ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

I'm leaning to misadventure due to time of day and weather conditions when he made the summit. It sounds like he would have had to take that boat to get from where he was to where he parked. He possibly had a ride to the place to take the boat over so his truck wouldn't be parked there, empty for a week.
Orrrrr, somebody did take his truck after noticing it there for multiple days.

This is the third or fourth recently that they have refused to look further into even after the prosecutor has said the person was not guilty.
This time, this guy is most likely to be executed by daybreak today.

. No one wants him to die — not the jurors who decided his fate years back, not the prosecutor’s office, not even the victim’s family. The only entity pushing for his execution, it seems, is the state of Missouri

Georgia police on Friday detained a person of interest in the slaying of 22-year-old Laken Riley, a nursing student who was found dead in a wooded area on the University of Georgia's main campus in Athens.

Laken Riley case: Evidence revealed as trial approaches

A thumbprint on Laken Riley’s cellphone. DNA from her fingernails. Video footage of someone dumping a bloody jacket and gloves within half a mile of where her body was found. This is some of the evidence prosecutors say they have against Jose Ibarra.

As the state and Ibarra’s lawyers spar over what evidence can be admitted at trial, details of the case are being publicly revealed for the first time.

Ibarra, 26, was seen with scratches and other injuries the day after Riley’s body was discovered. They say he looks like the man seen on video footage throwing bloody gloves and a bloody jacket with long dark hair on it into a dumpster within half a mile of Riley’s body less than 30 minutes after she was killed.

Ibarra is charged with felony murder, malice murder, kidnapping with bodily injury, aggravated assault with intent to rape, aggravated battery, hindering a 911 call, and tampering with evidence. He has pleaded not guilty to those charges. Jury selection in his trial is expected to start in the Athens-Clarke County Superior Court on Nov. 13.

The DNA was not even tested until AFTER he was convicted.

I believe in the death penalty. However, I strongly believe it must be proven it was in fact that person. Or in the case of "Scott Peterson". It is absolutely ludicrous to think a random killer just crossed her path. He was the only one with MMO. I hate they use "It was racist" All the time. But, I think it definitely is a very weak case. Based on heresay. When there are alot of cases where it's proven the defendant is the killer. And not given the death penalty. I don't believe he should be put to death. With the new evidence surfacing too. No.

When the prosecution AND the victims family asks to stop it AND the evidence that most likely excludes him was processed after he was convicted, so new evidence, it should be listened to. A stay at the very least.

FARNHAMVILLE, Iowa —

21 man, 21, charged with hiding body of 17-year-old girl found dead

Iowa authorities have identified the missing teenager found dead Monday in Calhoun County.

Michele "Luna" Jackson, 17, was first reported missing Sunday evening
Nathaniel Bevers-McGivney is charged with abuse of a corpse – failure to disclose known location in connection to the homicide of a 17-year-old girl in Farnhamville, population 400. . He is being held in the Carroll County Jail.

The criminal complaint says shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday, a woman contacted the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office to report her daughter missing. She and her other daughter were out walking and looking for the missing daughter when they came upon Bevers-McGivney, who was “covered in apparent blood” and was in possession of the missing daughter’s scooter and other personal effects.

According to the criminal complaint, when questioned by law enforcement about the blood on his clothes, Bevers-McGivney requested to speak to a lawyer. He was detained and transported to the Carroll County Jail while the investigation continued.

The missing girl’s body was found shortly after 9 a.m. Monday. The criminal complaint alleges that the location where the girl’s body was discovered “suggests that Bevers-McGivney intentionally hid” the body to conceal a crime. Authorities used crime scene tape to block off Farnhamville City Park, where more than a dozen evidence markers noted possible clues for investigators. KCCI saw apparent blood stains on the ground at the park as officials were investigating the area
