Family says missing woman was pulled into random vehicle in SW Houston

Community activist Quanell X, along with family and friends of a missing Houston woman came together to pass out missing person flyers to bring attention to her disappearance.

Sara Goodwin, 18, was last seen at the intersection of South Course Drive and Bissonnet Street in southwest Houston. She was apparently pulled into a white 2015-2017 model Honda CRV by an unidentified man on Feb. 6, according to a release.

That same man was spotted in the same intersection allegedly attempting to lure two other women into his vehicle, according to Quanell X.

Goodwin’s cellphone was later recovered on the side of the road, three blocks away from the scene she was taken from.

The Houston Police Department released the following statement about the case:

“The missing persons investigation is an open investigation. From surveillance video, it does show that the missing person willingly got into the vehicle seen on camera.”

Quanell X joins search efforts for 18-year-old girl who went missing from SW Houston earlier this month

Family and friends of 18-year-old Sara Goodwin are asking for the community’s help.

Goodwin has been missing since Feb. 6. She was last seen in the area of S. Course Drive and Bissonnet Street in southwest Houston.

Those close to Goodwin have sought the help of Houston Activist Quanell X. He took on the case. During a press conference on Thursday, they explained how they believe Goodwin was taken against her will.

“It just hurts, the fact that she’s just out here,” Sara’s friend, Jessica Finn, said.

Goodwin’s friends were able to recover her cell phone at the Victoria Park Apartment Complex on S. Corner St. The group held search efforts at the apartment complex on Thursday. They passed out missing person flyers.

They said they’ve gotten little to no help from investigators.

Surveillance video they were able to get from a nearby car dealership shows the 18-year-old getting into a car. The car was described as a 2015 to 2017 four-door, gray Honda CRV.

Quanell X said the car has been seen by sex workers in the area who say the person inside had a gun.

“That same vehicle was seen cruising around after Sara’s abduction,” he said.

Finn said Goodwin was involved in sex work. She stressed there’s more to her friend than that.

"She a has a 15-year-old brother that she will die for ... that she basically raises,” Finn said.

Finn said Goodwin is a daughter and a loving sister who they’re hoping to bring back home.

"I know that she is scared and worried and I want her to know that people care about her," Finn said.

If others have seen the car before and a guy inside has a gun and they were trying to lure women, then I would be worried about her safety, especially at 18. I pray she is found safe.

However, there are a couple odd things here from the get go.

It says she was pulled into a vehicle. It says the same car was seen at the same intersection trying to lure two women in. and then the Houston PD says she got in willingly. Now that doesn't mean she didn't get in willingly and then end up in a very bad spot and obviously something is wrong as she has been gone 12 days.

I mean this in no way whatsoever other than to state facts. A car trying to lure people in from the same street corner when it is said she is a sex worker seems to indicate this is that type of street corner and don't drivers call out and the women walk up to the cars or open windows? What I am saying is when they say luring, or trying to lure two women in, it is hard to figure here if the person was doing any differently than all men cruising a street corner as this do. The part about the man having a gun is concerning and the fact others had concern about him or so it seems and this car. if this car had been around and the driver concerning others though, I imagine they were able to give LE a plate number and very good description of the car and likely the driver if someone saw a gun and others were concerned. Was the word not passed by the the other women lured, etc. to all the women to watch out for that car and driver...?

And then the cell phone makes no sense to me. If she got in the car at this street corner but her friends just lucked out and found her phone in an apartment complex parking lot? How did they know to look there? And didn't she have it on her when getting in the car? Or did they go there as it is her apartment complex and just lucked out and found her phone? And if it was, then she was apparently home after the man pulled her into the car no...?

Just first impression and thoughts.

I used to cringe when Quanell X was involved however he has truly stepped up to help the community. Let's hope he finds out who's behind the wheel of that car.

