Oh FFS! Another one. Just yesterday I watched a case where the killer went to a mental hospital for a gruesome rape and murder and was out in 4 years. It's much easier to get released than paroled. Play crazy. I've heard that term. And from people who have done it for different reasons for their benefit. Certainly no one I want anything to do with.

Group holds toy giveaway in Buckroe Beach

On Friday, volunteers put smiles on the faces of kids in one Hampton neighborhood that suffered a devastating tragedy earlier this year.

"United We Stand of Hampton Roads" gave out toys to children in the Buckroe Beach area, where Codi Bigsby is from.

The 4-year-old was reported missing back in January. The community has spent months searching for Codi and keeping his name alive.

That's why the group's founder said he wanted to make sure they got a dose of holiday cheer.

"I just felt like I wanted to give back to this community... to the kids in this neighborhood, specifically, because we're out here," said Klalil Cribb. "Not just my organization, but others are still hoping that we can find Codi."

United We Stand also provided hats and gloves to children. The group also held a toy giveaway in Norfolk on Friday afternoon.

As new year approaches, many holding on to hope for answers in search for Codi Bigsby

This Saturday will mark 11 months since Hampton toddler Codi Bigsby was reported missing.

11 months of searches. 11 months of people coming to a fence near Codi’s home, leaving notes, stuffed animals, and even a Christmas tree, all hoping Codi comes home.

Cory Bigsby was set to go to trial in November, but that was postponed.

As of Wednesday, no new trial date has been set.

Cory Bigsby is expected to be back in court for a hearing on Jan. 27.

Community search for Codi Bigsby

The search for Codi Bigsby continues. Community members says they will not give up until the missing child is home.

Volunteers who have never met Codi say they won’t give up and say they haven’t stopped searching for him.

Bianca Wilson with Building Back Black, planned a search at the 1700 block of Old Buckroe Road.

Many volunteers affectionally call it ‘Camp Codi’ or ‘Codi’s Place.’

“I believe that he is still here, and I am not giving up,” Wilson said. “We are not giving up. He is a beam of light.”

Wilson tells 10 On Your Side the search for Codi reveals areas for improvement within law enforcement and community response.

In this new year, Wilson plans to have biweekly searches to keep his name alive.

“Having a fresh mind, a new set of eyes and doing thing a little things differently can bring out answers,” Wilson said.

She plans another search for Codi on Jan. 14 at 1 p.m.

“My hope is just to find answers, that is my true hope,” Wilson said.

On the last day of the month, 6 Women NA Notebook plan a candlelight vigil for Codi at 6 p.m. near the Codi fence.

“We are leading with love,” Wilson said. “I want to make sure that people understand it’s all love in the community.”

Cory Bigsby is scheduled for a status hearing Jan. 27 in Hampton Circuit Court.

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A judge has ordered a second competency exam for the father of missing Hampton toddler Codi Bigsby.

During his court appearance Friday, a judge issued the new competency exam for Cory Bigsby after the defense team found issues with the findings of the first competency evaluation which found Bigsby fit to stand trial.

<snip>
Cory faces 30 charges, including felony child neglect and abuse. None of the charges are related to the actual disappearance of his son. They stem from instances where police say Bigsby left his children home alone and for failure to secure medical attention for an injured child.

HAMPTON, Va. — It’s been a little more than a year since 4-year-old Codi Bigsby was reported missing from Hampton.

But advocates in Hampton Roads and across the nation continue to search for the young boy, that includes “We Are Codi’s Voice” organizer Nancy Strickland.

Strickland said she’s followed Codi’s story since he first disappeared. She said his story struck close to home, as she has two young grandkids herself.

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — On Friday, March 31, a Hampton judge ruled to send the father of missing Hampton toddler Codi Bigsby to Eastern State Hospital in Williamsburg for further mental health evaluation, delaying his trial once again.

4-year-old Codi has been missing for over a year. His father, Cory Bigsby, reported him missing and police say Cory is the only person of interest in the case.

Cory is going to Eastern State Hospital for a “restoration process” to help restore his mental capacity so he can get to a point where he is capable in participating in his trial.

<snip>
Bigsby’s attorneys are working to get the charges against his dropped. His legal team filed a motion Thursday afternoon to dismiss the case. They claim the commonwealth uncovered new evidence last August they didn’t share with his defense team for months. His defense team says that evidence is a letter written by Bigsby in jail, which shows his mental health is deteriorating.

Although the contents of the letter have not been released to the public, WAVY News is told it was not a suicide note or any kind of confession.

Boy he and this case and the games are starting to remind me of Lori Vallow... They all know enough to LIE though about facts and cover their own arses DON'T THEY?

Attorney walks back statement about Cory Bigsby’s jail letter

An attorney representing the father of missing Hampton boy Codi Bigsby has walked back her statement regarding the letter her client, Cory Bigsby, wrote from jail.

