Law Enforcement Seeking Woman and 3-Year-Old Who Went Missing After Serious Highway 101 Wreck Near Confusion Hill

On 11/30/2020, at approximately 1150 hours, a 2011 Toyota Sienna traveling northbound on US-101, south of Confusion Hill, collided with a tree along the east road edge, for reasons still under investigation. Officers from the Garberville CHP area were called at 1200 hours, responded to the scene and arrived at approximately 1218 hours. One of the occupants identified as Steven Gutierrez, sustained major injuries and was transported from the scene for medical care. Two other occupants, a white female adult identified as Trinity Leigh Bray, and a male juvenile identified as Anthony Florentine-Perez, voluntarily walked away from the scene prior to CHP arrival. Bray and Florentine-Perez were reported walking northbound along US-101 and did not appear to be injured as a result of the collision. Officers searched the surrounding area and businesses and were unable to locate Bray or Florentine-Perez upon arrival.

CHP Garberville was notified by friends and family of Bray’s, she had not made contact nor been seen since the accident. Officers were dispatched to all known current and prior addresses of Bray’s to confirm her and the child’s welfare. A welfare, “Be On the Look Out” was broadcast to adjacent and neighboring law enforcement agencies. CHP Air Operations, officers from the Garberville CHP, and Leggett Valley Fire Department conducted a coordinated air and foot search of the area surrounding the collision scene and were unsuccessful in locating either party. The investigating officer attempted contact with Bray at all known prior contacts and a cellular phone locating ping was initiated to attempt to locate Bray. All attempts were also unsuccessful.

MOTHER AND CHILD STILL MISSING AFTER CRASH NORTH OF LEGGETT; FAMILY ASKS FOR HELP

A mother and child are still missing after a crash north of Leggett 24 hours ago. The woman, Trinity Bray, was driving a vehicle that struck a tree south of Confusion Hill at mile marker 98.3. The adult male passenger received major injuries.

The 34-year-old McKinleyville woman and her 3-year-old child, Anthony, left to get help. They were seen walking northbound on Hwy 101, but they haven’t been seen since.

According to Trinity’s adopted mom, Julie, “Anytime she has ever gotten into an issue she calls me. I tried to call her, but [the phone] keeps going right to voice mail. All I can think that she’s unconscious in the woods.”

Julie believes Trinity would have tried to come home if she could because “she was supposed to be signing a rental agreement yesterday; she was going to be getting her own place.”

Yesterday, Julie, began searching alongside Hwy 101 on foot. She went out looking again today. “If I’m yelling for her and she can actually hear me, she’ll probably come out,” Julie told us.

If anyone has time to help, Julie said, “We need some assistance. It is just me and two of my girlfriends.

These cases where there's been an accident and the people go missing afterward are very scary!

I'm surprised they were walking along the 101 to get help because there's usually a lot of traffic on that highway. I have a friend who owns a house along a more "rural" stretch of that highway near Smith River, and it still has traffic! On top of it all, that's not far from where the 1 and the 101 meet.

Interesting that Law Enforcement doesn't appear to be searching any longer? They did at first, maybe 24 hours? Her "adopted mom" said she and two friends were the only ones out there looking. Certainly they would have had witnesses that saw them walking along the road?

Two distinct possibilities keep fighting for the top spot in my head. Either they became disoriented and lost, or they were never in the car. (Third option is that they were in the car and decided to use this as an opportunity to get away for whatever reason.)

Oh yeah! Maybe the accident happened because they were trying to get away! I didn't think of that before.

What a strange case. A few things pop into my head. I also had the thought maybe they were never in the car but they wouldn't be missing then so that's a puzzle... It could be she was under the influence and did not want to be arrested as the driver, this was late at night... My final thought is a bit more out there... It wouldn't be the first time someone crashed into a tree as part of a plan... Did anyone see the actual accident? It is also possible it is a story if the man was driving under the influence to place another driver in the car with someone claiming they saw her but that too seems unlikely...

I too would like to know who saw them and what proof there is they were ever in the vehicle. It's all pretty vague... Why do you walk away if there are people there and help is on the way and someone you are with is injured...? He clearly took the brunt of the impact judging by injuries...

So she has not even checked to see if the man is okay or so it sounds... That is downright strange... Who was he to her? She was getting her own place the next day it was said...

I still want to know who saw them on the highway. I'm stuck at that spot.

No kidding. I wonder if someone "spirited" them out of there actually. Walking with a three year old? Very far? I mean did she call someone? There was a gap between the crash and the response...

I don't know the area, it sounds like you do as to lighting or businesses?

The most common reason someone leaves a traffic accident is fear of arrest as we know... If they were even there to begin with... They are missing allegedly and if the tree hit the passenger side and it was clear he was the passenger, then I guess someone else was driving and they do place her as the driver... They must have the info from somewhere... He is seriously injured but he also may have asked about her and the child if he is conscious and told them they were in the car...

I found this article, looks like some groups have been looking even today. If you scroll down to the comments below and ignore the bickering there's a couple of interesting ideas.

I cant believe they haven't seen any sign of them and her phone is going straight to voicemail. Odd thought went through my mind.....I wonder if she was in a relationship with the passenger and he was abusive and she took the accident as an opportunity to take off. I'm grasping at straws here, this one is baffling.

That has crossed my mind too, as well as her crashing intentionally to get away from him, which I admit may be a bit of a stretch...

Wondering if she had a history with law enforcement or a warrant and just didn't want to be picked up?
Or if she intentionally hit the tree and fled?
It's kind of seeming like something is up leaning towards that kind of thing... I also wonder if she intentionally hit the tree... At minimum I think she fled to avoid arrest... Speculation of course... She was riding with this man but never has checked on him and his injuries...? Strange.

Of course, it is possible something bad or unexpected happened to her and the child and I pray that is not so but calling it a "hit and run" seems to hint at something...

Almost every time someone disappears after a car accident, they are found nearby. In the woods, a river, etc. Usually ended up disoriented and fell victim to the elements.
This just seems different, especially with the child. And another passenger. But, if mom was disoriented and walked into the woods, he would have followed. I just really don't know what to think.

I tend to think that she called someone or got out of there to a business and called someone... Was picked up and fled... Speculation of course. It also means they are alive and safe which I prefer to think....

Twice in my life, I saw someone flee a scene rapidly... I am still amazed at how quickly. In the one case, the individual after a pretty big and serious accident was out of that driver's seat so fast (giving not a care about the passenger which seems the case here), calling a friend as he ran and heading for the road nearby to disappear and be picked up before LE got there... The person did not have a warrant or anything but would be charged for this accident...

Of course I don't know and want to stress it is jmo.

They're still saying that they don't know what caused the car accident.

Thank goodness...