I go a bit both ways on him... I had never heard of him until the Maleah Davis case which wow, that case and what unfolded... That poor little girl. He was very involved in that one. So was TX Equusearch at a point and the finding of her body was a bit hard to understand how it all went down after how long but I put it down to things not shared in the investigation and such... I was at JT at the time, I'm pretty sure... In fact it is one I should follow up on and search for an update as I wonder if that "stepdad" ever was tried and what happened... It was one of the first ones if not the first one where I had to wonder why they called him stepdad (media, etc.) as they were never married... At that time, I put it down to that was what the mother wanted all to think, that they were married. However now I see this ALL of the time ever since... Media calling a bf of a year or a month or even days the "stepdad"... Pet peeve... It isn't that someone can't live together with someone for 40 years and of course that mate is and has been a father to their children but in cases, get it correct in media please. That Australian case just recently where the bf or fiance killed the girl, they called him in several articles her stepdad and he was NOT.

But anyhow, back on track, that vent/pet peeve over, in that case is where I came to know of Quanell and the case was followed pretty hot and closely by those into crimes there and I think most places online and many knew who he was from prior things and both good and bad things were said...

He got a "confession" out of the guy in the Maleah case but that entire case, things were just odd... Probably the investigation and not releasing some while he was and maybe could where investigators can't? And both Quanell and even TX Equusearch bring them both talking to media beyond the already pretty heavy media involvement...

I don't have a good or bad opinion. I don't know enough. It is the only one I saw him in. But he did get a confession out of the lying perp... I think that was Houston too or a suburb.

Being that other sex workers saw this vehicle in the area trying to get women, and that Sara is also a sex worker, and that she seems to have entered the vehicle under her own power, it's likely that's what was happening. If there was a gun involved in getting her to enter the car that obviously raises the concern level. And then her not returning and having her phone found nearby is extra concerning.

The headline of the article from KHOU above (post #2) seems to have been changed, saying that she was seen "trying to get out" of the vehicle. Nothing in the article has been added to reflect that. But the video from earlier has Quanell X saying the same thing.

I am waiting for it to shake itself out. Media reporting right out of the gate it seems these days is always a problem. And maybe that is why the article changed as someone called them on it, I didn't read she was trying to get out when I posted...

Well that's kind of what I was saying. If this car and guy has been seen so much there must be a plate etc. or great description. So Quanell says HPD could get the plate and others say the car has been back in the area even after she was taken. Doesn't seem like it would be too hard and that someone must know who he is as well or know more about it... I see no reason HPD shouldn't then have that plate and driver already. I agree.

She has been gone almost two weeks so clearly there is something wrong. He has apparently been back in the area with no sign of her. The cell phone still bothers me, did he throw it out a window, stop, let her out, etc....? How many people can be seen in the car because driving, throwing phones out and trying to hold a gun on her all at the same time wouldn't be that easy I wouldn't think.

If this is the last sighting of her and HPD can get the plate or the car and the driver, they should have done so or be doing so. In one of the first articles, HPD said she got in the car willingly as if that says it all? Well maybe she did but if that car has been back and she hasn't, then something is odd and she is a missing person JUST like any other and only 18 years old as well. She is in a high risk profession but I only say that because due to that VERY fact, they should be CONCERNED.

Police charge man with murder in Sara Goowin case

Police has charged a man in the death of 19-year-old woman that they believe to be Sara Goodwin, who has been missing since Feb. 6.

Houston police arrested and charged Henry David Cossette, 28, with murder, arson and tampering with evidence on Monday.

Last Saturday, Feb. 19, Cossette set his apartment on fire and admitted to killing a 19-year-old woman and leaving her body at the 1800 block of Fellow Road in south Houston, investigators said. The woman’s remains were recovered.

While the body is still being identified, police believe it is Goodwin due to the information that Cossette provided.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was consulted and Cossette was subsequently charged for his role in the woman’s death, police said.

$1.35M bond set for man accused of dismembering Houston 18-year-old who went missing on Feb. 6

A judge has set a $1,350,000 bond for the 28-year-old man accused of murdering 18-year-old Sara Goodwin, the Houston woman who had been missing since early February.

