Fayetteville police looking for teen who vanished years earlier

Fayetteville police are asking for the public’s help to find 17-year-old Blake Deven, who disappeared several years ago.

While conducting interviews in a separate police investigation, several members of Deven’s family said they had not seen him in several years.

Police said due to the unusual circumstances of his disappearance, the Fayetteville Police Department’s Homicide Unit, which also investigates missing and endangered persons, is leading the investigation.

Fayetteville police requested the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children create an age-progressed photo to better depict what Deven might look like today.

On Wednesday, the police department and the FBI searched three locations in Fayetteville as part of the investigation to find Deven.

Neighbors concerned about Fayetteville teen who vanished; left with questions after nearby police search

Investigators remain puzzled Friday about the disappearance of a now 17-year-old boy, that was recently reported missing after his family said they haven’t seen him in years.

On Thursday, Fayetteville police shared an age-progressed photo of Blake Deven, whose disappearance they learned about after speaking with family members involving a separate investigation.

Deven had been missing since August of 2022, according to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Officers say they worked with the FBI and searched at least three different locations this week in an effort to get more answers about the disappearance of Deven.

CBS 17 learned of a large search on Wednesday near Berriedale Drive.

Neighbors said they saw a large police presence outside their homes as officers searched.

Well clearly there's something very wrong with the parents or WHOEVER he was to have been living with these last years who never reported him missing?!

A separate investigation, as to what I wonder... Another child? A domestic?

I keep forgetting I said I'm not looking at new cases unless I already have heard of them. But I saw just the 2022, thought it old and wondered if I had followed it back when. Now I see it is reported this year only.

Blake Deven missing: NC police, FBI searching for teen who may have vanished years ago

Police are asking for the public's help in finding a North Carolina boy who disappeared years ago.

Our sister station WTVD asked police when Deven was reported missing, but the department was unable to share any further information.

"Due to the unusual circumstances of his reported disappearance, the Fayetteville Police Department's Homicide Unit, which also investigates missing and endangered persons, is leading the investigation," FPD said in a news release.

However, his aunt, Miranda Miller, only learned of his disappearance days ago.

“When I first found out about it, I was in shock [and] I was scared,” she said. “It baffles me why this kid has been missing for at least two years.”

Miller lives in the Asheville area and said she hadn’t seen Deven, her brother’s son, since being placed in foster care over 10 years ago.

More information! Does this mean he was in a foster home? Or was he back with his parents in 2022? We don't really know, but this does tell us that Deven's life wasn't easy. :(

Relative of Fayetteville Blake Deven last seen in 2022 discovered missing since 2019

In a startling revelation, Fayetteville Police said Thursday that as the search for a missing teenager unfolds, one of his relatives may also be missing.

The stunning update came amid the investigation into the disappearance of Blake Julian Trenton Deven, now 17, who was last seen in 2022. FPD said Thursday that London Deven, now 27, was last seen in 2019 in Fayetteville.

Police said they were able to "independently confirm" that London hasn't been seen since, and that the most recent photo of her was from around 2007 when she would have been about 12 years old.

New details released in disappearance cases of Blake Deven and London Deven in Fayetteville

The Fayetteville Police Department (FPD) released new information during a press conference Friday about the ongoing search for a missing teenager and one of his relatives who may also be missing.

The news comes one day after police announced they are searching for London Deven, now 27, who was last seen in 2019 in Fayetteville, amid a search for Blake Julian Trenton Deven, now 17, who was last seen in 2022, FPD said.

FPD Chief Kemberle Braden said Detectives in the FBI's evidence response team searched a home in Fayetteville where the Deven family used to live after moving to the area in 2015.

He said Blake was last seen at a Walmart on Ramsey Street, and detectives are trying to piece together a timeline for both Blake and London's disappearances.

"We're taking information that we are seeing from all different sources, and we are trying to put a factual timeline together," Braden said. "That's why we're asking for the public's help. Anybody that may have information over the past several years."

Police said they were able to "independently confirm" that London hasn't been seen since, and that the most recent photo of her was from around 2007 when she would have been about 12 years old.

ABC11 obtained court documents showing that Blake and London were adopted by a woman named Avantae Emerald Deven in 2013 and 2011 respectively.

Police return to Fayetteville home linked to missing teen and female relative

Police in Fayetteville Friday night returned to a home they had previously searched in the case of a missing boy — whose disappearance is now linked to a female relative who has also vanished.

Friday night, police were positioned near crime scene tape and large, bright lights were installed overlooking a home along Berriedale Drive. Earlier in the day Friday, the FBI said their agents were involved in a search at a former home of either Blake Deven or London Deven, who are both missing.

