A Chaffee County woman is missing after a neighbor said she went out for a bike ride Sunday and never returned, sparking a search involving more than 100 emergency personnel.

The Chaffee County Communications Center received a report on Sunday at 5:46 p.m. regarding a missing woman in the area of County Road 225 and West Highway 50.


Anybody who has information on Morphew’s whereabouts is asked to call the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office at 719-539-2596 or Chaffee County Crime Stoppers at 719-539-2599.

Sheriff planning another search in ‘near future’ 4 months after Suzanne Morphew’s disappearance

It has been four months since Suzanne Morphew left her home near Salida to go on a bike ride and never returned. She has not been found, and no arrests have been made.

But despite the lack of news in the case, the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office said investigators from multiple jurisdictions are continuing to look for the 49-year-old mother of two, and that another search is planned for the “near future.”

That’s according to a news release from the sheriff’s office distributed on Thursday afternoon. The agency said since Morphew was last seen on May 10, searches have been conducted searches by everything from dive teams to drones to cadaver dogs.

“Our sole purpose is to either find Suzanne or determine the cause of her disappearance,” the news release from Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze says.


Morphew’s brother, Andy Moorman, is hoping to recruit more than 1,000 volunteers for a five-day expedition to search the mountainous area where she was last seen, according to Dateline NBC. That is planned for Sept. 23.
 
This is interesting. There is also a podcast by the Draper Brothers that has interesting new things in it including Barry was allegedly seen at a Walmart with a woman I believe and also seen with one three times on Mother's Day... And more.

I don't know if it is media has turned to nothing but worthlessness these days for accuracy or lack of info or they took this direct from someone...? It is generally accepted it was Barry or the girls that called the neighbor.... The most accurate thing I heard recently it was Barry and then he sent the neighbor back after she confirmed two vehicles were there to check for the bike... And it is not a knock at Suzanne whatsoever but we have a woman who is just coming from a cancer fight and they say "athletic", sounds like it was said to People by Barry to again drive the narrative...

Having had cancer doesn't mean she didn't still ride her bike and stay active, especially if her cancer fight was behind her. There are plenty of stories about people trying to maintain their normal workouts while doing chemo. Chiefs Eric Berry is a prime example. There are many more like that, too

I don't disagree depending on cancer, age and condition or how many bouts with cancer. However, I am going by other things and information like her wanting to try alternative relief for nausea and more and his not allowing it, concern about her fingernails, hair and the fact I don't believe there ever was a bike ride to begin with. in my opinion, you might start with one just around your driveway or a level road, not down the road...? In the mountains?

Yes, there can be some amazing people that push through in the worst of times, no doubt. I don't disagree. I just don't think it was true in this case. And I think the news sure varies. When did these "friends" come in who called the neighbor? Just sayin'...

to me that would all depend on how much she might have done that, or similar, before chemo.

I still don't like hubby's story much though. He's an azz at the very least.

Yeah she seemed to be pretty fit and active in general and they were both gym people or so it sounds.

At minimum, he sure fails at appearing to be a grieving husband, showing a real effort to find her and do all he can to help and sure gets his "facts" mixed up...

Landscaper Morgan Gentile was accused of having an affair with Barry Morphew, an allegation she strongly denies.

"I got treated through all this just like I'm the other woman, even though I'm not the other woman. I just happen to be a woman," she said.

But she said her boss, Morphew, was acting odd around the time his wife vanished, the Daily Mail reported. "I'm scared of Barry," she said. "I don't want to see him again, ever again."

Gentile told Fox21News that Morphew was "acting really weird ... I was like, 'Barry, what's up?"

She added that he "seemed stressed" and "definitely seemed weird on Saturday."

Gentile agreed to work for an entire day, but Morphew dismissed her from the job early, around 11 a.m. "He said that he had to go make his wife happy -- do some hiking or biking. And I found out, like, later that day that he was in town all day," she said.

The following day - Mother's Day - Gentile said she got a surprise call from Barry Morphew asking her to work on a project 150 miles away.

She claimed he sounded "frantic."

She drove to the job site with another contractor, Jeff Puckett. But Barry Morphew told Gentile and Puckett there had been a family emergency and he needed to make the return trip home immediately.
 
I have been watching a lot of podcasts on this case when I have had time in the past week. And not the sensationalistic ones but ones that are in touch with Suzanne's family and are trusted. And yes, his stories to different people seem to vary greatly... Or so it seems...

Telling her brother he took and passed both a polygraph test and voice analysis is sure a big "mix-up" when LE then tells the bro he did no such thing... Too bad that's probably not on tape... It's easy to know the brother is telling the truth because it floored him and upset him and LE can confirm the conversation I'm sure... I guess it doesn't make him guilty but it sure is suspicious as are tons of other things...

This hub does not seem like the brightest bulb... IF there IS "another" woman out there waiting for him, she may want to think twice...

“From what I understood secondhand, they said there was an overwhelming smell of bleach in the home,” he said.
That information had apparently been relayed to him by initial investigators.

