Brother still missing after 2 kidnapped kids discovered

Investigators from Biscayne Park Police are concerned about a 16-year-old teenager after his two siblings were found in Northeast Miami-Dade after being reported kidnapped from Tennessee, but he has not been located.

The police detective who found a 13-year-old girl that led him to her the home where she was being kept is a father himself. He said he won’t stop until all three children have been found. The 9 year-old sister was “terrified,” hiding in a closet in the house.

Kevin Swartz, detective with the Village of Biscayne Park Police, spotted the 13-year-old wandering near Griffin Boulevard and Northeast 118 St. Thursday, three miles away from the house she was eventually able to describe to the detective.

Their mother, 45-year-old Sandra Bates, faced a Miami-Dade County Judge after being arrested on an out-of-state warrant for kidnapping.

The girl, also named Sandra, was described by Swartz, when he found her as disoriented, saying it was difficult to distinguish if she had been drugged or if she had a learning or mental disability.

“Her hair was a bit disheveled, the shirt she had on had maybe a four or five inch tear, her pants were a little dirty and she had no shoes on.”

She had injuries to her foot from running away from the home in Northeast Miami Dade.

She was transported to the hospital where the Department of Children and Families were notified. It was then discovered that Sandra and her brother and sister had been reported kidnapped from Tennessee nearly a year ago.

The girl led investigators back to the home, where she said her 9-year-old sister Sara, and 16-year-old brother, Sevario were being kept.

Swartz said he found the younger girl hiding in a closet.

“She was like a scared cat. She was as far in the corner as she could be. She was terrified.”

Bates was located inside the town home off Northeast 150 Street and 13th Avenue.

“We don’t want to let the mother just get away with kidnapping charges if there were other things that happened to these children,” Swartz said.

There is still no sign of 16-year-old Servario Bates.

Their mother, Sandra, is expected to be extradited back to Memphis, Tenn. It is not clear if she will face additional charges for the sex trafficking allegations.

Memphis children missing for nearly a year found alive near Miami; mother facing charges

Two children missing for nearly a year in Memphis have been found near Miami and now their mother is facing charges.

Officers said one of the children was admitted to a hospital while the other is in protective custody, CBS Miami reported. A 15-year-old boy is still missing.

Police say they were kidnapped by their mother, Sandra Bates, and this isn’t the first time she’s accused of doing it.

Police fear the children may have been trafficked.

Bates was arrested and charged with kidnapping. She allegedly abducted the girls and their teenage brother after all three ran away from a foster home in southeast Memphis last September.

This morning police are still searching for the brother, Servario Bates. Police believe he was in Florida with his siblings but he was not there when officers searched the home.

Here is a short article from their initial disappearance.
They were also reported missing in 2016.

Wow. This sounds so strange. A foster home for one thing loses three children from the home and never realized until gone? I read quickly so maybe I missed something but it almost makes me think the foster home may have been a relative, is that at all possible? Those types of things or who we often never here due to privacy... One reason I wonder is the comment is the foster parent wasn't worried about them allegedly being okay or safe? (knowing maybe they were with mom)? I do realize that was before this more recent abduction... And the mom again? Happy two are located now but yah, where is the son and as the eldest my thoughts just go to he had more time that he was maybe somewhat influenced or "programmed" by mom... OR is old enough to have gone his own way...

Glad the girls are safe and hope he is found safe.

Yeah I really hope he was able to get away and is hanging out somewhere safe on his own. I do worry though, with the condition of the girls. And the sex trafficking allegations, of course...

I volunteer with foster kids. And it can be so heartbreaking. No matter what the bio parent is accused of doing, 99% of them just want to be with that bio parent again anyway. Especially the young ones. :(

It is so great that you do that. What does it involve? I myself would like to find something in which I feel I am making some small difference in this crazy world.

I hope too he is safe. One thing that is hopeful it sounds like the sister said he was staying there too. I hope that means she has seen him and that it was recently.

I had to read the trafficking thing twice as I did not see quite where it comes from--I sure hope they did not go through that!

There was a case near one of my areas where a mother pimped out her two young children for drugs/money. It was horrible. People were threatening her, a petition was going around to send to the judge and more, just explaining that to show it was a very bad one/case... All of a sudden the case was dropped if I recall correctly. It was shocking. I know part was (I think) that the one child, probably the key witness, did not want to testify against her mother or in court. I think another part may have been procedural, I don't quite recall. It just makes me think of this here if that occurred and what the children will still have to possibly go through with a court process, it is so sad.

I should look that one up as I wonder if she ever did get any time, last I knew she was free. There were also men of course, not sure how many or if all of them were charged who paid her.

The sad thing here is as well that these children were already in foster care and that likely means it is where they will go again doesn't it? Just so sad when there isn't another family member that could step up, they've apparently been through plenty of he77 already or so it appears.

Not to get too far sidetracked here, but I volunteer at an "emergency sanctuary". It's for kids who are just being removed from their homes. So often these kids have to spend the first few days at a police station, or in a social workers car, or a hotel, or some other obscene place. Instead of that, they can place the kids with us for up to a week while they work out their more long-term placement. Here's a bit more about it if you're interested: https://amaraputskidsfirst.org/programs-initiatives/emergency-sanctuary/ Maybe there's something like it in your area. (We're unfortunately shut down right now due to COVID though. :( )

Yes, unfortunately. :( I assume they're in care right now. The first article above said (I snipped it out but it's at the link) that the girls have a hearing on 9/21 to decide their placement. Hopefully a family member can step in.

I don't want to sidetrack it either, but thank you for answering It is nice to know something like that exists although not sure such things do in these areas or not. Something I might look into. Pretty sad Covid shut it as there may be more need than usual lately.

I hope too there is some family member here who can step in. And I pray he is found safe.

Biscayne Park Police ‘Very Concerned’ About Missing Memphis Teen Servario Bates Believed To Be In South Florida

Biscayne Park police is asking for the public’s help in finding a 16-year-old missing Tennessee boy who is believed to be in South Florida.

Detectives are worried about his safety and they’re not sure if he is still in Miami Dade County.

Detective Rodney Schwartz said last week, “He is a boy here all alone from Tennessee with no relatives in this area that we know of and no money. So we are very concerned at this moment.”

Initially, the Village of Biscayne Park Police Department said in a press release, they are concerned the three siblings could be possible victims of human trafficking in Miami-Dade County.

It appears Servario has been found. He is no longer listed with NCMEC, and is not listed on the TBI missing children's database. He would be 18 now. Hopefully he's doing well.