Blake Deven would be 17 now but several members of his family told officials they had not seen him “in several years,” according to the FBI. While police and the FBI were investigating his disappearance this week, they discovered Blake’s family member, London Deven, now age 27, was also missing.

The most recent photo available to investigators of London was taken around 2007, when she was likely 12 years old, the FBI said. Police said the Deven family last saw Blake in 2022 and London in 2019 and — as in the case with Blake — she was never reported missing.

Since March 27, investigators have searched at least three Fayetteville properties associated with the Deven Family.

One of them was a home the family used to live in. Fayetteville Police Chief Kem Braden made it clear the family who currently lives in the home doesn’t have anything to do with the case. He said the Deven family originally moved to Fayetteville in 2015.

“I know that everyone in our community has more questions than answers right now. Please understand the Fayetteville Police Department and the FBI remain committed to finding out what happened to these two young people,” Braden said in a news conference Friday.

Felicia Chandler, Blake's biological mother, said it was painful enough to put her son into foster care. Chandler said Blake was placed into foster care because of abuse allegations, which she denies.

Chandler said she only discovered her son was missing in February, when the Fayetteville Police Department notified her.

"I cannot stress enough that the main goal here is getting this little boy's picture out here, getting him found and getting him safe," she said.

Chandler keeps a spread of his childhood photos by her side.

"We love you, son," Chandler said. "We love you so much."

Police said Blake's family members told them he was last seen at least two years ago.

"How can a child be missing for two years – or even a second?" Chandler said.

Chandler wants to know what happened to these children.

"Somebody, please help me. Please help me," Chandler said.

Fayetteville police have not confirmed how long Blake has been missing. The Missing Children Database said Blake has been missing since 2022.

Blake's aunt, Miranda Miller, said other family members haven't seen Blake in five years. She said Blake's adoptive mother never enrolled him in school.

"As far as we know, from the time that she got them, she homeschooled them," she said.

Miller said she doesn't understand why it took so long to report Blake missing.

"It just baffles me why this kid has been missing for at least two years," she said.

She said she never stopped loving Blake and never stopped thinking about him.

"There's a family that's really hurting right now, that's full of questions and concerns, and we just want to know he's okay," Miller said. "He can always call me. I'll always be here waiting for him to come back home."

Police have not said how Blake and London are related.

The Madison County Department of Social Services released a statement:

"The Madison County Department of Social Services had placed in its custody in February 2011, a child, Blake Julian Trenton Deven, who is subject of an investigation by the Fayetteville Police Department. In May 2011, Blake Deven was placed in a foster home located in Buncombe County through a licensed private child placing agency. He remained in the foster home and was adopted in July 2013. It is my understanding that the family moved to Cumberland County in 2015."

The Cumberland County Department of Social Services also sent a statement to WRAL News:

"Cumberland County had no history or involvement with these children or family prior to the current report. We are working in conjunction with law enforcement as it relates to this matter. We are equally concerned about the safety and well-being of these children and will continue to aid law enforcement in their efforts."

Tossed about and then poof! They’re gone. There’s way too many of these kids getting lost in the foster care system. Way too many. One is too many! And there’s been many more than that just one!

WTH is going on in this family?!

Additional photos of missing Fayetteville girl obtained by WRAL News

WRAL News on Tuesday obtained new photos of London Deven, a Fayetteville woman missing for at least five years.

Sherry Foster, the biological mother of Deven, said she hadn’t seen or heard from her daughter since 2001 and didn’t learn of Deven’s disappearance until Thursday, April 4.

Fayetteville police said London Deven, born Moriah Elizabeth Foster according to Foster, and her adoptive brother, Blake Deven, have been missing for years. London Deven, now 27, was last seen in 2019 in Fayetteville.

While the most recent photo of Deven provided by law enforcement is from 2007, one of the photos Foster provided of Deven was sent to her from Deven’s adoptive family in 2011. It is unclear what she looks like now.

Foster said her life was already upside down, and it’s “just messed up” that her daughter is still missing.

Alot of parents who put their children in foster care want to keep in contact with their children. The mother was stating she voluntarily put them in foster care, And it was very difficult for her to do so. She wouldn't have been barred most likely from seeing him. Her not being notified until NOW?! Something is very off to me.

I really wonder what the foster family's story is. Did they tell the bio families that the kids no longer wanted to speak with them? Most biological families retain at least some rights to see/speak to their children when in foster care. But if they were legally adopted, which seems to be the case, parental rights may have been terminated. A GOOD adoptive family will keep bio family involved (if safe and desired). But who knows what happened here. Extra interesting since London would have been an adult when she was supposedly last seen. Had she moved out? Was she still supposed to be living at home?

I know. All very good points. Something is not right to me. The space of time with no information in between. There should be.
