On the morning of June 2, 2011, Siriyakorn Siriboon - known as Bung to her family and friends - left her east Melbourne home to make the 10-minute walk to her school.

But as the teacher called the roll that morning, Bung was absent. The teachers presumed Bung was sick.

By about 4pm, Bung's parents began to wonder where their daughter was.

Soon after, their phone rang. It was Bung's friend Dyamai, wanting to tell her about something that was planned for school the next day.

This was how Bung's parents learned that she had not made it to class.

It has now been eight years that Bung has been missing. The police door-knocked more than 1000 doors to try and determine what had happened to the young teen, but in 2013 the investigative team on Bung's disappearance was shut down.

There remains a $1 million reward for information leading to the conviction for Bung's disappearance.

Taylor and Bung always walked to school together. The one day they didn't, Bung disappeared.

Each morning, 13-year-old Bung Siriboon would make the short 10 minute walk from her east Melbourne home to school.

On the way she’d meet up with her friends, but on the morning of June 2, 2011, Bung walked alone.

At school, Bung’s friends listened as her name was called. Eight years on, they still remember the deafening silence as she wasn’t there to answer back.

Bung, whose real name was Siriyakorn but was known by everyone as her nickname, never made it to class.

Bung had always been an enthusiastic, diligent student so her teachers assumed she was sick. Her mother and step father had said goodbye to her about 8.30am and had no reason to believe she wasn’t at school.

After school, Bung was always home on time. About 3.40pm.

According to an SBS investigation, At 4pm, Bung’s mother Vannida wondered out loud where her daughter was.

Then the phone rang.

Bung’s stepdad Fred Pattison answered to hear Bung’s friend Dyamai on the other end. She wanted to tell Bung about something that was planned for school tomorrow.

This was how Bung's parents learned that she had not made it to class.

"That's when the penny dropped," Fred told A Current Affair. "That's when we started to panic."

For eight years, Bung has been missing. The police door-knocked more than 1000 doors to try and determine what had happened to the young teen, but in 2013 the taskforce set up to investigate Bung's disappearance was shut down as its leads dried up.

Speaking to A Current Affair, Bung's friends spoke of the pain of not knowing what had happened to her.

Close friend Taylor said she struggled with her decision not to walk with Bung to school on the morning on June 2.

"I remember it clear as day, walking with my brother and he asked if I wanted to [walk with Bung] and I don't know why, but I said no.

"I really regret it that I didn't walk with her that day, that was something that is really hard to live with."

Fresh appeal in Bung Siriboon investigation 10 years after schoolgirl's disappearance

Police are appealing for anyone who can provide valuable information on what happened to missing Melbourne schoolgirl Siriyakorn "Bung" Siriboon to come forward.

Bung has been missing for 10 years and despite several potential leads, investigators still don't know what happened to her.

Detective Leading Senior Constable Justin Tippett said thousands of pieces of information had been sifted through and every week investigators still receive phone calls.

"Ten years is a long time to go without answers and I'm sure the loss of Bung feels as raw today as it did in 2011," Senior Constable Tippett said.

"On today's anniversary, our thoughts are with Bung's family especially her mother Nid, father Fred and sister.

"We continue to encourage people to come forward with new information that may assist police.

"We have never given up hope that one day we will be able to find out exactly what happened to Bung that day."

This Australian girl vanished while walking to school alone, leaving behind a haunting trail of questions that linger 12 years on - as she remains missing in silence

The unsolved mystery of a bright young student who disappeared while on her walk to school continues to confound investigators 12 years after she vanished.

Siriyakorn 'Bung' Siriboon, 13, was usually joined by one of her Year 7 classmates on the 1km walk to Boronia Heights College from her home in Melbourne's outer-east.

But on the morning of June 2, 2011, she waved goodbye to her stepfather Fred Pattison and headed to school on her own, wearing her blue and white uniform and carrying her backpack.

She never made it to school and never returned home to her older sister Pang, mum Vanidda and stepdad.

Her parents tried to reach her on her mobile phone, only to realise their girl had left her phone at home that day.

Twelve years on, Bung's disappearance continues to baffle police, despite a $1million reward, numerous leads and a renewed public appeal two years ago.

Her family's long campaign for answers has not let up, and they recently marked another anniversary of Bung's disappearance and birthday with prayers at Melbourne's Wat Dhammarangsee Buddhist temple. She would have turned 25 in June.

In a bid to encourage potential witnesses to come forward, police have made an offer of immunity, promising protection from prosecution to anyone providing information that leads to the identification of the main offender, or offenders, involved in Bung's disappearance.

A substantial reward of $1million continues to stand, awaiting the crucial information that could lead to the conviction of the person accountable for Bung's disappearance.

Just weeks prior to Bung's disappearance, a similar unsettling incident occurred in Melbourne's eastern suburbs.

On her way to school, an 11-year-old schoolgirl of Asian descent was walking along Bennett Street in Boronia when she encountered a older man wearing a white surgical mask. The man tried to lure her into his vehicle, but the courageous young girl quickly threatened to use her mobile phone and managed to escape.

Police have taken note of the disturbing parallels between these cases. Additionally, there was another reported incident of an attempted abduction involving a 16-year-old girl on June 21, although limited information is available regarding this incident.
