ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

well I don't think killers or those that hire hitmen to killer or those in a conspiracy to commit murder should EVER be released. They did the worst of the worst. however, nowadays we see far worse released or sentenced to a light sentence and not life and I don't agree with ANY OF IT. But since that goes on, she definitely isn't the worst of the worst of who they've released or given jokes of sentences to. One can make a safe assumption she is taking responsibility because nothing else has gotten her out or her sentence changed and that's for the wrong reasons. BUT she's received degrees while in prison and helped and contributed. I'd say she is a better candidate and less risk that most they release by far or who they do not sentence adequately these days.

She looks every bit of her age.

I feel for the relative that said she never once said her hub's name and of course they would want her in for life, so would I and let me tell you, ours should be imo but it isn't the case. IF they were going to release a "murderer" she'd be a far lower risk one imo and she's availed herself of bettering her self.

what she did was abhorrent and she was using and preying on the teen/s. And used them to get rid of her hub. None of it is okay. I don't agree she should be out but then I don't AGREE that ANY WORSE one should be out and many are and in that way of looking at it, she should be released before MANY WHO HAVE BEEN are.

I think they all SHOULD BE BACK IN and have sentenced to life. When you make a conscious choice to murder, imo and it used to be, the key gets thrown away. But then idiots run the world these days.

This is obviously a ploy to get paroled. I doubt she's ever let out.

Well duh yeah lol, I don't think otherwise, I am just comparing her to the sleazebags who are far worse that they do let out. Or have let out. Who they know by every bit of logic and common sense are going to hurt or kill someone else. And who did nothing productive in prison. I guess that guy in OR went and fought wild fires or something and so was let out and then we had a serial killer...

In comparison to things like THAT, she's low risk. Personally I think anyone that murders with intent or colludes to do so, NONE should ever get out. That wasn't my point. I was talking with the idiocy that is going on, she fits the bill far more than who they HAVE been letting out and repeat offend.

SAVANNAH, Tenn. — A hearing was held in the case of the State of Tennessee v. Zachary Adams, who was convicted of killing Holly Bobo.

The hearing Friday regarded a post conviction matter, filed by Adams, concerning the trial that convicted him to a life sentence, plus 50 years for the kidnapping, rape, and murder of Holly Bobo in 2011.

Adams is seeking a new trial based on what he alleges to be new evidence.

His attorney spoke on two main claims for the newly discovered evidence.

One of those being Jason Autry changing his story and a potential new testimony of alleged witness, Lisa Caroll.

This prompted the State to file a motion to dismiss Adams’ petition that could grant him a new trial.

They began with this opening statement

“And why we believe the law does not apply or he cannot satisfy the requirements of that writ and at the end of our argument we’ll ask that you dismiss his petition of writ of error coram nobis without an evidentiary hearing,” said Jennifer Nichols, district attorney general.

They say the requirement and basis of the two petitions filed by Adams has to be new evidence discovered after the verdict and that the evidence has to be in affidavit form.

Adams’ attorney, Douglas Bates spoke on behalf of Adams as he was not present, and was not required to attend the hearing.

“I want to talk briefly about this affidavit. There are a host of cases that don’t require an evidentiary hearing is granted without an affidavit,” said Bates.

Douglas also says the states best evidence must be supported by an affidavit and refers to key witness Jason Autry’s recorded statement to a neuropsychologist saying he made up the story that ultimately convicted Adams.

The hearing concluded with no official ruling and a future court date has not been set at this time.

This really angers me! This guy kills his wife and then gets a girlfriend and kills her, too!

The remains were found buried in the basement of the former Johnstown home of 48-year-old Brian Giles a day after he was convicted in the death of Nancy Giles, who went missing in October 2018. Nancy Giles’ remains were found in May 2019 in a shallow grave near a trail on the Inclined Plane hillside in downtown Johnstown.

Todaro, Giles’ girlfriend after the disappearance of his wife, also lived at the home and disappeared in December 2020. District Attorney Greg Neugebauer told reporters that he expects charges to be filed in the near future in her death.

So haven't seen Scott in awhile, I think he is on, he just does't come up for me as a show suggestion any longer and so I forget. Always does a short one as o a weekly or nightly touching on recent news in more than one case, then dump parents of the month or year (and these two were bad), dumb criminal of the week, ec.

