead. This was not the result of a tip. This was a result of evidence related to the crime leading our investigators into the D.C.-Metro area where they interviewed an individual relevant to this investigation. It is not a suspect but hopefully somebody who can point us in the right direction to identifying that person,” Gahler said on “Banfield.”

In an emotional moment, Rachel Morin's brother visited the tunnel where the mother of five was murdered along a popular hiking trail in Maryland three months ago.

"This is the final resting place of Rachel," Michael says in the YouTube video published this week by Storytellers.

The footage shows the massive tunnel located near the Ma & Pa Heritage Hiking Trail in Bel Air, Maryland, where Morin, 37, was found dead the morning after she was reported missing on Aug. 5.

"I think about her lying here," Michael said in the video while walking through the dark tunnel.

The area appeared to have no light source other than the sunlight shining at the tunnel's end.

"I wonder if she was half awake, looking at the light, and just saying, 'I just got to make it to that light,'" Michael told Storytellers. "Was she thinking about her kids, thinking about me?

Interesting tactic.

Lawyers in Rachel Morin murder seek help from Los Angeles high schools with investigation
Lawyers representing Morin's family, from the firm Rice, Murtha, Psoras, had 'heartfelt and personalized' letters delivered to principals of five high school in Los Angeles near where the suspect was observed on the security camera footage.

The letter were sent to John C. Fremont High School, Dr. Maya Angelou Community Senior High, Augustus F. Hawkins High School, Mervyn M. Dymally High School, and South East High School.

In addition to the letters, reward flyers were included in both English and Spanish, according to a release from the firm.

"We know the suspect is approximately 20-30 years old, and he may have attended high school around the crime scene in Los Angeles," said Attorney Randolph Rice. "We are hopeful a former teacher, staff, or student recognizes the image and can identify the man."

"Any information that could assist in identifying the perpetrator is encouraged and appreciated," said Rice.

Attended high school in LA area and did a home invasion if I recall and killed a mom in Maryland. The man sure is mobile. What dates are they looking at for high school attendance? And what leads them to this?

I'm guessing he wasn't valedictorian...

Crews installing camera system on Ma and Pa hiking trail where missing mom's body was found

Crews in Harford County started installing a video camera system on the hiking trail where Rachel Morin's body was found in early August.

Investigators continue to search for Morin's killer as the reward for information leading to an arrest is $30,000.

According to the Harford County executive's office, the camera system will be able to detect unusual activity and help find specific persons or vehicles of interest.

"The terrible murder of Rachel Morin shocked our community, and we know that nothing can make up for her loss," Harford County Executive Bob Cassilly said in a statement. "What we can do is increase security on our most popular trail and continue encouraging citizens to look out for one another and keep themselves safe."

The system will cover almost 2 miles of the Ma and Pa Trail from the Williams Street trailhead to North Tollgate Road, focusing on the more isolated stretches along the trail.

Data collected will be securely stored and made accessible to law enforcement and emergency first responders, the county executive's office said.

Workers broke ground on the system Monday to install a conduit for the power infrastructure and fiber cable that will connect to multi-sensor cameras at 26 locations.

Maryland Mom’s Killer ‘Side-Stalks’ Victims, ‘Could Be Guy Standing Next to You,’ Lawyer Warns

An attorney for the family of murdered Maryland mom Rachel Morin is asking the public to be "very aware of those around you" as her killer remains on the loose four months after her murder.

In an interview with Patch, attorney Randolph Rice said he believes the man suspected of killing Morin while she was hiking in Bel Air, Md., near her home in August "could be the guy standing next to you."

"Have you seen that same guy in two different places? Don't consider it a coincidence," Rice told the outlet, explaining that he believes the suspect "side-stalks" his victims.

"Take a pic with your phone, call the sheriff's office, or email our attorney, and we will forward the tip/picture from you," he continued. "You must be diligent for your safety and that of your family. He could be the guy standing next to you."

The Harford County Sheriff's Office, which has been investigating the murder since Morin's body was found on Aug. 6, did not immediately respond when reached by The Messenger for updates on Tuesday.

Dispute erupts over donations raised for children of slain Harford Co. mother of five, Rachel Morin
While questions surrounding the mysterious murder of 37-year-old Rachel Morin still haunt the Harford County Community, new questions are now being raised over money donated to her five surviving children.

Four months after Rachel’s body was found along the popular Ma & Pa walking trail in Bel Air, local law enforcement has yet to make any arrests. Initially, the Morin family conveyed a united front in their hunt for Rachel’s killer, but now, a dispute over money raised for the children seems to be creating a divide.

On Facebook, Matt McMahon, the father of Rachel’s oldest child, is accusing the Morin family of cutting his child out of a GoFundMe for Rachel’s funeral expenses. Rachel’s sister Rebekah Morin is listed as the GoFundMe’s organizer, which has now raised more than $54,000.

Screenshots of the GoFundMe’s description when it was first launched reads in part, “If there are any remaining funds they will go towards things her 5 children may need.” The description now reads, “If there are any remaining funds they will go towards Rachel’s family and things her minor children may need.” MacMahon says his daughter is 18 years old and the only child who is not legally a minor.