Henry David Cossette is accused of strangling Goodwin before dismembering her body and hiding the remains. Police say Cossette then burned down his house to try to die by suicide.

Cossette was scheduled to go before a judge on Tuesday, but due to medical reasons, he was not in court. The charges against Cossette were still read in court in his absence.

Cossette was given a $1 million bond for the murder charge, a $250,000 bond on the charge of tampering with evidence of a human corpse and a $100,000 bond for the arson charge.

Goodwin was last seen on Feb. 6 near the 8600 block of S. Course Drive and Bissonnet in southwest Houston. Authorities believe she was killed that same day.

Nearly two weeks later, on Saturday, Feb. 19, Houston police officers and the Houston Fire Department responded to a fire intentionally set inside an apartment at the address where Goodwin was last seen.

Investigators say Cossette was found inside the apartment and admitted to killing Goodwin before leaving her body in the 1800 block of Fellows Road, about 15 minutes away.

Goodwin's body has been recovered.

So they got him, she was last seen at an apartment and not getting into the car last and sadly she IS dead. It is unclear if the guy they got is the one she got into the car with or not. I read both articles and it really doesn't say.

I think it matters because that guy was cruising and looking for others or so it sounded and this would then be more stranger type of murder and if that's the case, I'd be looking into him, not saying he is a serial killer but he was looking for "anyone" or so it seemed... Now on the other hand if it is let's say an ex-boyfriend, that wouldn't likely be the case necessarily.

Since friends and us thought she was last seen getting into a car but now it is at an apartment, I'd like to know if it is the same guy and he was the owner of the car...

May she RIP.

$1.2M bond set for Henry David Cossette who went before judge and claimed self-defense

The man charged in the gruesome murder of 18-year-old Sara Goodwin appeared in court Thursday and claimed his actions were done in self-defense.

Henry David Cossette, 27, is accused of strangling Goodwin before dismembering her body earlier this month and hiding the remains. Cossette remains in jail on a $1,200,000 bond for her murder.

After court Thursday, Cossette's attorney said everything is not the way it seems.

"At this point, he had indicated that this was a self-defense situation. I haven't had an opportunity to do my own investigation to see the facts, but this is America and everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law," said attorney Kevin Howard.

‘This man ain’t crazy’: Family of 18-year-old woman demands no bond for man charged with her murder in SW Houston

The family of 18-year-old Sara Goodwin joined Community Activist Quanell X to protest the bond given to a man who was charged in connection to the young woman’s death.

Henry David Cossette, 27, was arrested and charged with murder, tampering with evidence, and arson on Feb. 17. His bond was set at $1.2 million.

Quanell X believes that Cossette shouldn’t receive a bond for his actions against Goodwin. He told reporters during the news conference that he allegedly lied to the judge to grant him a bond.

“This was a planned abduction. He kidnapped that woman, killed her, chopped her up, and threw her in a field, and now he’s trying to play crazy,” said Quanell X. “This man ain’t crazy. He knew exactly what he was doing. Even after he killed [Sara Goodwin], he was still riding around to pick up more women.”

A 1.2 million dollar bond is extremely high. "No bond" cases have to be capital murder I think in TX. Not up on if this one qualifies and even then a judge doesn't have to go "no bond".

Personally, I think there should be no bond in any case where the person is a threat to society.

I don't disagree at all but just saying it isn't necessarily a choice they have. Bonds are notoriously lower than the million mark in many states, even with murder. There is a LOT I'd like to see change about our laws, bond, sentencing and more.

It is a high bond for a murder. There are higher profile cases where the bond is only that or even less. I understand the family's and friend's indignation and outrage over it totally but it isn't the first thing here they are likely to encounter as they go through the criminal process that they will be unhappy with.

They may be different types of murders (and no bodies) but Morphew is OUT on bond, Fotis Dulos and what's her face were OUT on bond, etc. Bond is set more often than not in murder cases I think and you can only hope it is high and unattainable.