Anywhoooo. At a little past 21 minutes in he is talking Sara Boone the one accused of zipping her bf into a suitcase and he ends up dead. No time to look but don't think we have that one on here as I hit most of have over the years of new cases of most types. I've certainly heard of fhe case as most of us probably have and perhaps it was here at some point in this more general thread where the case never ends up with a thread so I am parking this here.

Anyhow she is looking for attorney number nine. Got given an 8th but shows up in court and number 8 isn't right either and wants another. Isn't this more than anyone that can be thought of and that even Jodi Arias went through? Where does the line get drawn and a big resounding NO is the response to a defendant? I mean who is it who can't work with who here?

CAlled the last one a dud and buffoon. Said in this hearing asking for number 9 everyone blames her for it being her fault she can't get along with the attorneys and says she is NOT the reason. Note she is only facing second degree murder although hmmm, just hide and seek gone wrong of course not her fault either...

She handed judge an envelope containing a 50 some page letter and said recent atty is mistreating her and wants all to know what she is going through...

She walked out of last two meetings with this attorney the attorney said because she didn't like results of discovery, etc. Scott jokes oh my goodness you mean attorneys are telling their clients what they need to know instead of what they want to hear and the client doesn't like it and so they just keep going, get a new one.

Set for trial October 7th. Said she told her last one from moment she first met her had a snotty attitude or some such and that's the one now up wanting a 9th. Scott says judge can and should say it isn't an attorney problem, it is a "you" problem after 8 attorneys and you are going to trial, want to go yourself or with this attorney. Set for hearing though on whether to grant her a 9th. Where she will do the same thing. Put an end to it judge already. The record is clear one out of eight should have been adequate and she's doing this.

Haven't watched Scott in awhile, I forget like Linda hat he can pack so much in a half an hour. Difference is hers will be on one case and he packs a ton in on several into a half an hour.

So my eldest sister and my mom are up visiting, much looked forward to as I get NO time to see anyone. They came yesterday and will head back today. The daughter that lives in this area and I have joined them shopped, ate out etc. However when the all came together including daughter, and I AM the CRIME JUNKIE not any of them, were talking of how some woman has finally been found or so it seems, I get little or no time to connect and I hate it. Daughter even knew about it. Well in our state, in the upper part where we are from, originally, but not our specific area but close enough, a woman went missing in May, to this day not very typical. She walked out of her home, not sure much else was known until now. I haven't had time to look at it and not a lot of info released but the basics are horrible.

She from what I understand left her home walked out. All this time or someone along these weeks since May, not sure, they know, I don't, it was found she had climbed into a dumpster, my first thought of course from following crime was someone threw her in one dead. But I gather she climbed into one. BUT then when yesterday we had a moment or two in between things it wasn't clear from what has been released if they know this from video or some person, my family had thought from security footaeg but the most recent update my daughter read me wasn't clear on that at all. Well that dumpster was PICKED up for garbage.... And apparently they've found evidence of her in the incinerator.... What most people and my family seem to think from what has been shared is there is video of her climbing into the dumpster so whether she slept in there through a a pick up and never awoke or when a garbage truck came to dump it... No idea. And ended up in the incinerator if not dead before that from the garbage truck....

Again, I did not get a lot of time in seeing them to get the gist of this story but my daugther, who knew about it, I did not, had a few moments and when I asked her how they knew she went into the dumpster on her own, thought it was found on video as over weeks the canvassed over where she had set off walking, etc. but when she read me the most recent update on it, it did not say they knew she went into the dumpster based on video, so imo crime mind could be a supposed eyewitness, could be video but ALL seemed to think video my family so it may well be. In that case, she slept through or something of being picked up and once picked up and going into the truck itself probably had no hope of getting out if she awoke... Lots of speculation of course and being they have not provided a lot of information, like even where home was to where dumpster was, lots of unknowns. Meaning she could live in an apartment and the dumpster was at her own complex OR she could have walked a distance to some business that had a dumpster, etc.

Again I have not had time to look it up myself, I don't see doing a thread but awful and next county over and m noncrime following family were aware of it, all of them, and I was not.

