ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

I don't think this one has been posted. Another cold case, 40 years old I think it said, solved by DNA and genealogy. Baby now identified, was buried as a "Doe"

:bawling: How could ANYONE do that!!!

I don't know. I almost did not read it because I didn't think I could take it but I did. I didn't expect it to be such an old case. Pretty amazing they were still on it and cared, that was impressive. But yes, it is horrible and the details as well that the baby was alive. Very sad.

I just read the synopsis and that was enough. It's a cold case?

ARREST
One year after baby’s body found in cooler on remote Georgia roadside

15 months after a baby’s body was discovered in a cooler on the side of a Georgia road, investigators have identified the child’s mother.

Caroline Riley Propes, 19, of Newnan, was arrested Thursday on a charge of second-degree murder. DNA evidence showed she is the biological mother of the newborn baby found Jan. 6, 2019. The break in the investigation came earlier this week after authorities in Troup County got a match on the child’s DNA through genetic testing.

The child was discovered after a passerby looked inside a zippered watermelon cooler left on the side of Boy Scout Road. Witnesses reported the cooler had been sitting there for up to a week, authorities said at the time of the discovery.

“From the moment this case was opened, I and my team of investigators were determined to bring this case to a conclusion,” Sheriff James Woodruff said Friday in a statement. “I cannot thank them enough for their determination to close a case that touched many people.”

The sheriff also thanked Innovative Forensic DNA, a Virginia-based investigative genetic genealogy company, for their help in cracking the case.

A medical examiner could not determine the baby’s manner of death, according to Smith. While the sheriff’s office did not release any details Friday on how the body ended up in the cooler, Smith said they were not investigating any other suspects.

Unless there is more to this story, this is outrageous! I hope it goes further viral than it has. Seems like an awful lot of officers with nothing better to do than all congregate over a family in a park? Again, maybe there is more to it but still it does not appear they were doing one single thing wrong to be confronted in the first place? I watched the short video and read the article.

The biggest number of people flaunting the six foot rule are the cops.

Neighbor hears bloodcurdling scream and screaming that it hurts and does not call 911??? Another nice smirky mugshot with this man. Current case, not sure it deserves a thread or has one?

And then let's send gunshot victims to the hospital when hospitals are dealing with corona. 400 idiots if ya ask me. 400 people??? Was this a house or a business?

Not a Nancy Grace fan but this is the first I have heard of this case in Wisconsin. Sounds to me like both should be charged.
