Circumstances of Discovery
The victim's nude body was found weighted down in Lake Pontchartrain by a fishermen just east of the Interstate 10 twin spans and about 50 yards from the north shore June 19, 1986.

A plastic bag was placed over her face, secured with gray duct tape and a 22-pound weight tied to her neck. She had suffered numerous stab wounds to her facial area as well.

Detectives think she might have been married because of markings indicating she had worn a ring on her left hand. Based on information from meteorologists and marine biologists, detectives concluded the body likely was dumped in the lake between Bayou Lacombe and the Rigolets Pass.

An autopsy revealed the woman died of asphyxia a day or two before the body was discovered.

Detectives tried to identify the woman through her silicone breast implants. But the implants did not have serial numbers, and detectives were unable to trace them to the doctor who performed the surgery. She is believed to not be local to the area.

Slidell Jane Doe, also known as Lake Pontchartrain Jane Doe, was a young woman found murdered in 1986 in Louisiana.

Discovery
The woman's body was found in Lake Pontchartrain after presumably floating from another location. The victim died from asphyxiation and a plastic bag was secured by duct tape around her head. She had been stabbed several times in the face as well. A weight had been tied around her neck as an attempt to keep the body from resurfacing.


Characteristics
The victim had auburn hair.
She had well-cared for teeth without any dental work.
Her wisdom teeth were removed and some teeth were missing, possibly being lost after death.
She had freckles.
The victim was likely in a vehicle accident or similar event prior to death, based on healed injuries to her hips.
She appeared to have had facial reconstruction surgery on her face as well as a rhinoplasty.
She had silicone breast implants.
She was of slim build.
She was three months pregnant.

After 38 years, Slidell Jane Doe (1986) is now Identified

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s & Coroner’s Offices Team with Othram to Identify a 1986 Homicide Victim

In 2022, the St Tammany Sheriff’s Office submitted forensic evidence to Othram in The Woodlands, Texas to determine if advanced DNA testing could help identify the woman. Othram scientists successfully developed a DNA extract from the evidence and then used Forensic-Grade Genome Sequencing® to build a comprehensive DNA profile for the woman. Othram's in-house forensic genetic genealogy team used the profile in a genetic genealogy search to develop new investigative leads that were returned to law enforcement.

Using this new information, a follow-up investigation was conducted leading investigators to potential relatives of the woman. Reference DNA samples were collected from the potential relative and compared to the DNA profile of the unknown woman. This investigation led to the positive identification of the woman, who is now known to be Pamela Lee Hupp, who was born April 28, 1958. Pamela was twenty-eight years old and pregnant with her second child, at the time of her murder. The investigation into Pamela’s death is active and ongoing.

It's taken 38 years, but Louisiana authorities have finally identified a woman whose body was found floating in Lake Pontchartrain.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office said the homicide victim's body was found June 19, 1986, near the Interstate 10 Twin Span bridges close to Slidell. For years, she was known only as "Lake Lady Jane Doe."

The woman, who was found by a fisherman, was estimated to be between the ages of 20 and 30 years old, stood 5'4" tall, and weighed 126 pounds, according to Othram, the DNA lab that helped identify her.

The woman has now been identified as Pamela Lee Hupp, also known as Deborah Gail Justice, the sheriff's office said in a news release Tuesday. Hupp, who was born in April 1958, was pregnant at the time of her death, and her last known residence was in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, authorities said.

"I want to thank the many investigators over the years who worked on this case and sought out available resources and technology to identify and give a name to the victim," Sheriff Randy Smith said. "Our detectives will not stop working until they have identified and arrested the person(s) responsible for Ms. Hupp's death."