Amina Matheny-Willard filed a motion on Thursday to dismiss the case against Bigsby, who is in custody on several child neglect charges. He is also the prime suspect in the January 2022 disappearance of his 4-year-old son, Codi. Hampton police said Codi is presumed to be dead.

Matheny-Willard’s motion to dismiss is based on the discovery of a letter Bigsby wrote in jail. Matheny-Willard would not divulge the contents of the letter, but said it “changes the course” of Bigsby’s trial and shows his deteriorating mental health.

On Friday, 10 On Your Side investigative reporter Julie Millet asked Matheny-Willard directly if the letter was a suicide note or confession, and the attorney said no. On Saturday morning, Matheny-Willard sent a text to several reporters, including Millet, changing her initial statement. She said, “Because the statement is verifiably untrue, nonsensical, and bizarre, I do not consider it to be either one.”

Hampton Commonwealth’s Attorney Anton Bell declined to comment on the letter.

10 On Your Side asked Matheny-Willard for a copy of the letter, but she declined to provide it and said she plans to ask a judge to seal it.

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – Cory Bigsby seems to understand the legal process ahead of him, but not the seriousness of the charges he’s facing.

That’s the opinion of Dr. Weare Zwermer, a psychologist who evaluated the 44-year-old father in February and March and determined he’s not competent to stand trial.

Bigsby is accused of abusing and neglecting his four young sons, including Codi Bigsby. The 4-year-old has been missing for more than a year, and authorities presume he’s dead. His father is the only person of interest in his disappearance.

That's really hard to believe. I think understanding the legal process is arguably a lot more difficult than understanding the length and severity of a sentence you are facing for the charges you face. Makes little sense to me.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — On any given day, there are more than 900 people missing in Virginia. That number, according to Virginia State Police, reflects current missing children and adult cases, including cases that span decades.

Investigators track as many cases as possible, while a Hampton Roads-based volunteer group also covers ground.

13News Now has introduced the community to Water Team Inc. before. The group has spent more than a year searching for missing Hampton four-year-old Codi Bigsby. But the group is constantly training to bring families across the region answers.

Founder Joe Slabinski showed 13News Now how his team stays sharp through search and rescue drills.

A team of 12 volunteers dedicates their days to finding missing people in Hampton Roads. Grants and donations fund operations.

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – Two advocates refuse to give up hope in the search for Codi Bigsby.

The 4-year-old Hampton child has been missing since January 31, 2022.

Nearly 16 months later police, search crews, and family members have looked for Codi in the area of his home at the Buckroe Pointe Apartment Townhomes.

But the two advocates insist the net needs to be cast farther than that.

The main reason is that the groups know the Bigsby family has ties in the Maryland area near Washington D.C. They want to put up flyers like this one to let family members know Codi is not forgotten.

“We are going because we are letting the residents of Maryland know this child is still missing,” said Nancy Strickland with “We are Codi’s Voice.”

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – 10 On Your Side has learned that Cory Bigsby was indicted on charges connected to the death of his 4-year-old son, Codi.

Sources tell 10 On Your Side that Bigsby was indicted by a grand jury on Monday. The paperwork associated with the indictment has not been filed yet in Hampton Circuit Court, according to clerks in that office.

A recently released mental health evaluation obtained exclusively by 10 On Your Side’s investigative team also reveals that Bigsby is competent to stand trial.

He’s also facing 30 charges connected to the alleged abuse and neglect of Codi and his brothers.

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A new grand jury indictment alleges Cory Bigsby not only killed his son Codi Bigsby but did so months before he was reported missing from Hampton on Jan. 31, 2022.

The alleged murder happened on or around June 18, 2021, newly filed court paperwork shows.

<snip>

“From the first minutes of the investigation, myself, the assistant chiefs, members of command staff, were at Codi Bigsby’s residence to see for ourselves what the evidence demonstrated. We have followed the evidence from day one. It was very clear to us, the evidence about what likely occurred has been very clear. There is little about this that has been mysterious,” said former Hampton Police Chief Mark Talbot during a Feb. 10, 2022 press conference.

New court paperwork also shows Bigsby’s charged with concealment of a dead body. He’s next due court in on Wednesday.

HAMPTON, Va.— Saturday a candlelight vigil was held for missing Hampton toddler, Codi Bigsby.

<snip>

Candles read "We love you Codi" and flowers were put out, all to honor the short-lived life of Codi Bigsby, who was four years old when he was reported missing.

Community members say the pain runs deep for this child that they never met.

"I do call Codi 757's child because I believe he is," said Nancy Strickland, Organizer of We are Codi's Voice.

People like this have children. They aren't too lazy to make them. But too stupid and lazy to use birth control. Have a child to abuse to neglect and abuse. Unreal.
