Case of a boy who disappeared 10 years ago in Famalicão goes to the Public Prosecutor's Office

Rui Pereira disappeared from Famalicão on Monday ten years ago. Without new data, the case was transferred from the Judicial Police to the Public Prosecutor's Office about a month ago. Only the parents still have hope.
"The lawsuit concerning the disappearance of Rui Manuel Correia Pereira is no longer in the Northern Board Judicial Police and has been transferred to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Vila Nova de Famalicão," the source of the Judicial Police (PJ) in Porto told Lusa. The next step will be archiving.
Rui Pereira disappeared ten years ago, on March 2, 1999, when he played in Sinças Park, near the neighborhood where he lived.
"We have never changed phones or homes, because one day when Rui can call or come back, we want him to meet us where he left us." The hope that resists is Laurinda Meira, the mother of Rui Pereira.
The 24-year-old's family lives "suspended" waiting for any clue as to his whereabouts. The same goes for police searches.
"Only if new clues arise is that the case returns to the Judiciary Police," said PJ source.
"Nobody gives up on Rui and we all think he's stuck or drugged anywhere and one day he's going to go home," says his mother, who just wants to have faith in the clues that seem to come up from time to time. Very often.
"There are people who say they saw him in Switzerland, but for three years we have not had any information from PJ." Laurinda Meira is once again speaking, who "generates" in solitude the absence of her son, in the long intervals of time without her husband, emigrated in France goes for many years.
"I speak with his photograph every night, the whole family walks with his photograph in his wallet and I guarantee that if I saw him now, even ten years later, I recognized him," he said.
The investigation into the disappearance of the child has always fought against the lack of clues, says Lusa source PJ.
The only facts set out in the file merely state that on the afternoon of 2 March Rui played with a friend in the park when he was called by the driver of a car. "My son went to talk to the man, got in the car and we never knew anything about him again," her mother recalled.
Laurinda's faith in finding the son seems to have no end. However, he assured Lusa that the greatest support he received was Filomena Teixeira, the mother of Rui Pedro, the boy from Lousada who disappeared a year and a day before Rui Pereira.
"It's all very strange, the two boys have the same name, lived in lands close to each other and disappeared within a year," says the mother of the youth of Famalicão.
Rui Pedro Teixeira Mendonça was the first media case of the disappearance of a child in Portugal. He disappeared on March 4, 1998 when he rode a bicycle and was never seen again.
The mother never gave up looking for her son: she appealed to several authorities, created the site
www.ruipedro.net and founded the Portuguese Association of Missing Children. Eleven years after the death of Rui Pedro, Filomena is hospitalized in a hospital in Oporto.
"Someone, somewhere in the world, knows what happened and where my son is and I believe the truth will be known," hopes Laurinda Meira.