Not a good look for either side of it. Don't know enough to take a side but it is sad and tacky imo on both parts from just what is said here because of these two points:

IF they portrayed to those that donated that funeral expenses would be paid and then anything remaining would go to things her FIVE children needed and then changed it after, that is NOT okay. And added themselves, 'the Morin family" OR the children. NOT OKAY. I assume or would hope the funeral expenses have been paid so now it should be in a fund for real needs of any of the five children or divided to them or to their guardians. A guess is that most kids are with the father/s and they don't want the $$ going to them. I mean the fathers of the minor children. No reason they'd be with the Morins if the fathers were involved in their lives. This father though, his daughter is 18 so of course her share should go to her OR again it should be kept in a fund for needs. They probably decided to define better the terms on the GoFundMe after realizing they didn't make it clear what it would be disbursed for, to whom, when, what would qualify as a "need'". Adding selves though is tacky and wrong.

He on the other hand has no stance in any of this. Even if his daughter is one of the five they named. SHE does and could say something or fight something maybe. But dad does not as she is an adult. I CAN understand his speaking up on her behalf, she is young and suffered a major loss.

Sad, all the way around. The fact a GFM from the start would be a thing and that is the thing now that even is at issue is sad. Her killer has not even been caught and all her kids I'd think know he is still out there as do these adults.

That's what I'd think the focus would be for all.

Rachel Morin investigation: Reward increased to $35K in Maryland mother's death

The reward for information leading to the arrest of Rachel Morin's killer increased Monday to $35,000, the law firm representing the family said.

The increase comes after a $5,000 donation from Mile Higher, a true crime podcast, hosted by husband-and-wife Josh Thomas and Kendall Rae.

"We are profoundly grateful to the Mile Higher Podcast for their generous contribution to the Rachel Morin Reward Fund," lawyer Randolph Rice said in a statement. "This increase in funds represents the solidarity of the community in their relentless pursuit of justice for Rachel Morin. It sends a clear message that we will leave no stone unturned in our efforts to find answers and bring the man responsible to justice."

It has been nearly six months since the Maryland mother of five was found dead in the Ma and Pa Heritage Trail in Harford County.

On Monday, Maryland police released composite sketches of the man they believed killed a woman on a hiking trail last year.

According to WBFF, Hartford County investigators believe Rachel Morin’s killer was in the area days before the slaying. The sketch was finalized after detectives conducted more than 100 interviews and looked into more than 1,000 tips.

No arrests have been made in the slaying of Morin, 37, whose body was found in a drainage ditch on the Ma and Pa trail on August 6, a day after her boyfriend reported her missing.

“He attacked Rachel on the trail and pulled her through the wooded area into this drainage culvert where she ultimately lost her life,” Captain Andy Lane said during a recent podcast about the crime. “The location of the attack was chosen… because those culverts were as close as they were and they provided an area for this person to commit this crime and not be seen by members of the public.”

Rachel Morin Investigation: Mother speaks about new details in daughter's unsolved murder

It has been more than six months since the mother of five was murdered along a popular hiking trail in Harford County.

Despite the case getting international attention, and some key pieces of evidence being released, it remains unsolved.

Morin's mother spoke with WJZ's Jessica Albert about if she feels an arrest is coming.

Jessica Albert: I asked you the last time we sat down if you felt like we're getting closer to finding her killer. With all of this information out there now, do you feel like we're closer?

Patty Morin: I think in one sense we are because now we have a face. When you see that picture, the first thing that ran through my mind, and I'm sure it's run through everyone's mind, was, 'Have I seen that person?'

Patty Morin, the mother of Rachel Morin, has renewed hope now that new details have been released in her daughter's case, including the biggest lead yet, a sketch of the suspect.

The Harford County Sheriff's Office gave the update last week during a 40-minute podcast episode.

We now know investigators believe the suspect hid on the Ma and Pa Trail in August 2023, in Bel Air, attacked Morin and pulled her into a drainage culvert.

Morin went for a walk and didn't return. Police said her car was located the next day at the trailhead.

Detectives also shared more about the March 2023 Los Angeles home invasion connected with Morin's murder suspect.

They believe it was random, revealing several people were attacked in that home, including a child. The suspect left a hat containing his DNA behind.

The sketch of the suspect was put together using a video from the L.A. attack plus statements from the victims in L.A. and witnesses who believe they saw the suspect on the trail.

Jessica Albert: Did you know any of those details prior to them releasing them?

Patty Morin: They gave us that information just before they released them.

Patty Morin understands why detectives kept these details close to the chest.

"I appreciate that they're preserving the integrity of the investigation so that it's a solid case when the tip comes," she said.

The new revelations gave Patty Morin the strength to revisited the trail recently.

"I actually went to the place where they said they found her," she said. "I didn't know where it was before. Ii didn't want to know because it was just too painful. I went and I sat where what would've been Rachel's last few minutes that she would've been alive. It just makes me more than anything to want to find this person. Like, Rachel died for no reason."

There's currently a $35,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case.