No, no, all drownings are ruled accidents almost without pause. Why would it be different for someone important or famous....? I'm not being sarcastic, I am SERIOUS. This was ruled an accident right...
It was the ketamine in his system they are investigating. He drowned because of it.

Per the article:

A medical examiner ruled his cause of death from “the acute effects of ketamine.”

How is that different than drinks given to a kid in Nashville or things that result in THC positive results and how is it different than your KC fans deaths?

In this ONE they went looking for it and to change the accidental, etc. Why? Because of who he was?

He drowned in a hot tub for goodness sakes. Or for that matter the weird death of the doctor in your area ruled a suicide, the bit coin guy.

SOME they go further for and SOME the families are to just accept it.

Surely you an agree with that? I mean this was someone FAMOUS.

:hugs:Love ya but I am going to say what I see and am asking do you disagree with who it is that may matter in finding further findings?

Like Michael Jackson, Anna Nicole Smith, can't we name so many that the interest went so much further... Whitney Houston... On the other hand they shut them down too to protect who sold or gave the drugs... Don't they? So this one is different AFTER being ruled accidental? Doesn't everyone want those answers for a loved one and to know where they got it, etc.?

Be honest and upfront on this one, not debating, you don't see a difference? Hey he was messed up and he drowned in a hot tub NO LESS, not a river, and just accept it people, case closed...

This sounds very much like a missing person case we had here in the UK. Corrie Mckeague. He was in the RAF and went missing after a drunken night out. His body has never been found and it was eventually presumed he climbed into a rubbish skip (dumpster) to sleep. They ended up searching a rubbish tip but never found him.

There was CCTV of him walking thru the town late at night going into a dead end where the rubbish skips were and never coming out. Before that he had slept in a shop doorway for some of the time. All on CCTV yet he was never found. His phone followed the route and timing of the rubbish lorry.

And yet a lot of CCTV leading up to. Your area has had more of that then we do I dare say for years. I've seen that in other UK cases and in Australia and some other places as well. I'd dare say the area this is in Wisconsin they are lucky to have any. My family are not crime followers in the way I am and yet they were all talking of this and I knew nothing of it and so I don't know if the bit of time I got to ask them about it in our busy visit here if they have it all straight BUT apparently video sees her going into the dumpster alone. I don't even know if this dumpster wasn't in her own apartment complex, or she lived in a house and walked to a business with a dumpster or what. My daughter probably knew the most. They've actually let very little out as to how she was seen even en route whether that is video or some eyewitness, etc.

She apparently had a home and didn't need a place to sleep but of course then my thoughts go to was she told to get out, did she have a hub or bf and he kicked her out, drugs or something seem likely just because why would you get into a dumpster and end up picked up by the garbage truck... it is summer here and while that doesn't mean one can't have a cool evening, why a DUMPSTER? I guess she actually disappeared in May though... But still a DUMPSTER?

The thing is they will likely never know, she apparently ended up eventually in the incinerator... Knowing more about her home and circumstances I'd say would help. Did she not have a car she could have slept in, was she kicked out, was she not kicked out and simply was on major drugs, all these factors aren't known as far as I could tell. Daughter looked up most current news on it while with me and nothing on that. I don't doubt locals may know more but sister doesn't live in the area and my mom isn't the type to follow such or be aware of it until someone tells her of it and it isn't her county, but the next one or two over. AND it hasn't made big news as far as nationally, so many don't. For every case we follow, there are at least 100 like it that never get the notice... Little hs been said about it really as to other facts...

The case you are talking about too, why would you EVER climb into a dumpster to sleep. I just can't imagine that being a choice, I don't care if cold, drunk, drugged. I'd like to know more in this case here where she lived and the area as we are talking small towns, rural Midwest, etc. and the biggest "city" is 8000 people and most others around are truly small town, 1000 or less. You could sleep in a doorway, get in a car, guarantee you to this day there many don't lock them, a park..

I can only guess this was drugs. I don't know but just like your case, I can't imagine ever unless desperation wanting to climb into a dirty and unknown for garbage in it dumpster. I'd break into a car first. I'd never do either but think all know what I mean...

Of course the gruesome thoughts have her dead and compacted in the garbage truck first before ending up in the county incinerator. What is missing is what led up to it all that evening. Nothing about that.
