Family pleads for help to find missing 12-year-old Utah girl

A Glendale mother pleads for help finding her 12-year-old daughter, who went missing Monday afternoon while walking home from Glendale Middle School.

Olvera Peralda said her daughter, Santa Gloria Olvera, calls her every day on her way home from summer school to check in, but when she didn’t call by 1:10 p.m. and then wouldn’t answer her phone, she worried something was wrong.

“The third call, she didn’t answer either, and from there, the cell phone was turned,” Olvera Peralda said.

The mother said she left work and started calling her daughter’s friends; however, the last time any of them recalled seeing her was at school.

The family reported the missing girl to Salt Lake City police. They then began canvasing the neighborhood and located several security videos that they believe show a person in a hooded sweatshirt approaching Olvera from behind as she was walking home, and aggressively grabbing her arm.

“A boy or a man comes behind her, and grabs her, almost threatening her,” Olvera Peralda said.

KSL TV obtained the video from the homeowner, as well as a second security video from a resident about a block away that appears to capture Olvera running from the person in the hooded sweatshirt across a church lawn.

Salt Lake City police confirmed Tuesday that they have copies of the security videos and say they’re investigating Olvera’s disappearance, but they say they can’t confirm if the woman in the video is her.

The family has suspicions of who was caught on camera grabbing Olvera and chasing her, and they said they’ve given the information to police to investigate. In the meantime, she’s pleading for the public to keep an eye out for her.

Mother grows increasingly concerned as Salt Lake City girl remains missing

Santa Gloria’s mother, María José Olvera Peralda, is worried something bad will happen to her daughter. The family lives right around the corner from the middle school, and María knew something was wrong when Santa Gloria didn’t come home from school Monday afternoon.

After calling the police, family and friends went around the neighborhood, asking if anyone had seen Santa Gloria. A few neighbors went through their security cameras, and found video that shows a girl and a man walking together; the family believes it to be Santa Gloria.

“It put me in anguish, because in one video it shows her basically running away," said María. "In another video it shows her being grabbed and it was kind of worrying, very worrying.”

SLCPD: Missing girl ran away; was found at house of boyfriend, 13

The girl, identified by SLCPD public relations news releases as Santa Gloria Olvera, was found at the Poplar Grove neighborhood residence of her 13-year-old boyfriend.

“Olvera is now with her legal guardian,” an SLCPD PR update says. “Detectives have also confirmed Olvera ran away from home on Monday.”

The girl was found at 3:40 a.m. Wednesday, the statement says.

“When officers found Olvera, they made sure she did not need medical attention for any physical injuries. Officers did not find any signs of physical injury or trauma.”

Officers worked with detectives from the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Special Victims Unit to analyze the video and to collect additional video that provided more context,” the police statement says. “Detectives confirmed the female running in the video was in fact Olvera. They also confirmed the other person in the video was her boyfriend.

“Throughout this investigation, officers and detectives quickly determined there was no evidence to suggest a kidnapping or that Olvera was in imminent danger.”

The girl’s disappearance did not meet the criteria for a state-wide Amber Alert, the statement says.

“After being safely found, detectives spoke with Olvera who told them she in fact ran away but stayed nearby and received assistance from her boyfriend. This case is not considered a criminal matter.”

Not criminal but a video shows she runs and someone in a hooded sweatshirt catches up to her. I guess that's not criminal but it sure isn't just an "'okay, it was just a 12 year old and her bf" and who knows why it looks like she was running from him. Assuming of course it was them in the video..

Yeah it probably isn't criminal but just an out of control preteen or one who is pressured by a bf. Either way hope they get some help with it.

I am relieved she is okay.

Yes. But Damknit!!! Put people through he77! Friggin' kids. 12 years old to run away with her boyfriend. I wouldn't allow that at 12. Not nowadays. I remember when I was 12. I DO! And that was...Well. I was no angel. 13 was worse. I'm happy you're safe. But I am pizzed. You're grounded. Until what year I decide you're not. That would be my response.

Yeah and the parents definitely need to get a handle on her. She isn't even in her teens yet, they have a long way to go with a child already acting out in such a way.