This case is really bothering me. I have been watching quite a bit on it here and there. On the surface, there does not appear much evidence BUT when listening to everything I feel the opposite and when thinking just of what we know with two searches of the home, the timelines not matching up and far, far more... Maybe they are waiting and hoping for more but I am starting to wonder why someone is not under arrest yet It is over four months.

There are a lot of "rumors" out there and posts that I won't go much into or if I do too much, I will go into the other thread. I have watched Plunder again lately, and I go back and forth on that one but she puts up more FB posts and such by people than some and some accounts seem pretty solid... Profiling Evil has had some new bits of info through the weeks and more... Lauren Scharf, the reporter, allegedly has more coming out it sounds like tomorrow...

Allegedly Barry is going on a hunting trip rather than searching for his wife in the huge search coming this week (said himself the way it sounds). He allegedly bought a bike a week before Suzanne went missing, not sure if for parts or other (Profiling Evil). When he wrote that note and talked to the store in Poncha Springs (the note with baby blue bike helmet on it and biking clothes), he would have been on video there outside and in but LE never requested the store video and it was written over. The store had reported it and that would be the time to ask for the video, no? What?? Why would you not?? These things are pretty solid and from solid sources. In a place that had spotty reception, Barry shut the land line to the home off, this I believe is fact from her brother...

Barry came home during a phone call back in February (I think it was) that Suzanne was on hoping to go see a friend in Florida and Suzanne did not know he was home and he was listening and yelled that she was not going anywhere, the other lady put up this account and I imagine a call between them can be verified. She met Barry briefly at a survivor of cancer event. He came for the meal, ate quickly and was out of there. She made a point of saying it was a 24 hour event, meaning he participated no further I take it. Reading her message leaves one with the thought also that Barry "snuck" in when he came home and was listening and Suzanne was surprised when he yelled and the lady said her voice choked up on the phone... She also said Suzanne was not in the best spot at that time (I imagine she was still treating?)...

I have felt this way all along but am more convinced than ever this was premeditated and not just a sudden "snap"... I truly hope for her family's sake, this search her brother has spent a lot of time organizing finds answers this week and at best, finds her. The last I knew LE won't provide them with search areas based on pings and GPS and things they know... I suppose due to the investigation...?

Rumor also has it he and youngest are living elsewhere (I won't say where as I don't think that's right for the daughter's sake--but it is on many podcasts) and left the PUMA Path home (funny how those mountain lions/pumas, etc. keep coming up)... He seems to have a mountain lion obsession and yet seems to not be that knowledgeable about them considering that...

One last thing is someone in either LE or with the FD or SAR said an item they were looking for was her journal which is missing but that is not the item on or near the road that they found. This is interesting because who would care to get rid of her journal... Not some random kidnapper, not a mountain lion... This too is a passed on remark to someone so consider it speculation but it is one I can believe for some reason... She went through cancer twice, apparently spent a fair amount of time alone in the middle of a mountain wildlife area and I can believe she journaled... It was likely even encouraged with the cancer survivor group possibly. Sadly my first thought of how someone would get rid of a journal and be sure it is gone for good would be fire... If this is true and it is known to be gone then someone knew she had one and my guess would be a good friend or a daughter realized it was missing?

There is a ton more in comments and podcasts but I have tried to stick to what seems to be likely fact that can probably be proven or disproven to a point. I have stayed away from the more unlikely things that are more questionable.

Getting tired though of not seeing any arrests and beginning to wonder as some others are... And something that really bothers me is that Indiana gave him guardianship for the sale of the home etc. Now I can see how the remaining person has to be allowed to not let everything go down the tubes in the event she is found or even for his own or children's sake but since his wife is missing, couldn't they put some lock on the proceeds or something? People say he cannot do anything in Colorado for seven years so why could he in Indiana? States differ I guess but again she is missing under questionable circumstances. Perhaps it is because they won't name him as a POI nor suspect? Still.... Missing, not dead, they should be protecting her rights and the $$ too I would think... I have no clue about the law with that though...

Long, long post, watched several podcasts and just trying to form and keep my thoughts on the information and hear others' thoughts...?

The search organized by her brother and helped volumes by Profiling Evil and more is about to begin, six days of it. Maybe I am biased but Barry Morphew saying he will absolutely help if asked irritates me! And he said her brother is doing this for publicity--I see no such side of him that way at all and I have watched him many times. Barry calls his employees, felons, then meth heads and now her brother is a publicity hound. Why should anyone need to ask the husband to help?? This man apparently won't even let his children contact their grandfather! What does he want a personal call to beg for help? It has been put out on many podcasts and I am sure he knows he can go help if he so wishes.

They have tracking systems, volunteers and so much the husband should have been working on all of this time!!! They are self funding other than raising $10,000 to support the search and only for that.

The daughter and hub sit with $35,000 that people gave to help search never used nor explained yet for any lack of searches. This is WHY I don't donate unless very sure...

I also hate to think like some others out there, I tell myself it is far fetched, but his going on a recent hunting trip prior to this search... Well let's just say shades of Tee Stauch come to mind of moving bodies OR in this case, of planting things...
