ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

What the H? Mama didn't get her Whopper on time? What is WRONG with people? Well hello prison... Odd article. I didn't even see the age of the new employee dead just working for a few days. I am beginning to be sure I live in an alternate universe with things like this and I am starting to thank God for it. Who DOES this kind of thing?

Man I must not keep up on Hollywood/LA and more and he must not be one of my kind of Youtube things or sensations. I have no clue who this is but apparently he has a mansion, huge parties during Covid at his mansion, was protesting at the Floyd case, has firearms the national agency seems to have a serious interest in them... Never heard of him. Busy guy...

Sad story. It rings a bell but not sure if I know the case or not. So many have it turned back against them, it could ring bells of some other case with me.

My heart breaks for this survivor. @Guess Who do you remember this story too?

I know her mom. She was a vet at the spay/neuter clinic we help out. Such a sad time. She tried so hard to get her daughter over this, but I guess the scars were just too deep.

GOOD. I posted the first mention I think yesterday and did not think it was the entire story. I still don't actually. For all I can complain about my own areas, I do thank God things like this are unheard of, we don't have bodies being found all over or shootings every day. Like I said yesterday, what she didn't get her Whopper on time, now we find she had a kid with... The employee on 2nd day... New anyhow... He disrespected her but gave her $40 for a $33 meal... and she is still upset AND has a 13 year old in the car? Just curious where she works or has and how her service skills are....

Maybe not fair as I do not know but there is a young man dead. I still think there may be more to it but it evolved already today....

Well innocent until proven guilty I guess but in reading it, it is not like there is just one accuser and no one to corroborate anything and there is some history here. In which case I label him a POS.

Note that these victims did not wait 15+ years to press charges unlike the Masterson case. Just my thoughts. ;)

I noticed that. As I think I said, I don't have an opinion on the Masterson case, I don't know enough about the case and history itself. I do have opinions of the general issues in any such case and feel if a case is brought, it is the court that allows it or dismisses it. Or it is a DA that decides there is enough to bring it or feels that way. And that is where some issues lie. But yah, this one is more current as to dates. No case is the same, that's for sure :).
